That right, ME!!!!!!!!!! Just wondering if anyone else is going to be attending this event. E-mail me personally if you are, and maybe we can hook up at the Caravan of Dreams. By the way, this place has only a 600 capacity on a first come, first serve basis. SO, I should be able to get a real close look at Fates. Just like the Steve Vai concert in OK city, where not many people attended at this country place called "the diamond ballroom", I got a real close look at Steve and his band. Totally awesome!!! Hopefully Kevin Moore is touring with them. That would be WAY COOL! Anyone know if Moore is playing with the Fates? Tickets were only $15.50 by phone, very reasonable IMO. I don't know what you define as "prog", but as much as I've heard, Cynic sometimes falls into that category, sometimes sounding more like death/fusion. A Latvian band called Neglected Fields also sounded a lot like a prog/death crossover, last time that I saw them. Then again, those guys just worship Cynic. :-) I bet there are more. Those two genres seemingly differ from each other like night and day, but the differences are sometimes only superficial. I remember Scott and Charlie from Anthrax, but > I can't remember who else was in that band. Are they doing anything new, Scott Ian - Anthrax Charlie Benante - Anthrax Dan Lilker - Nuclear Assault (ex-Anthrax) Billy Milano - M.O.D. Billy was (as I've been told) just a guy next door who was picked because he looked brutal enough. After S.O.D. he thought, "Wow, being in a band is cool," and formed his own M.O.D. I guess it's probable that they have the same line-up. It would be blasphemous if they changed any members and not the name. It's a project after all, not a full-time band that needs growing, maturing and sometimes some replacements. Side rambling: I just came back from my 2 day trip from Moscow and all I can say is, "Wow!" The city is just so damn HUGE! I had almost forgotten what Soviet Union felt like, now I felt it again. Then again, I guess it's just Russia, just Moscow, you can't find its spirit anywhere else. One big bonus to Moscow: you just can't get lost there if you have a map of the subway. Bought lots of CD's. They cost about 2-3 bucks there (brand new items). They're "not a hundred percent legal", though... ;-) Off I wander... This station is so awesome. If you request for DT they will play it! I forget the phone number but if you call between 6 p.m. and noon they'll play anything even remotely metal. Hehe, I heard Met part 1 and UAGM together once! That was cool. I don't know if they have any singles. So you might not be able to get TLF, or Eve. Also, they don't have WDADU. One word: Cynic. Sean Malone can probably describe Cynic better then I can since he was in the band, but I'll give it a shot. They started off as a purely death metal band in the Florida death metal scene back in the late 80's early 90's. As they grew older they started to mix some jazz and proggy influences into their sound, and with the addition of super-bass/stick/musician Sean Malone they recorded Focus, one of the best albums I own. To further throw you off they use lots of guitar synth for keyboard like sounds and the vocals are a mix of death metal growling and robot/computer type voices done with a digitech vocalist. They're very progressive, and the arrangements are extremely technical and well done. They go from straight ahead death metal to a nice clean break with jangling chordy word and fretless bass all in the same song. The vocals might be a turn off for some prog fans however. My only complaint is that, at 36 minutes, it's too short, and the production is more like standard death metal (buzz saw guitars and little bass to be heard) then anything progressive. Yeah... they base their entire label on letting great prog bands put out albums with limited artistic freedoms, and make sure not to give the bands any of the money! Magna Carta is the progressive Shrapnel records. They help us out by giving us great music, at the expense of the musicians. FATES FANS!
