Thanks a lot! Two great story albums are: Ayreon _The Final Experiment_ which is about earth's demise in the year 2064AD amd computer program used to transmit the visions on the 6th century seer, Ayreon, to warn the people of its desctruction. (I may have the story a little off because I don't have the liner notes on hand.) If you like Savatage's DWD, then you will prob. like this one. The production on this CD is on a grand scale, several vocalists, background female vocals, guest musicians (brass, flutes) on some songs, excellent use of moogs (distorted and melodic), some organ, some slower songs. A lot of the songs have a neo-classical melody to it while avoiding that rehashed 80' neo-metal sound. Saga _Generation 13_ I don't know offhand what the story is about, but this one is more prog rock but with some crunching metal chords. Several songs has an philharmonic orchestra playing on it, and it is great to hear bone-crunching guitar with a orchestra following it. I just got this disc, and so far it may be just a notch above Ayreon. More comments later. I can't believe that I avoided this one for so long. The previous Saga albums sound nothing like the new, and I expected the new one not to sound all that great. Sweep the floors? He needs a housekeeper? What? To this day, I'm confused.... You know I *had* to jump in here. :) Basically, what Neil means, is that there have to be classes in society. "We need someone to talk to" means we need that primary-level interaction with friends and loved ones. "And someone to sweep the floors" means that there have to be secondary relationships as well, with the people that work for/around us. Taken a slightly different way, we need to feel equal with some people, and above others. At least that's my interpretation. I listened to it in the car on the way back from doing some research for a paper at the ASU library, just listening to 30 sec. to 1 min. of each track, and I must I really didnt like it at all, except for a few songs. But when I got home I turned it on while I was reading the new Metal Edge, and I must say I like it. its very textural, moody sounding stuff. I really dont think its AT ALL very heavy and up-front sounding like people have written. Is probably the most quiet and least abrassive/aggressive mix Ive ever heard. It is totally the kind of music that I like in the background, but I couldnt get into it if I was just listening to the music and doing nothing. And the strange part is that I cant figure out wether thats a good thing or a bad thing.. most of my favorite CDs like Images and Words, Mahavishnu's "Birds of Fire," and Moving Pictures (oops.. top 3 list.. BAD!!! FORBIDDEN!!! EVIL!!!) I can listen to either way and totally enjoy them, and the same goes for most of the other stuff I listen to, which is mostly prog, fusion/jazz, and metal. Anyways.. I was just wondering if anyone else shared my view of HITNF. It'd make great elavator music.. or maybe in a grocery store.. (even though I wished he had posted that update on Lifting Shadows so that I knew. That page hasn't been updated since January!) I have the new QR album. Not bad. It didn't excite me on first listen. Then again, QR doesn't excite me that much anymore. This album came out of left field. I wasn't expecting a new album. A couple of comments: Who is singing on All I Want? It doesn't sound like GT. (I can see the reference to Saigon Kick in that song.) Also, isn't Get a life one of the worst songs? That chorus is like fingernails on a chalkboard! Some people fly and You sound pretty cool. I checked out Brian Wherry's page. I bet he listens to a lot of DT. :^) He's a little raw, but he has obvious talent. It is a wonder that he isn't in a band. I will not post his URL because a million people before me already have. As far as the people who want the "Fix" shows, I can understand why people want to hear it. Most of us haven't heard any new music from the band since they released "Awake". That was released in 1994. It has been three years. I think this would all be solved if the band would throw us some bones. A song or two. It isn't like they are going to miss it. I will respect their wishes, but I have no idea when they are going to release a new album and I am waiting with bated breath for new material. One song would satisfy me. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---- Jason Birzer "One likes to believe in the freedom of music "The Longshot" but glittering prizes and endless compromises shatter the illusion of integrity." email_address_removed Rush - The Spirit Of Radio ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Mar 1997 00:09:03 -0800 (PST) From: Mamalookabubuday To: email_address_removed Subject: VH needs a new singer?
