I traded with Al in good faith and based on a promise that he would send my tapes within a week after we made the deal. I got my tapes to him within a week, why shouldn't I have received anything by now? I took the time and effort and money to get the tapes to him. Two things, actually. One is that Chris would have the audacity to actually write what he wrote. It's never enough out of him. The second is that big bad Bill Bajzek (unsubscribed william now) was around way, way, way back when, even before me (I came on board somewhere in the 600s). That he would unsubscribe after being on the 'jam for so long actually saddens me. That he would take a few stupid flames or whatever and unsub is a tad drastic, but nonetheless he *had* been around for awhile. Dissenting opinions are always going to take some flak, but without them, the whole point of discourse is lost. I mean, what's the fun in a bunch of people "sitting" around agreeing with one another? That's too much like a political convention. Of course people are going to applaud your opinions; they mirror your own! I took the other side of the Ebonics debate and argued with four or five people at once on the #jam. No one (virtually) agrees with me, but you don't see me unsubbing because "everyone is a dick." I just think every voice, be it dissenting or blatant yes-manning (not a comment out of you, Tempus), should be heard. Like it or not this mailing list is a community. Every community has its idiots, its people who fly off the proverbial handle, and its intelligent folk. But without each, we might lose perspective and the variety that enrich our feeble online lives. The end. Sermon's over.
