If that isn't one of, or not THE heaviest Metallica song known to man, well.... IMNSHO, Hetfield finally got his signature distortion (i.e., the one he uses live) off that album...it's very similar to the distortion I'm trying to find for my axe. LOAD has musical integrity, but it's just not as complex as we're used to having Metallica put out. But listen to EVERYTHING ELSE that's being put out, compared to LOAD, and you'd be suprised how much more complex these songs are. I blame this on the degeneration of real talent being put on label records in leiu of shitty trends...but that's another, unsolvable mystery. > > Both of those albums are just commercial sellouts designed to > > produce radio-friendly songs that would yield them > > the most profits. i think if Metallica continues to go in this direction > > they will soon have to be called Poison. I'm looking for some information as to where I can get my hands on a CD copy of the Dream Theater bootleg of "Guitar Talkin/Acoustic + Clinic". I have seen a couple of people saying they have a copy. I know now that it's on the Kobra records label: the same label that made that awesome soundboard "Uncovered" boot. Does anybody have any info? A Web-page address, maybe, of Kobra records? Laterz! - Matt T. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Mar 97 21:14 EST From: Soul Madness To: email_address_removed Subject: Stuff Message-ID: Read on the ytsejam that the guy from Keel is a country singer. He apparently is no longer a country singer due to "too many rules in the country music business". Well, my opinion stands, hes just trying to do whatever will make him money rather than stick to his true roots and staying with metal (whatever the hell you called his style of music). Perhaps the style of music I'm thinking of is CRAP- no offense...I just hate his music. Also, for those of you who are out there looking for new unsigned metal bands, check out DFR and Enertia. DFR plays a blend of progressive, thrash and just plain metal. They have an awesome song off their disc "DFRENCES" called Soul Hold and many other great tracks that deserve attention. As for Enertia, who says true metal has to die? This band sounds SO amazing for an unsigned band...the sound is crystal-clear, none of the unsigned band crap that you usually hear (ex. bands that sound like their music was recorded on to a cassette and only sold them in CD form as an afterthought). The band plays music that could be described as a cross between Flotsam And Jetsam, Armored Saint and Dream Theater. They have a great 5-song CD out called Law Of Three and features amazing tracks like the riff-heavy "The Mirror" (not the DT song), the funky "I Know Your Demons" to the straight-ahead heavy metal of "Same Old Story". There is no grunge in either of these bands, there is no rap, there is no punk, its all metal. If anyone wants website addresses for these bands, e-mail me and I'll gladly give them to you. Support metal and buy these albums. A while back, I saw a post about someone hearing the original version of the Savatage song, Heal My Soul in a commercial. Has anyone ever got to hear the orchestra version of Hall Of The Mountain King? Its amazing. Firstly, I have it on my computer in Netscape Navigator and I heard it on a commercial of a company thats selling an orchestra CD- you know, call 1-800-blah-blah-blah and you pay only 19.99 for this lovely CD plus 29 dollars shipping and handling. I've babbled on enough now. I really hope that this rumor > doesn't turn into truth! This is even worse because > VP just started the recordings of their next album. I don't know whether I should be afraid to laugh or not. I got a terrible headache while watching JPs video, I think from watching the blur of his fingers racing over his fretboard making my eyes go all funky. I can't say I was impressed much. It would be astounding if the guy were human, you know, but John's not. I've done some research and am about to breach national security to reveal a highly classified piece of information. The reason that the new album's not coming out is because the government's trying to cover it up and has secluded the members to Area 54 in Nevada. Hanger 18. As soon as they are thoroughly beaten, analyzed, probed, dissected, and desensitized, the government will reassign them to positions of underwater arc welders for the US Department of Marine Studies, seeing as how they breathe underwater, being conditioned from another planet. They will also be given new names and identities, and ionic fluids will be constantly flushed into their system to keep their dangerous musical talents at bay. Genetically created lookalikes will be placed in their stead and will be forced to produce a terrible album that will be immediately shunned by the public and the band will be dropped. These genetically created clones will then be abducted and it will appear to us that the members of Dream Theater will be killed in a tragic accident whlie in preparation for releasing a spirited comeback album on a lesser label. So I fear, these people you have been seeing at Disneyland, and playing in Ethyl Mertz, and performing slinics around the world are not really the true band members. These clones are not genetically perfect and tend to have some slight quirks. Here are some as follows... John Myung: Loss of speech. Kevin Moore: Testicular Cancer. Mike Portnoy: Hair Loss. James LaBrie: He casts no shadow. John Petrucci: Chronic post nasal drip and vertigo. Derek Sherinian: A tendency to confuse which sex he is attracted to and an overwhelming attraction to blondes. This may be my last post, my friends.I have revealed far too much and will surely be captured as a traitor to my country and executed on the spot. Goodbye... I wanted to wait until everything was completely booked and confirmed, but obviously the cat is out of the bag and running rampid all over the internet!!!!! So here it is: THE OFFICIAL WORD as of Thursday, March 6th: We've decided to book a few more "special, one-off" shows (ala the Fix for '96 shows this past December on the East Coast) this time in Europe, to tide the fans over until the label gets our asses in the studio. Our #1 priority is still recording the record, but as long as we're sitting aroung waiting, we need to keep playing and continue to earn a living. Hopefully, we will enter the studio directly after the dates...... Anyway, here's what confirmed so far: Thursday April 10th - Forum - Nurnberg, Germany Friday April 11th - Babylon - Munich, Germany Saturday April 12th - Palalido - Milan, Italy Monday April 14th - Melkweg - Amsterdam, Holland Tuesday April 15th - Noorderlight - Tilburg, Holland Wednesday April 16th - Noorderlight - Tilburg, Holland Friday April 18th - Pier 2 - Bremen, Germany Saturday April 19th - Biskuithalle - Bonn, Germany Sunday April 20th - Mike Portnoy's 30th Birthday - Home Sweet Home!! : ) Important Note: Things can still change at this stage (dates, venues, etc.) There is the possibility of one more German show being added on the front of the tour. I will have the info on that, as well as the opening act (possibly Fates Warning) hopefully by tomorrow. I wanted to get this info out now to set the record straight. What's this "want" a gig in Newcastle... we NEED a gig in the UK!! For I&W we got a couple of small tours & I saw them in Milton Keynes... For "Awake" we got the Ronnie Scotts gig (wish I had been there) & one show at the London Forum (I think)... Is there something DT doesn't like about the UK? If there aren't enough DT fans in the UK for it to be thought of as worthwhile, I'd say they need to do more gigs here & get more promotion going... I don't sit around with my band & say "oh, there's no one interested in coming to our gigs, we'd better not do any..."... I say "Fuck it, let's force feed 'em with our stuff until they can't ignore us!!" I know the UK isn't the most ignored place in the world by DT, but if you don't ask, you don't get...
