He's missing out on a lot of great vocalists like James Labrie and Geoff Tate. I don't understand how he can like Geddy Lee's voice though. I personally think it's one of the most annoying singing voices I've ever heard. Don't get me wrong, Rush's music is awesome, but no matter how much I listen to it, Geddy's voice still irks me. The first time I heard him, I thought he'd maybe sucked helium right before singing. But again, that's just my opinion. That switch you pulled with your friend was clever, though. Very sneaky. }:) Laterz Much love, Mari There are no happy endings because nothing ends. -The Last Unicorn You're meaner than a dog shitting tacks -Burgess Meredith Wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which one gets filled first. -Burgess Meredith ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Mar 1997 15:47:47 -0500 From: "Lauren Glenn" To: Subject: Re: Ryan, new DT Message-ID: > From: Eric Rodger > To: Multiple recipients of list > Subject: Re: Ryan, new DT > Date: Tuesday, March 18, 1997 11:54 > > This is bullshit. I'm glad to see the band's position is so important to everyone. "The hell with what they want. If I want to illegally distribute some illegally made recordings, who are they to tell me know". That's the most ridiculous justification I have ever heard for bootlegging. "They should have known we'd do it anyway" is no defense. You may as well say "The cop should have known I'd kill that guy for no reason, therefore they can't convict me of anything" > Every single show that DT ever plays, should be taped - > and I think the band should lighten up about it, and start recognizing > their fans' needs. I see. So the fans needs should be more important to the band than their own? All the "old timers" respond with "Read the FAQ" or "We've already been over that" whenever old old thread resurfaces from a new user. I'm wondering why we always quash those threads. I would think that with good turnover every few months, there'd be new subscribers with new views on old topics. Perhaps we should *encourage* discussion of old topics during times like this. I have a feeling we might be surprised at the new insights that might be gained. The outro solo has some sections where the only thing that's worse than the notes they have are the ones that are missing; as in, like, entire measures. I'm not sure exactly which section you're referring to, but I think it must be that funky clean guitar thing at the beginning of the first verse, cause I know they wrote it as eighth notes and it's just NOT. I can't really help you other than to say that you're not crazy, but if you do a better transcription I'd be interested in it. -Clark ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Mar 1997 16:34:54 -0500 From: Eric Rodger To: email_address_removed Subject: Re: Should've known better? Pat, All I'm saying is that I think it is an absolute waste for a DT show not to be taped, because they mix things up so much live, so you never know when they're going to throw "In the Flesh" into the set. And when they do, I want to hear it. I also want to hear the new material, NOW, because like some people said, it will probably change by the time it hits the vinyl, just like ACOS did. Now aren't you glad that DoE and the demos/voc.audition tapes were recorded? Think of what we would be missing out on if we only had the official ACOS release. I'm not advocating a Mike Bahr bootleg out of this thing, and I certainly don't want anybody but the band making money off their new tunes, but I definitely want these songs now, and I will still buy the album when it comes out. Where did all the policemen come from? I left the list for a year, and came back to this crybaby crap. Just think of what we all could discuss if we all had those songs. KAI ps. I really think DT anticipated the shows to be taped, and have really given up on caring about bootlegging. They know that we will all buy the album anyway (probably several copies). ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Mar 1997 15:02:31 -0600 From: Randall Braun To: "'Ytsejam'" Cc: "'email_address_removed'" Subject: Ken Golden URL Message-ID: A Ken Golden URL: (submenu of The Progressive Rock Web Site URL) http://www.ari.net/prog/Discographies/Labels/lasers.edge I do not have any other info, as I've not dealt with them before...[yet] -Randall email: email_address_removed *************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Mar 1997 16:34:58 -0400 (EDT) From: CLARK ABEL To: email_address_removed Subject: Re: Take the Time question, Neil Elliott (sp?) In fact, besides a few Megadeth books I have, (I just can't seem to stop talking about them lately) in which the tab sometimes doesn't even match the standard notation, they're some of the worst. The rythms are just awful, and I get the impression that if the transcribers couldn't figure a measure out, they just left it out of the song. Actually, to be fair, most of the problems are with TTT, and I haven't even looked at a few of the songs, but there are far more accurate books available for other bands. -Clark ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Mar 1997 15:36:26 -0600 From: "Rip, Cow Virtuoso" To: Heavy Metal Computer Nerds Subject: /me need hammer, mmm. Except Ptacek, he just makes me laugh... Am I the only one who loves the fact that the rush-mgr on TNMS has those administrivia postings so we can get the real info up front? I hope not. That list seldom gets interesting. Someone mentioned the upcoming "Shining" mini-series. Could someone please privately e-mail me the dates and times, if you know them? Much appreciated. In the vein of new age stuff: anyone ever try October Project? Soft and melodic, with a female vocalist and five piece band (guitar, two keys, bass, drums, percussion). Their first album is really good but I can't yet afford the second. Too many other albums this spring. Speaking of which: can anyone refer me to web page with current Cheap Trick album info? Again, much appreciated! I apologize to all who I promised Nuno concert reviews. In my inestimable stupidity, I got too drunk to remember most of the show. I will be kicking myself for months to come. In a related note, could someone send me a setlist of the show that went? Yes, I was that drunk... Also, someone mentioned a love of the band Fear. I need to replace my old tapes with CDs. Can you point me to a source, my local CD store can't help. And finally (for today at least), someone said in that Megadeth debate that no one with a brain buys albums just to hear guitars, they buy for the music. Anyone who owns Satch's first three albums (including the EP) knows all those albums were about were guitar. And I own 'em, and worship them at my sacrificial altar daily. Funny, all those sacrifices, and I still don't play any better... Andrew ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Mar 1997 16:48:30 -0500 (EST) From: email_address_removed To: email_address_removed Subject: Fix Shows Message-ID: Hey Guys! First off, thanks SO much to Matt Teiper for taping me the IFC X-mas CD, etc. You rule! DT's cover of Red Hill Mining Town is so good, I fooled one of my friends into thinking James was actually Bono! About the Fix for '96 controversy, IMHO, if the boots are out there, fire up those CD burners and lets have 'em. Bear with me here, for those of you who disagree... The new album will most likely NOT be released in '97. Let's face it, they'd practically have to start recording tomorrow for that to happen. Whenever a band drops off the scene for a couple years and there is no buzz going around about them, they lose a lot of their marketability. Personally, I don't are if the guys become as big as Metallica, but I want to make damned sure they get SOME support from their label. The circulation of the new material will give us something to discuss on the jam, to play to our friends, to play for people who haven't heard DT or simpy TO TALK ABOUT. Not one jammer would forsake the purchase of the new album for the purchase of a boot. If anything, the circulation of the new material will create excitement for the new release just like there was for ACOS. Finally, I think its a little hippocritical for us to suddenly decide NOT to use already-existing bootlegs of the shows when many jammers couldn't even make it to the east coast. All along we have known that Jon Petrucci HATES bootlegs, as does KJLB, but we've still bought/produced CD boots against their wishes. Ultimately, it just makes us bigger fans. Imagine how monotonous the 'jam would already be if we had no Mike Bahr releases to talk about? Now imagine if there were no boots of any kind. I love the studio albums, but I, like many of us, have listened to each one probably thousands of times now. Well, enough out of me. DT rules. Its got a cool CD EXTRA interactive multimedia thing that runs when you put the CD in a computer.. I'm sure it'll get boring pretty quick, but it was quite amusing for a few hours this morning : ) Maybe DT should do something like this on their new album.. the only bands that I know of that have used this are Aerosmith and Harry Conick Jr, and both of the multimedia thisng are pretty cool. I heard Megadeth (you know, that band that Dt could blow of the stage... j/k) is doing something similar for their new album.
