'snip'... Rip, an old "cliche" for you: "two wrongs dont make a right" What do I mean by that? Well, personally I dont like a certain singer you mentioned, BUT you never have, and you will NEVER hear me putting him down in ANY WAY on this list. AND, by the same token, I ESCPECIALLY don't see any reason why ragging on another certain singer as a defense is going to help anything. It pisses me off to see anyone ragging on EITHER of them in the Jam. Both vocalists have done something special for us, and how are some people repaying them? By slinging shit about them in a place where they are defenseless. >Rip Wrote: >i still DO question james's position in the current band, and as previously >stated, i thought he rocked ass on I&W. i dont think he's bad or degraded, >just not complimenting the current DT optimally. I respect your opinion, and I know you have a right to say it. I guess I just wish people would talk about the more positive feelings they have about the band members here. I totally agree with you about the hypocracy thing happening, and it doesnt bother me when people talk shit about other bands on this list, but it does bother me when people say negative things about anyone in DT (past or present members). Everyone in that band has brought us something special, and some of them read this list. I think it's a really shitty way to thank them by criticizing their work, here among their fans. The music industry does enough DT dissing by their lack of support for bands like them. I'd like to be able to see the Jam as a place where we give them each credit. buster http://users1.ee.net/buster http://www.dhpc.com/ryche/ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 May 1997 01:37:22 -0400 (EDT) From: Eric John Marlett To: email_address_removed Subject: Well..... As I'm sure you're well aware, DT historically has little tolerance for singers they don't like(Chris Collins and Charlie Dominici ring any bells?) They discarded them both and then spent years looking for KJLB. He's been with them for at least six years now, and doesn't seem to be going anywhere. From my point of view, the band certainly doesn't seem to be exhibiting this frustration that you've pinned on them. Now if it's directed at the record label, that's a whole other matter...... ;) Just a comment. Message-ID: Hi Jammers, I was just wondering if there were any other TESLA fans on this list besides myself. I always felt they were a band that was never as greatly appreciated as they should have been (IMO). I know they have been split up for about a year now, so chances are we will not hear anymore from the boys...it's too bad, a talented band just being lost in the shuffle of today's music...... Anyway, I was listening to SONG & EMOTION and came up with a thought.... Our dear DT does such an excellent job of doing cover songs, that I think this song would be a candidate for them to do. I don't know, the song has a lot of variety, and with two guitar players in TESLA, that would mean JP and Derick could play an excellent jam together...and (IMO) Jeff Keith does a few great vocal ranges in his singing, so KJLB would feel right at home..... Well, it is just a thought. Let me know if any of you like TESLA too! Actually, if you actually had a good talk (IRC Chat) with Rip I think you would be more able to understand his point of view. Rip's idea is that the band is heading in a new direction that it might be difficult for James to keep up. I can understand that. They seem to be (from the reviews I've been hearing)getting more aggresive and heavier. Although I really like James singing ability, it would just seem inappropriate for the guy to be singing like Barney (Napalm Death). I douby it's going that far (yet) but James' style is more operatic than shitgrowl. I still don't think it's fair for anyone to judge James' singing ability prior to the releaste of the new album, rhen we'll see how it will all work out. Frankly, as long as James keeps slippin' his butt into those tight leather pants I don't care how long he stays in the band. That's what it's all about ain't it? :) Nuff said... ---KorgX3 ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 May 97 09:12:37 PDT From: "DJW" To: email_address_removed Subject: 1st Post Message-ID: Hi, I've been reading the Jams for months now but this is my first post - I got into DT after hearing them do a couple of tracks live in a studio on BBC Radio1 in the UK. They played 6:00 and Caught in a Web (I think) - they blew my head off completely and the next day I bought Awake which still remains my fave. There's a definite feel throughout the whole of the album and there are certain sections that I just fall into and never want to leave. My favourite DT track though is ACOS - the lyrics are very deep and mean a lot to me - I have 2 young kids and I'm of the age where Grandparents are just starting to pass away - it is a very uplifting song! It also has some killer riffs! Thats it really... Stay cool! Dave (A UKJammer). Well, I'm not from Binghamton, but I've been called both :), so allow me: I go to a concert mainly to hear the music. At the Strand in '96, I was too busy _listening_ to the music to even notice whether James was on stage or singing from the wings :) For me, the live experience is simply the musicians without the benefit of Take 2. Sure, it's fun to have a wild stage thing happenin'; but for me, there's more than enough happening musically. If I want theatre, I go to the theatre. (That is, unless it's the Tubes!) Their first album "Energetic Disassembly" is absolutely kick ass. It came out in '81 and I still think it's ahead of its time. For a long time it was only available on cassette (Zombie Records) but there is now a CD available as a German import. The original guitar player was a guy named Billy White, who went on to play in Dokken, and now plays in a trio in Austin TX. The original singer for Watchtower was Jason McMaster, later of Dangerous Toys. The second album "Control and Resistance" was ok, but only had the drummer and bass player from the original lineup. If you're into the heavier side of the prog scene, I think you would get quite a kick out of the 1st album. The second is more along the lines of Nasty Savage's "Indulgence". I have "Energetic Disassembly" on CD - anyone interested in a copy email me privately. I hadn't heard them (I don't listen to radio a lot) at all until about a week ago when they played at Maple Leaf Gardens here in the Big Smoke, and some of the local newscasts showed a couple of clips of the show. Hmm... would be nice if Queensryche or Rush (and they're from here for god's sake) shows were considered newsworthy. :( I also caught a bit of some special (I guess it must have been an Intimite & Interactive or something...) they did on Much Music the next day I think, which was really the first time I'd heard them at any length. I don't see what the big deal is. I don't particularly like them, but they're a hell of a lot better than a lot of other bands that are popular these days. So I don't know why everyone's ragging on them. Or is it something to do with the fact she's a female in a rock band? A few months ago, the "cool" thing for jammers to do was to rag on Alanis Morissette. Now it's Gwen Stefani. Is this a trend or something? Personally I like any band that has an attractive female singer... ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 May 1997 10:03:28 -0500 From: "Robin L.
