It was a great show and he really kicked ass. I didn't know his music before but he blew me. Beside him there was Al Pitrelli on guitar. Great lineup. If you ever have the chance to see them live get there !!! After the show there was an open backstage and I've got my shirt signed "T M get funked up" and Al signed my jeans shirt. When most of the crowd was gone the band was hanging around in the club. So I got the chance to ask some questions. Al said that there will be a new Savatage CD soon. They are waiting for him to return. He was looking a little funny because he was wearing a womens hairband (ha ha). But he's a very nice, cool guy. Sometimes later he asked if there is more beer on the tour bus and as it turns out that there was none anymore we had the honour to invite him for a vodka (and my friend Andreas had the honour to pay for it (hi hi)). I also had the chance to talk to the tour manager and it turned out that he is also involved in ... .. DREAM THEATER. So I asked him about the german tour and he said that it was only planned to do gigs in Italy and the Netherlands but the band said that they have to tour Germany as well. Thanx !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He also said what the problem with germany is. You wouldn't believe it: TAXES. Foreign musicians have to pay very high taxes to play in germany. So that is the reason why they only play a few gigs in germany. For you germans out there: Fuck Waigel !!! (that is the minister of finances) I also asked him about some of the older rumours and here are some definite answers 1. Derek is not gay. But who cares ... 2. _No_ double CD (we all knew that; DT is not selling as much as Michael Jackson) 3. still looking for a producer for the new album 4. they did not change the record company 5. there might be _new_ instructional videos of John Myung and Mike Portnoy because of changing the endorser. All the guys as T.M., Al and the tour manager were very friendly and very natural. No star atitudes. Just normal guys who can play their instruments a little better than the rest of the world. Caring about their fans. Great ! Additional story: The JP instructional video in europe So it took them nearly a year to convert the video to the PAL format and when the video was finally in the stores I couldn't wait any day longer to get it. I thought it would be one of the happiest days in my life when I throw in the tape that was packaged as JP instructional video and was also labeld as the JP instructional video. When I turned on the video it became clear that it was _not_ the "John Petrucci" video but the "John Patitucci" instructional bass video. Arrrrrrrrggggghhhhhhhhh!!!! It turned out that there were 500 of these wrong labeled or wrong copied videos in whole europe. So it took me another two weeks to get the right video. But it was worth waiting for it. John Petrucci is a real guitar god ! But we all know that. So that's about it. It already took me too long to write this. Have to get back to "lurking mode". Still hoping for a DT gig in the north of germany. But it seems that Bremen is also canceled like the Hamburg gig. Sh.t! Think of it this way: Dream Theater has more of a cult following than a popular following, so the record company realizes that the fans (a lot of them) are recording bootlegs and have the material already, and if they release an album, then they fear it won't sell as much. If boots weren't recorded, then most people (except those fortunate to see DT live) wouldn't have an idea of what the new songs sounded like (fans also wouldn't complain about changes to songs such as ACoS). This might prompt the record company to allow them to put out a new album soon since there will be more anticipation, and when the album does come out, it will sell extremely quickly, and the record company will realize that DT does have a good following, so they won't be pricks about letting them get a new album out. That's my theory. ___ ___ (0 0)----------------------------------------------------------------(0 0) ||| Preston Scheuneman email: email_address_removed ||| ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Mar 1997 11:30:32 -0600 From: Randall Braun To: "'Ytsejam'" Subject: Replies: Enchant & Mastermind -NDTC Message-ID: ..Recieved Enchant's 'A Blueprint of the World'. ..I really like, they might not be the most talented band out there, but they have a good sound. You have failed to acknowlege the validity of the other arguments on this issue. You may not like what I'm saying, but to many people it makes sense and my opinions are motivated only by my wishes for the band's music to get out there to their fans and new listeners. There are still very real holes in your argument, but I respect your overall point and pretty much agree with you now. I will say this, however...YES, I would prefer if the band was not doing shows right now. I'd rather they were in the studio. ALSO, I strongly agree with the guy that said how important boots have been to keeping the buzz going about DT. There are too few of us on the 'jam to be able to consider ourselves an adequate "buzz" about the band. The guys are just not getting enough promotion right now, and I fear the worst if they don't get an album out soon. Label execs are very near-sighted people, as we all know. They don't care about music, they only care about profits. In the eyes of most labels, the guaranteed sale of even 100,000 units is nothing to get excited about. I like the new thread about crazy happenings at DT shows...I'll try to think of some once I get checked out for this darned mental disorder I'm supposed to have. However, no matter what your opinion about that, the FACTS are these: 1 - The band asked people not to tape/distribute the shows. 2 - People are openly trading these boots on the Jam. 3 - The band knows what goes on here on the Jam. Yes, I AM impatient, because frankly, I So, Mike, when your favorite shirt gets a small hole in it, do you say "Oh well, the damage has been done, might as well rip the sucker in half"? When a rock hits your windshield do you follow it up with a sledge hammer? When the milk bounces off your cereal and splashes on the table, do you go ahead and empty the whole container on the floor? When you erase the wrong file on your computer, do you reformat the hard drive? When you miss your exit, do you keep going until you run out of gas? I sincerely hope the answer to all those questions is a resounding NO. The point here is that even though the songs were recorded, the band doesn't want them circulating. We should LIMIT THE DAMAGE and not make their existance public. I'd love to hear them. I considered driving 5 hours (one way) to one of Portnoy's Clinic just to hear unfinished versions of the new material. The reason you haven't gotten a reply is because the request came before the concerts occurred, back in Dismember--I mean December. It's not going to be easy to find that Jam. They didn't say "Please don't make tapes of the show, but if someone else has it on tape or cd, that's cool." The premise is that they DON'T want their new music out on ANY recording until it's out on their official release!
