Message-ID: You know, it's entirely possible that Kirk has some kinky or alternative sexual preference. However, I find that the more satisfied a person is with his or her own intimate relationship in his/her life, the less it matters. Four years ago, I'd have read the article about Kirk and had a cow. Physically. A Cow would have thundered out of my ass and would stand mooing at you even as you read this. (whoa, what imagery! I should write fiction!) But now, it hardly raised my eyebrow. I figure "what the hell, it's probably just a crazy band thing, and even if it were serious, how much do I really care?" I doubt my perspective on this is uncommon here on the Jam. Consider it for a moment, and if the Kirk news bothers you, consider your own relationships, and what you might be able to do with them. Day one: 62 Virtual Songs reservations. Hoooooly shit. The Phoenix Roadrunners suck. They REALLY do. The Long Beach Ice Dogs handed them their ass so hard tonight that I feel deeply the pain of trying to support Arizona sports all these years. Yet I shall persevere. And what's with that name, "Ice Dogs"? I've BEEN to Long Beach. All they have there are hotels, convention halls/arenas, restaurants, and oh yeah, a beach or two. Go far enough away from the central city and you'll even spot a residence here and there. Never saw a single dog there in five visits... not one. What they DO have in abundance is BUMS. I've never seen so many bums in so small an area, and I've been to New York! :) It should be the "Long Beach Ice Bums". For what it's worth, they're a very tight, very talented hockey team. Plus, the city itself is rather beautiful if you can avoid the panhandlers, and the rest of the people there have a pretty good attitude. I'll be back there the weekend of March 2nd, if anyone lives nearby. Boy, this sure has been one off-topic post!! Quick DT-related note. I'm hoping everyone local to me will really turn out for their next shows in Arizona. Everyone I know who missed the Awake shows is really bumming now, not having seen the band since '93!! (yes, there are a few of that are actually just sitting out here scanning jams for DTC) Secondly , a persons sexuality has nothing to do with how good they write music. This past weeks jam has reminded me of one time when I mentioned going to see Melissa Ethridge to some idiot once, and he looked at me and said "you like her??? but she's gay!!". Oh gee, I guess I'd better forget about her great voice and songwriting....yeah, that's it....dumbass. Anyway, I dunno bout you guys, but I am DYING to see the release of new DT! I can't stand the suspense anymore!! I've also managed to convert a large group of friends down here (Columbus) into DT fanatics in the past 6 months, so even THEY are all asking me "when's the new CD gonna be out?" Guitar World. The column was run by a man some of you might have heard of. His name was MIKE VARNEY. From this Spotlight column he, like a sieve, screened hordes of talent and formed a record label exclusively for instrumental guitar music. Its name was SHRAPNEL. In fact, both of those capitalized words still exist to this day... > I don't remember this being mentioned before, nor do I remember any > bootlegs having something -exactly- like this on there..... To hear > this guy tell it, he has a copy of that tape. That tape can be heard on one of the InstruMental discs. I'm not sure which one, so PLEASE don't ask me. In fact, don't ask me ANY questions, because I don't know ANYTHING. About ANYTHING. But if you like big, nasty monsters, go see "The Relic." The queen Alien wouldn't stand a chance against that thing. The Gmork? Don't make me laugh. The Rancor monster? Yeah, as if Jabba's hired thug could outrun a turtle if it TRIED. I mean this hellspawn is the sort of thing a platoon of Predators would hunt down...and lose half the team in the process. I can't think of many big bad beasts brutal enough to give that thing a good workout. Maybe the T-Rex from Jurassic Park... Maybe Draco, yeah Draco can fly and breathe fire... Maybe WildKoba... I was lucky enough to get a sneak preview of George Bellas' debut album. "Turn of The Millinium" features progressive guitar virtuoso (and i am not using this title lightly) George Bellas, Matt Guiilory tearing up the keys as usual (also on Rush Tribute and James Murphy's Convergence), veteran drum deity Deen Castronovo, and jazz bassist Kevin Chown who kicks serious ass! The album's material is very complex and well thought out with more odd-time signatures than you care to count. Some parts sound reminiscent of Metropolis Part 1's instrumental section and we all know how cool that is. The album should be out within the next two months, i think, sometime in March. I realize this is a bit early but I wanted to write this before memory failed me. Mark this one down as you won't want to miss it, but then again, that is my opinion! In addition, a local prog band here in the Bay Area is preparing a demo. These guys incorporate lots of odd-time and ingenuity in their music; one of their songs is currently over 20 minutes. Depending on their label situation and when it becomes available, I will dub the demo for Jammers interested. This will be a worthwile investment for any prog metal fan. Hope this information helps you find killer new material for you prog collections! Cheers...prog on! It's decent metal, but not to my taste . The album is called Maza. I'll take $6. Yngwie: Saw him once, but for some reason could not hear the vocals. (But who goes to see him for the vocals, anyway?). He shredded. I love his classical stuff. I don't care for his new covers cd. BTW, I need more classically influenced prog metal, ala Stratavarious, any suggestions? Supper's Ready: Yeah, the originals are lame. Don't listen to Genisis. They suck. (JUST KIDDING!!!) Dregs of the Net: Anybody have this? Any reviews or reccomendation? I bought the Inferno disc. The recording was bad and the vocals not great, but other than that, it was ok. Noise, Dream Disc: I ordered about 20 discs from Noise, Dream Disc, and CD Europe and the first one I got was from Noise. I would not hesitate to order from them again. (except I hate most of their stuff) DTC Finally!: I got my fan club disc today (#1138, BTW). Yeah!! O Holy Night is killer!! Firs off, I apologized for taking this on the jam, but I wasn't the one who brought it up. I wouldn't have used the word "fag" in my subject line, but the one who brought it up used the word first, so I was just building off of his thread. Second, I didn't mean for it to sound like such a big deal. Myself and my friends are die-hard Metallica fans who like to joke around about the "new" Metallica and we like to say that Lars and Kirk have a thing for each other. I know that it's their personal life, but when you see all these pictures that make you say "hmm..." and read all these interviews and Metallica club magazines and whatever, it just starts to feel like it's getting out of hand. They've said some things, seemingly joking, but it's been going on for a long time, so it makes you wonder. Do I honestly think either is gay? Probably not. Do I care? Not really. I think if they were really gay, they wouldn't do all of this nonsense and they'd keep it hidden or come right out and say it. Unless this is a diversion... Oh, and the reason I didn't take it to alt.music.metallica is because there is no alt.music.metallica (to my knowledge) once again, I apologize. ======================================================================== "Are you gonna bark all day, little ----- doggie, or are you gonna ---- ------------- ---- bite?"-Micheal Madsen, ---- - ---- Reservoir Dogs -- - - - - - - - -- "Just victims of the in-house - - - - - - - drive-by.
