I would like to make the HTML version nicer to look at (and a little easier to read) by doing away with the

So, here is the question.  Is it necessary to maintain a text-only version

Less for me to do

We've had some interesting content in here lately.  You'd scarcely know this
was a music-type mailing list.  Then again, I don't mind this sorta
thing...religion, homosexuality, political orientation, abortion.  This is

I'm an Agnostic.  I'm not, by virtue of that doubt, the one who should
mention this, but isn't this essentially the hallmark of Western belief over
that last two millenia you mention?  I mean, Judaism, Christianity, and
Islam, in their manifold forms, have gone bonkers killing each other and
themselves for quite a long time.  Perhaps that's simply the hallmark of
monotheism.  I mean, we've had this problem, to some extent, since Aknaton
has the apple of monotheism fall on his head, which is a couple extra
millenia still.

But monotheism can certainly reach back towards other religions.  C.S.
Lewis, probably the most prominent Christian writer of our century, refers,
in "The Abolition of Man," to the single right action as "The Tao,"
indicating a congruence between the aforementioned western religions and
those of the East.  A belief which folks like Frijof Capra have bolstered
over the last thirty years or so.

So the guys in King's X have a belief in some form of Gaia/God/Allah/Tao.
That I don't agree with their position in the main (I'm a pretty ardently
pro-choice guy) does not mean that I view their work as subversive
propaganda.  On the contrary, I think of them (and the Galactic Cowboys and
Atomic Opera) as first-rate musicians, who've improved the quality of my
life via their talent and effort.

You've said that you don't want to carry this discussion out on the list.
It's probably out of place to the majority.  But you do bring up a
discussion that's worthwhile: how far can our favorite musicians diverge
from ourselves in terms of the beliefs that the espouse.  Again, I'm not a
religious guy, and there IS religious undercurrent to even the work of our
beloved Dream Theater.  So I think, rather than off the subject, it's DAMN
topical.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one.  As something of a Libertarian myself,
I've got to take issue with some of the homophobia that's been expressed

this point. The immorality of homosexuality is, for most folks, rooted in
the fact that two main features of homosexuality -- that it is sexuality for
physical gratification and that it exists outside the confines of marriage
-- lie outside most of the dominant belief systems of our era.  I don't find
either of these things abominable -- I, in fact, practice both -- and, based
on the observations of contemporary (or otherwise) heterosexual behavior,
neither does most of the population.  I'm still looking for the immorality
of it all.

And I usually only disagree with our esteemed Mr. Bahr slightly -- in
interpretation, rather than message.  But to condone homophobia as a
Libertarian makes little sense to me.  On a personal level, we can all
express whatever dissatisfaction we have with a given issue.  On a macro
level, though, the Libertarian platform is quite clear on this --
homosexuals should be granted full rights under the law to do whatever the
hell they want.  Libertarians disagree with liberal Democrats, for the most
part, on how to achieve this end, but the goal is approximately the same.

And I DON'T think most of us are expressing our opposition to homophobia in
effort to be PC.  Being "PC" leaves one persona non grata in virtually every
social situation at this point.  I'm certainly not one to mince words or
avoid pissing folks off...I'm not toeing some imaginary line -- not even one
drawn by Andre Marrou.  I'm expressing disagreement with the notion that
homosexuality is, in some way, anything more than a minority social
activity.  Like listening to Dream Theater.

I, personally, don't have anything to say about it.  I have quite a few
things, I suppose, to say about "Images and Words" and "Live at the
Marquee."  But I haven't yet HEARD "Lines in the Sand."  I guess that's why
I don't have anything more meaningful to offer than "Damn!  I can't wait!"

On the contrary....I'd rather be quite happy to find that my fan base was so
thoughtful on a variety of issues.  I'd rather have a bunch of fans that
read the paper periodically than an illiterate mass of moshers.  Balls and
chunk is nice...but a little brainpower makes it all the more interesting.

They always have those cool 10 minute tunes...even on the more commercial
later pieces.  "Driving the Last Spike" is just an awesome song....and the
whole "Domino" piece/suite/thing on "Invisible Touch" is pretty cool.  And I
laugh to this day how much they pared down "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" to
get it played on the radio.  It was worse than "Take The Time," man.
