I had a little experience with that man, too, but it wasn't as cool as the other (still looking for the name, I'd recognize it if somebody mentioned it.). Last year, I was in the U of Minnesota Drumline, and we were making a trip out to Northwestern to watch our beloved Gophers get preyed upon by the Wildcats. The drumline bus was loud with sick songs and the like (suck on a stiff cock ......... tail with me), when somebody put in a tape of some Buddy Rich tribute show that was on TV some time back. Man, that fucker had some chops!! That had to be the fastest playing with the highest stick heights that will ever happen. The bus was quiet for the duration of that tape. That man was a god. I was looking through a local (Rochester, NY) entertainment guide (Freetime Magazine) when I noticed the following article. Images & Words Images and Words provides the Ultimate Dream Theater tribute. The band has the highest opinion of the national recording artist, Dream Theater, feeling that they have not only brought progressive rock to a higher technical standard, but have re-defined the genre by combining the traditional progressive sounds of Rush, Yes and Genesis with that of heavier artists like Queensryche, Metallical and Pantera. Images and Words, upstate New York's only Dream Theater tribute band, is dedicated to performing songs from all of Dream Theater's LP's - When Dream and Day Unite, Images & Words, Awake and A Change of Seasons - as well as unreleased songs from live and studio imports. The band consists of: Gregg Horst (vocals), Tony Vinci (guitar), Cliff LeBeau (drums), Greg Putnam (bass) and Rich DellaPietra (keyboards). Ok, so my question to everyone on this list is - has anybody ever heard of these guys before? I'm puzzled by this - a DT tribute band? -BABS ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jul 1997 14:11:07 -0700 (MST) From: email_address_removed To: email_address_removed Cc: Multiple recipients of list Subject: re: exotic scales Message-ID: If it's used in a heavy metal song, consider it exotic! >:D ~Eckie > > What's so "exotic" about a major pentatonic scale? :) > ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jul 1997 17:17:23 -0400 From: Carlos Alfaro To: email_address_removed Subject: Re: DT Tribute Band Message-ID: Barb Battaglia wrote: > > > Ok, so my question to everyone on this list is - has anybody ever heard of > these guys before? Yup, been listening to it for the last two months now. I even got a personal invitation from Fish, to meet him at the Dutch fanclub concert for a few beers. I got two free tickets, backstage passes and some pretty cool signatures... "To the Itch, love fish" :-) (I'll try to put some pix of the gig on my page) > Is it worth purchasing in your opinion? FUCK YEAH ! So far, it's the best album I've heard this year :-) Yeah that's right, I think I love it even *more* than Marillion's new CD ('This Strange Engine', also brilliant... as usual). The US version has the video of "Brother 52" on it, in Quick Time format. In the video, you can see Fish getting his latest tattoo. (his new logo) If you are thinking of checking out Fish' solo albums, either buy "Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors" (still kinda Marillion-ish) or "Sunsets on Empire". IMO, they're both brilliant. The other stuff is also good, but not nearly as great as "Vigil" and "SoE". You can get some wavs or real audios on the Wilderness of Mirrors site (Official Fish website) at http://www.livjm.ac.uk/fish/ > (P.S. - Also, does anyone know when the new Dream Theater CD will be > released September 23rd. _____ Carlos Alfaro asked : > Im curious on what marillion album i should get... *All* of them :-) But I'd start with "The Best of Both Worlds"... "BoBW" is a 2 cd compilation album, with Fish on disc 1 and Hogarth on disc 2. Let me know which songs you like best, so I can suggest what cd you could try next. Also, every EMI Marillion release, will be remastered and re-released with a bonus CD, so maybe you should wait for that. My favourite Marillion album is Brave, which is also my all-time favourite album. But do me one favour... NO "Marillion sucks" posts, until you've given them a fair chance :-) It usually takes people some time to get into their music. But when they do... :-))) _____ Lars Hellsten wrote : > Actually, maybe you should be kicked off the list for doing something > as stupid as re-posting all his shit to the jam.
