DT is one of the very few bands that let their fans get close enough to them to have a more "personal" view of the band. That's why DT let's Mike Bahr put out certain boots, because they're looking for all the mature feedback regarding live performances that no one was actually supposed have recorded, and they know you won't let them down. 9. Obviously the people who like to rag on JLB all have a much better stage presence, which can be seen on all of their latest videos, and heard on all of their latest BOOTLEG CD's in which they had no idea were ever going to be recorded. I'm looking forward to ordering copies of everything you have all performed on, so please do post a list of all your professional recordings that you've made throughout your illustrious singing career, and let us know how we can all purchase copies. 8. The people who enjoy ragging on JLB do so, because even though they can sing and perform so much better than JLB, they are upset about not being picked to front DT at their audition. DT obviously picked JLB because you all sing and perform so well that you intimidated the band, so they chose JLB instead of you. 7. Everyone that rags on JLB goes to the shows, and even though they thought the show was great, when they finally meet JLB backstage they actually have the balls to walk right up to him and tell him what they think....right there where JLB can actually defend himself! They don't just hide behind an email address and a mailing list, they really go for it! This justifies them being able to post JLB insults. 6. Some of them are not actually DT fans, they are undercover agents who are trying to convince Ytsejam newbies that DT actually sucks. They work for the alternative music industry, and they're deathly afraid that people will find out that JLB and DT are all actually very talented, and the alternative CD sales will go down as more prog bands start selling...then they'll be stuck with a warehouse full of non-prog CD's they can't sell. 5. They're hoping that JLB will read the jam and see their posts, and feel really bad, not want to do shows, and eventually quit the band...that way they can try auditioning for DT again and show the world just how much better than JLB they really are! 4. Some of them really like JLB, but what the hell, we're on a roll... 3. They realize there are a lot more positive things they could be talking about regarding DT, but all that stuff gets used up on NDTC, and they know posting negative about Mike Portnoy might actually get a response and make them look stupid at the next clinic. So, what's left to fill the negative post quota except for JLB? 2. People might get upset and start flaming them if they pick on anyone else (like Fates Warning or something), and since picking on JLB has such a low rebuttle post ratio, gee I guess it's safe. And the #1 reason why people rag on JLB: 1. There was a lack of idiotic posts which tend to lower DT's opinion of the mentality of the Ytsejam, so they figure one sure fire way to convince the band that we're a bunch of idiots is to start picking on the band members. I'm sure they're proud to know that we're their fans now. OK, well I'm sure that this post will stir up some feedback, but what I would really like to see is James start posting in here himself. Mike P., if you're reading this (which I know you do), talk JLB into starting an email account and getting on the list (if he isnt already). I would love to see how certain threads evolve then....maybe you guys could give some of these professionals a chance to take JLB's place on stage for a couple nights and impress us with their calm, cool, and extraordinary vocal talents. I'm sure they'll have the audience wrapped around their finger and screaming for more. Until then, I'm removing Ytsejam subscription instructions from my web site. Not as a statement to the list, but to prevent any would-be jammers from hearing the negative slander about their favorite band members. Yes folks, some people sign up because they love JLB. Think I'm over-reacting? Well maybe you're right, but that's how strongly I feel about Dream Theater...as a whole. buster http://users1.ee.net/buster http://www.dhpc.com/ryche/ reminds me of beavis & butthead: "uhhh...theze guyz rock, uhuhh, but...uhh..they kinda like, suck..huhuhhh...huhuh" ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 1 Jun 1997 21:53:46 +0200 From: "Simon Mitternacht" To: "Ytsejam" Subject: Glen Ballard Message-ID: <9706011951.AA20844@nomina.lu.se> >I hate to pick on just one thread (as usual) but no, no, no! ;) On the >inside cover of Alanis Morissette's liner notes, it reads, and I quote, >"All music composed by Alanis Morissette and Glen Ballard. Watching the 'Worlds Fastest Man' competition on CBS today, a AT&T commercial comes on. Its the one that shows a bunch of people including pat riley and Christopher Reeve talking with wheelchair kids on a tv screen. Anyways, at the end, I pick up the song they were playing in the background and the music and melody is the same as SAVATAGE's 'Heal my Soul.' The lyrics were different though. layba day Conrad ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 01 Jun 1997 18:39:13 From: Irene Raceu To: email_address_removed Subject: Digest 2601 Message-ID: In digest 2601 WhiteWolf wrote: >>And what's a Ytsejammer doing listening to Alanis anyway?? She can't sing, >>has no stage presence & no real talent. I never read in any of the Ytsejam rules that a Ytsejammer isn't allowed to listen to Alanis. I personally like Alanis, and I feel that she does have a lot of talent. If you don't like her, that's fine. But that doesn't mean that no one else shouldn't either. I feel she does have a very good voice. Don't just base it on the songs you heard on the radio, there are others on the cd where she sounds even better. And about the lyrics... music is a form of art, and just like any other art it's always been based on one's feelings and emotions. So she wrote about what she felt. There's nothing wrong with that. Again, just because you like one type of music (prog for example) doesn't mean that you can't like anything else. And if you don't like her stuff, or whatever else, that's cool, you're entitled to your opinion. But don't rip on others for what they like. You should all be warned, however, that a great deal of this movie is practically a word-for-word remake of Spinal Tap (rap instead of metal). If that won't annoy you, it's definitely worth seeing. Incidentally, it was made by Rusty Cundieff. The only other movie of his I've seen was Tales From the Hood, which was utterly without merit. Terrible. Revolting.
