And I don't think Pearl Jam (Eddie Vedder in particular) gets enough credit. Their (his) songs come across as some of the most emotional in any type of music." I just wanted to comment on this. This is so true. I know that whenever I listen to "Alive" I just have to sing along, otherwise the emotion might blow my head off. Eddie Vedder is one of the best lyricists out there right now but never gets the recognition from the critics. Zombie). Besides, most people nowadays don't use the ol' amp heads for distortion. They (what am I saying, WE) use different preamps, processors, and rack-amps. For example, Petrucci uses three different amps live. He has one Mesa Boogie amp head, and he switches from that to either of two different Tri-Axis (reeeely expensive distortion preamp??) rack systems. I can cop almost any tone w/ my preamp, and I would really like to know if anyone here has the Galactic Cowboy's EQ settings. That's the biggie I'm looking for!!! I must say I do like their music a whole lot. They rock nadz. They are playing some new stuff and I'll definitely be there. For those of you who bemoan the lack of good music in the Detroit area, here's your chance to catch a local prog band. The Palladium is usually cheap and I believe they're opening for a Led Zep tribute band led by Jason Bonham. Anyway, Tiles goes on stage around 10. Be there if you can. Uh..let's see here...what do i have to say? Lillian Axe is being mentioned a lot lately...I would say it's not really fair to judge them unless you hear "Psychoschizophrenia" as that disc shows a tremendous amount of growth away from the entire 80s scene. A real departure. Unfortunately, just when they were really starting to kick some butt, they go on a "hiatus." The singer is in a band called Bridge. Stevie Blaze is in a band with his brother called Near Life Experience which, as I have stated on the jam before, QUITE different from LA. More gothic and dark..weird band, i've seen them live a bunch of times and they have all these candles and stuff everywhere. A friend of mine heard some of their recorded demos and, oddly enough, he said it SUCKED. He's seen them live before and liked it so I guess it just doesn't work on tape.... I've also seen a lot of stuff on Seige's Even. I am looking for "Sophisticated" so if anyone has it, or any other Seige's Even for sale, let me know. I found two interesting CDS in the bargain bin the other. The first was Powersurge...pretty decent 80s-like Power Metal stuff..and they gave it to me for free so it was worth it. I also shockingly found Vicious Rumors "Welcome to the Ball" for $1.99! COOL!!! Anyone seen T-Ride anywhere? I've been looking for that dang cd for a year now! NEW QUEENSRYCHE IN LESS THAN TWO WEEKS!!! Wow this is turning into a long post with no DTC..oh well..... later Phillip Cool CD of the day: Dokken "Back for the Attack" - I've been listening to a lot of my old 80s stuff lately for some odd reason and this is one of the best ones. After listening to the DT Christmas CD I can't see where these guys hate each other. They are a motley crew though. They all have different and strange personalities, but like I said, they were having loads of fun on the Christmas CD. Although the lyrics tend to be real deep, they are decipherable, and quite kewl as well. Let alone all of the feeling that goes into it. My two faves are Black and rearviewmirror. Those songs hit me like a brick the first time I heard em. BTW, how's the latest album, No Code? I never bothered listening after I was so disappointed with Vitalogy. I only could get into a couple of songs off of that one. I still like Temple of the Dog a little more than Ten, Chris sings just as well as Eddie IMO. That lineup was the best that grunge ever produced. Some of the best songs as well. May the force be with you.
