A couple of other things, greeting to all my IRC buds... been a while since I've been on and alot has happened to me, if you even care to chat you can e-mail me privatly. I just wanted to say my piece and get out. First off, two thumbs up to D who somehow managed to keep his composure during this whole fiasco and actually taught us a lesson in human ethics and perserverance I think I probably would have gone postal a long time ago. Also, Bruce's new album.. is totally sick. It (to me) resembles Maiden of old, except I did miss the tight rythem section of McBain and Harris. Also, KUDOS to Brian Adams out in Athens, Ohio... His bands album Brain Scan is one of the best I've heard in a long time. Very heavy tight rythems, with extremely melodic undertones which really stand out in many tracks and make the album what it is... and thats a balls to the wall Progressive metal album. Definatly check it out. Well.. I'm outty.. The point, people like Mike Bahr have posted some points of view that made some sense. But what does he and others like him get in response? A big fuck you flame....why? They wouldn't have to bother posting that stuff if people didn't bother bringing up shit NOT pertaining to DT or music for that matter. When I joined almost two years ago, I remember reading posts involving music content. The Ytsejam was a place for us to gather no matter music was being discussed. What the hell happened? This isn't the YtseSlam mailing list, or the YtsePoliticalFeelings mailing list either. Why doesn't every strongly angered individual write a big assed letter to the government crying about what you feel? It will save us bandwidth, that's for sure. Look, the whole gay issue, bury it already. OK, I personally don't believe in it (and I am saying this for the record) but some individuals do decide to live this lifestyle. And if that individual is an Ytsejammer and happens to be gay, so what! We're all DT fans here, remember? That was what brought us on this mailing list in the first place. So, as Mike Bahr told me, and I agreed on, let's get this mailing list back to the basics again.....ok people? I wish all of us could make an effort to make this a music mailing list again and not a political debating arena. Leave your non-musical opinions alone, if one person believes the opposite of what you do, 10 times out of 10, you're not going to change their minds. I hope this post doesn't start people flaming away at it, I just ask that you people read what I have posted and just think about it before you act. Let's just be Ytsejammers. Actually, usually, mostly, (couple of other words that end in -ly) I post everytime I hear DT on the radio. I do it to make everyone jealous. :) But it was "DT stuff" because guess what PMU and DT came up in the post. This is from the latest FAQ that hasn't been released yet... Question: What makes a post acceptable, considered by most 'jammers? Answer: Mike Portnoy says "It must include their opinion on homosexuals in general, who shaved my head last, & what is progressive music. Everytime I hear that song, I'm reminded of how pathetic my rhythm playing is. And I must disagree w/ Mr. Bahr here since the self-titled is in fact my fave King's X CD... And Ironically, I consider 'The Big Picture', and Black Flag two of the not-that-good songs on it. That CD, for me, has it all... nice chunky guitars, harmonies, and all types of moods... and 'Dream in My Life' helped me thru a homesick day during the infamous german winter. Incidently, why is it that so many guitaristic terms come from food terminology? Meaty, Beefy, Crunch, Crisp, and the ever popular 'Bite'. I've never found anything in my tone that I could describe as 'bite' and speaking of guitar, Kiko Loureiro (Angra guitarist) is incredible. Only one thing can describe this guy's playing: fluid. That guy is so fluid, I could swear he's playing a guitar made out of water. Fluidity RULES! >I have returned! Summer boredom has inspired me to resubscribe as a partial >replacement for a life. :) As if you ever had one.;) Welcome back Ben! Yesterday, for some reason unknown to me, I started liking Shadow Gallery. I've had CiS for about 6 months, and it always sounded too cheesy. Then yesterday I suddenly started kickin' it old school, and took out all my old stuff, and decided to give these guys a try, since they have more of an 80's sound, and now I've been listening to it all day... go figure. And to those who don't like 'Brave' and want to give it away, I recommend you not to do so. I originally didn't like it either (hell, I bought Fear Factory on the same day...no a good match:) but about a month ago I was in a kind-of-not-tired-but-a-little-lazy-and-maybe-even-a-bit-depressed mood, and I felt like listening to it... and i did as they recommend: LOUD and with the lights out.... and by the end it practically brought me to tears. I haven't heard again since, but I'll keep it in hand for when I get in that mood again. BTW I *did* doze off for about 2 songs, but the overall effect was impressive. musician pick-up line of the day: "hey there, those notes are looking pretty sharp" cool web-site of the day: the 'Bert is Evil' page http://fractalcow.com/bert that page hilarious. lost in germany (or at least used to be), Ernie ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 04 Jul 1997 23:31:12 -0700 From: Joe Wright To: "email_address_removed" Subject: infinity and BEYOND!!! One of glam's early contributors, David Bowie, >is proof that it indeed does have talent.. you just need to seperate >the crap from the good stuff in glam.. I just wanted to add that Alice Cooper was doing stuff that Bowie was doing two years before. I love Bowie's music and he's one of my all time favorite artists, but he tends to get credit for a lot of things he didn't create. I'm not flaming you, being a big Cooper fan and seeing the total lack of credit he gets for what he contributed to metal/glam/theatrical rock, I like to give him credit for the things he's done. Scott It's really interesting to see that this actually "mixes" in with today's material. I agree that Cooper started the whole thing (Bowie was later). Cooper was a very smart man, and he knew how to market himself. He sold the image and the music that went along with it. The truth of the matter is, that he knew that $$ would follow if he continued doing something considered abnormal and downright evil. This follows into today.. Marilyn Manson. I HATE the music, I HATE the image, but, you have to give this guy some credit, he's probably as normal as you and me. He was probably a normal guy who liked Alice Cooper and realized what Alice had done..sold his image. A true marketing genius. Sell the image, attract the image and the $$ will follow. Didn't Alice discover him anyway? out I am not saying that I like Marilyn Manson, but I will give him some credit where it is due. I've a hell of a lot of respect for good drummers, who have that independence in all four limbs. *********** First of all...I have complete independce in 5 limbs. Second of all...once you get the hang of the drumming independence, it's not bad at all. Once you've reached that point, piano is much harder (as i've discovered in my laughable attempts to play classical piano) mainly because of the aim factor. Hitting a large circular surface with a stick is cake compared to the dexterity and finger breaking stretches required aLONG with the rhythmical independence demanded by some difficult piano works. The only consolation is that you have to do very little with your feet. :) But, there are some drum patterns that can be a major bitch. ------------------------------ End of YTSEJAM Digest 2698 **************************
