I think that this is on all the CDs. My friend just got this as well and told me about the same problem. Guys: Get the Stratovarius album titled "episode." It kicks major buns. The guitarist reminds me a lot of Petrucci and sometimes Steve Morse (ala "tumeni notes") on the 8th track of the album. I'm reluctant to buy prog that I haven't heard because more than once I have been disappointed. My friend had this up at school and he let me borrow it. This is now one of my favorite prog bands. I haven't gotten "visions" yet, but plan to. I have to buy some William Ackerman and Bela Fleck CDs first. :) Brandon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Jun 1997 14:00:12 -0400 (EDT) From: Partha Mukhopadhyay To: Multiple recipients of list Subject: itcotck Message-ID: is moonchild SUPPOSED to be so dynamically soft (relative to other tracks) pain in the ass to have to get up to adjust the volumn, even though it means a wonderful 12 minute interlude, and a nice loud return to anti-serenity as the title song kicks in...... and anyone poinitng me to a good king crimson page would be thanked profusely......... partha (lizard is my fave KC album, if anyone gives a darn, or wants to point out why i should like any other album better......) ------------------------------ Date: 19 Jun 97 12:35:21 EDT From: PANDAMAN To: "INTERNET:email_address_removed" Subject: Re: YTSEJAM digest 2652 Message-ID: >If DT is in the studio right now, don't you think that a late July/early >August release date is a bit early? Not that I trust everything they say, but my local record shoppe (Tokyo, Japan) has the next Dream Theater album release date at Aug. 10. A bit hasty, perhaps, and it's quite predictable they'll 'postpone' the release date. However, if the news about Fates Warning playing some finished studio DT songs before they went on, maybe the August release isn't as impossible as it seems? Unfortunately, the album doesn't live up to them, at least not yet. I think the lyrics and some of the music on this CD are great, but dammit, I can't *hear* anything. The mix just seems very...mundane. I wish there was more crunch to it. Rating: Balls, but no Chunk. * Drain STH - Horror Wrestling I saw these ladies at OzzFest, and I was suitably impressed. Enough to go looking for the CD, in fact. This is good, hard, crunchy metal. Almost everyone I have played this for can't believe it's an all-woman band. IMO, they most closely resemble Alice In Chains (at least musically. They're *much* more attractive. :)) Rating: No Balls (anatomically), MUCHO Chunk. * Bruce Dickinson - Accident Of Birth Holy Shit, I think I have an early favorite for my album of the year! I hated Tattooed Millionaire, I didn't care much for Balls To Picasso, and I didn't even get Skunkworks, so needless to say, I was skeptical at best toward this album. I don't know if it was solely the addition of Adrian Smith, but this album SMOKES. Other than some oddball/cheesy lyrics, I have found nothing about this album that I don't like. As an aside: I noticed that this album features Bruce on vocals, Adrian Smith of guitar, and cover art by Derek Riggs - this band is more Maiden than Maiden is now. :) Rating: BALLS AND CHUNK - THIS IS WHERE IT'S AT!! ----- ____http://www.ici.net/cust_pages/psull/psull.html IRC: DDictator Now Playing: Nothing - Work sucks. :) _________________________________________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Jun 1997 21:47:11 +0200 (MET DST) From: "J.P.Cornelissen" To: email_address_removed Subject: Who taped Petrucci's clinic '97?? Well, I'll let someone else address U2 & the Beatles. As I recall, though, they do cite Kansas as one of their influences. And if you go beyond the popular radio-friendly hits that Kansas put out and dig deeper, you'll find some very progressive stuff. You might want to check out Closet Chronicles, or Portrait. Or don't :) Chip: > Not to mention Terry Bozzio - even that Missing > Persons album has those kind of fills all over it. Listen to > Metallica's "Wherever I May Roam" for a bit more of this. ..and "Harvester of Sorrow" perhaps as well? I recall a tune off AJFA following Locrian mode a bit. Which reminds me, for those with a background in sight-singing and/or eartraining, it's important to realize just how easy it is to sing Locrian mode. Most people shy away from the thought of this due to the disorienting intervallic (sp?) relationships among the notes in the mode. I was once called upon in class to sing this mode, and managed to dazzle the rest of the class with a simple trick to sing it (using solfege (sp?) syllables of course) quickly and in tune. Fun fun.
