"Think. What else have you learned since then?" "I don't know. That my sister's in the Yamato militia?" "Yes, and what else?" "I don't know, dammit!" "Who else has learned this since then?" Well, there were several people who had discovered this, but he guessed the answer that Sleeper wanted to hear. "Daniel?" Sleeper smiled. "But I don't get it! What does that have to do with anything?" "Why did he just discover this now? Why had he not learned this some time ago?" "Because Jen had been keeping it from him." "Yes. What did she keep telling him and you when she went out driving?" "That she was doing it because she liked to go out on a drive." "So what does this represent?" "I don't know, deceit? Deception?" Sleeper smiled again. "Are you saying that Deceit is my second 'dance?'" "You see? You are the only one who can successfully complete this mission. And you do have the tools to do it. You just need to have more confidence in yourself." Metropolis was about to ask how, but he already knew how Sleeper would answer, so he just shrugged and went back to his business. --- The cops who had arrested Jennifer had her fingerprinted, her mug shot taken, and then locked her in her cell. She sat on the bed, crying. Dan looked at her, feeling betrayed by her, wishing he could help her, but knowing deep down inside that there was nothing he could do. Many of the other cops gave their condolences, but their words of sympathy did nothing to console him. Dan went over to the cell where his wife was imprisioned and stood, staring at the woman who, before tonight, was his wife to be. "Well, I guess we won't be getting married this Friday," she tried to joke, but her heart wasn't in it. "Jen, why? What made you want to join a group such as this? Don't you know what they do to people?" "Yes, I know. But, after the last election, I was kind of downhearted. Governor Prudgeon had done so many things wrong in his administration, taken so much from us without giving back, betrayed the people, and yet he managed to get back into office. Then I remembered a conversation I had several months ago. A friend told me about these scandals where all political races were were a competition to find out who could out-cheat the other, but that there was a group who could stop it, so I decided to check it out. By the time I found out it was the Yamato, it was too late. I was in too deep. They had stirred me up so badly that I had no choice but to join. And the rest is history." "Well, why didn't you tell me?" "Well, when I first started investigating, we weren't seeing each other too seriously yet, so I didn't feel any need to. But, again, by the time I discovered that I was dealing with the Yamato, it was too late. If I had told you, you would have certainly had me arrested." "Look, I'm sorry. I'll do what I can to get you-" Then, an explosion came through the wall. Jen was thrown to the ground, but not seriously hurt. Through the newly created hole, they could see the altercation that was going on outside. "Come on! Let's get out of here!" "I can't do that!" "Come on, Dan. No matter what's happened, I still love you, and I know that Yamato sharpshooters have deadly accurate aim, and if they find you, you will not remain alive! Now come on!" Dan unlocked the cell door, and they ran for safety outside the compound. --- As they got to the edge of the city, they hid in a ditch, safe from harm. "What will we do now?" "I've still got my radio. We can listen to police traffic and find out just what the hell is going on." Dan set his radio to listening mode. The voice of a police guard came through. "The unidentified conquestors have retreated and the compound is under control. Reports of a missing prisoner, Jennifer Attreides, have come through, but no sightings have been reported." "Oh, God," Jen cried. "We can't-" "Quiet! Listen!" The guard's voice came through on the radio again. "Reports show that the prisoner escaped with Seargant Dan Marks through a hole in her cell wall created when a contact grenade detonated in the compound wall." "Wait, a contact grenade?" Jennifer said, "Then it couldn't have been the Yamato militia! We don't use contact grenades!" "Well, if it wasn't the Yamato trying to bust you out, who was it?" "Well, of all the groups that use contact grenades, none of us are allies. In fact, the Saratoga...Oh, my God." "What?" "I know who it was and why they were attacking! The Saratoga are our direct enemies. We believe in strict democracy, they believe in authoritarian government. They want to kill our high officials so that they can force our soldiers to fight for them! They were trying to kill me!" "You were that important? Oh, God, Jennifer..." "We've got to get out of here. We've got to get to our compound! It's the only place we'll be safe!" "But we destroyed it in the raid! There's no place your people could have gathered to!" "Oh, God, Dan..." Jennifer fell into Dan's arms and shed bitter tears. "There, there, now. I love you. And as long as you're with me, I will not let anything happen to you." JP is impressive as a lead player and he can sure as hell hold his own on a rythm base BUT Dave and Marty are the more solid players. I'd like to see Nick and Mike go up in a drum contest and as for bassists, well, both David and John are pretty damn impressive and it's kinda hard to say which one is better...but the point here is this. Megadeth is not a shitty band because they play music 1000times faster than DT (or for that matter faster passages) and for that matter, they're music is just as intelligent as DT's. I mean, when you start judging a band by their fan base? that's pretty stupid, what the hell does that say about the band? absolutely jack shit. And lars...as you said it would never happen...Mike or the people on the list never suggested anything to Dave about DT touring...it was the other way around..it was Dave's idea. Now, DT would NOT blow Deth off the stage for a reason. 2 different styles of music. Both bands would be equally impressive on stage. So Lars, next time you think us as megadeth fans are stupid, how about trying to get to know us and coming down off of your little pedestal. If you want some proof on my intelligence, read my web page, learn something that you just don't know. In fact, read a few megadeth web pages done by other fans, you'll see how intelligent we really are. A fine album, let me tell you that right away. Not as typically Queensryche as you might hope for, not as progressive as some of their offerings, but definitely rocking. Geoff Tate's vocals are a bit less pure, especially when he goes higher and louder, but this doesn't at all decrease the magic that is his voice. Haven't listened to all the tracks yet (right now track), but "Get a Life" is my favourite so far. A shame it's only 3 and a half minute long (the total album is nearly one hour, though, with 14 tracks). Some people have said there is more of a grunge influence, well, I'd have to agree. But it's the good bits of grunge. I heard a few things that I connected with Soundgarden and the least bad of all grunge bands, old Pearl Jam. I might mail again with a review of more tracks. But, to cut a long story short, the album is definitely no disappointment. "Test For Echo" was more of a letdown (although it wasn't much of a letdown, honestly). -- /--------------------------------------------------------------\ | Richard Karsmakers cronos@worldaccess.nl | \--------------------------------------------------------------/ C.R.I.M.E. At Best Buy yesterday I saw rows and rows of Pearl Jam albums. And they only have 4 different albums! It was 3 or 4 times the size of Rush's section, who has 20 albums! But from their standpoint, it's a business and they must go with what they think will sell. All I can say is that if Pearl Jam were my favorite band rather than DT, I would have a much easier time finding their stuff, but it's all matter of personal choice. There is never going to be a new genre of music that will please everyone, thus there are many different styles. This is a good thing. We all need some sort of variety. Heck, we all get some variety within DT's music. Although it is a mesh of my personal favorite styles, it will not be for other people. So too with any type of music, whether it be grunge or rap or country. I may not personally like them, but others do, and their musical taste has just as much merit as anyone else's. I just felt I had to get this off my chest. ***Rob*** email_address_removed ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Mar 1997 14:38:46 -0500 (EST) From: email_address_removed.ca (Gordon McFee) To: email_address_removed Subject: Re: YTSEJAM digest 2342 Message-ID: >The dwarf smiled.
