I know that 'You not me' is not exactly what we wanted, but any DT is better than 98.5% of the crap that is out there nowadays. I don't know if any of you guys knew this but the song was co-written by Desmond Child. That probably explains the catchy chorus, not that DT can't write one, but it's what Desmond Child is known for. That could be why the chorus sounds so different than the rest of the song. Of course this is all imo (except for that Desmond Child part. I got that from the EastWest promo that "You not Me" was on). just a thought, Joe -- The Joser email_address_removed ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 04 Aug 1997 23:22:26 -0500 From: John Murphey To: Ytsejam Subject: Re: Fates Warning Texas shows Message-ID: "By the way, I did meet a couple of ytsejammers at the Houston show. I would have gone to Lafayette, but continued employment would not allow it. I understand that FW took twice the normal time during sound check to try to get things to work out. It was a losing battle. I admire them for the way they tried to combat "the elements". The Abyss sucks! You need to convert your wife. I suggest headphones and duct tape and APSOG on continuous play. Also, encoding the thing into mp3 format took about 45 minutes. The wave file was about 25 Megs! If enough people want I can try and re-encode it at a higher sampling rate, but only if you're nice. Again, this came from a friend of mine that was interning at WEA in Miami. Each month they get a promo CD with some new releases for that month. Well, he got the promo CD for ther month September and BAM there it is. He also said that he might get the FULL CD in a couple of weeks. Hopefully he'll send me a copy of that too, but I wouldn't count on it. The talking at the end is a sample ala SDV. Back atcha! Message-ID: Hmmmm, Anyone ever notice that Ytsejammers seem to be the bitchiest most whining little ungrateful maggots ever to walk the earth? Do you think Blind Melon fans bitch at the band and complain when they aren't satisfied with something? Does anyone remember when the Lie promo came out, how that's missing 90% of all the solos? Does anyone think about the possibility that the single that people have on their hands may not be the full song? Does anyone care that the shit they talk on this list is read by 900 people, including the band members themselves? Do any of the bitching parties think they could do better? If so, where are your albums? Who was the mindfucked fool who said JP kept the wah wah to satisfy the altenative crowd? That was a joke, right? Does he know that most of the shredders he may hear (JP, Vai, Symphony X, Satch, Nuno, etc...) all use wah? I sincerely hope that all of you people who are bitching up a storm after hearing a third rate copy of one song from the album cry like the little babies you are when the new album is released, because I know for a FACT that I care. Really I do. I can only ASSUME that everyone else here does too... I'm just me. I hope you sell all of your DT merchandise to someone more deserving and less annoying, and move to Amishville USA. I'd rather not deal with the assholes who stand behind you at concerts with their equally brain-stem-powered buddies, ignoring the groove and the energy, spilling their beer on my shoes, just waiting for someone to fuck up a note so they can bitch about it and act like they're remotely qualified to do so. "Yeah, bro, man... WE should be up there" "You said it!" "What time do you have to be up tomorrow to open the donut shop?" There are always going to be people on this list and everywhere else who have nothing better to do but complain because they think that it makes them unique. Bastards. In more happy news, I jsut got back form seeing Megadeth in St. Louis. A fookin' awesome show. The Misfits were, well, visually interesting. I might've liked them more if I knew more songs (hmm, guess which song got the biggest crowd reaction. Yep, "Last Caress" :). One thing I'll give them, they're in much better physical shape than the guys in 'deth (Misfits guitar player was friggin' huge and had some huge ass arms). 'Deth opened the show with "Holy Wars...," did some new songs ("She Wolf," "Use the Man," "Trust," "Almost Honest," and maybe one more), some older stuff ("Hangar 18," "In My Darkest Hour," "Peace Sells" (as their first encore), and maybe another one or two), a decent bit of stuff from Countdown... and Youthanasia, as well as "Angry Again," and "Anarchy in the UK" (as their final encore). They were REAL tight. Sound mix was good. Only disappointment was that they didn't do "Disintegrators," and I would've kinda liked to hear "Paranoid," but that's no biggie. I didn't see any jammers there. I was wearing my jam shirt. I only saw one DT shirt, but that guy was across the way some (if you were there, "hey." :). All in all, a killer show. Can't wait to see them in Phoenix Labor Day weekend (got my plane ticket today :). BTW, I totally dig YNM. Cool tune. Lookin' forward to Sept. 23 :). Dale R. It seems like all people want in the world is for their favourite bands to do the same thing again that they did before that was "awesome". I'm sick as FUCK of hearing people basically say that whatever was released would have been better if it was: Images & Words 2, Operation Mindcrime 2, Moving Pictures 2, Master of Puppets 2, and so forth. I always loved PMU, but I was very surprised when I heard that it would be the first single of IAW. I thought it was far too long and heavy for a single, I expected Another Day. Which I indeed didn't like then ;-)) >It would be a really similar situation if PMU had an instrumental section >that they cut out. Erm, there was an instrumental section that was cut out. And hey, this section even reappeared in an instrumental song later. The difference is that this ex-PMU-section fitted a dozen times better in Erotomania, so it really was an improvement. Praise the Lord that Metropolis pt. 1 isn't on THIS album, I bet they would have edited the middle section out ;-))) But wait - this would have been a killer instrumental... maybe there are indeed two sides of a story. >Don't get me wrong, I like IaW as a whole, what I'm saying is: let's wait >and listen to the CD as a whole. I guess that the big majority of people here on the list just CAN'T wait ;-) >Plus, it's their band, and their art, and they choose how to present it. If >they changed the song, they have the right to because they wrote it. There's a problem. It's not about art, it's about money. Most of the band's members have families now, and they have to make compromises to SELL their music. Face it, you won't sell millions of albums with stuff like Metropolis or Lines... It's a shame, but also a fact. But I have no problems with that as long as the songs are still strong. The problem with "You or/not me" is that they had an extremely simple song that was accessible to the masses but changed it to a more complicated one. Even that the chorus is now in a different key will be too much for the average "music" listener nowadays. If you want to be commercial, do it the right way! These guys are unbelievable writing long prog epics but often fail writing simple stuff. They just overdo it. >And I >happen to like that song, just as it is now. And I bet you would have liked the original version better ;-) Good to see DT back on the 'jam! Even if everybody hates me afterwards...
