Message-ID: Hey, Last night, I meant to go to the movies. To make a long story short, we didn't go, we went to the mall (friends and me). I told them I wanted to go to Record Town. They said not to because they are waaaayyyy overpriced (I agree, for the most part). I said I knew that, but they were the only place in the mall that carries 'Tage. I went it and found... STREETS! I've been looking for this disc for MONTHS! I was so happy! Apparently, they realized that me and my friend Nate have been buying 'Tage there (we've bought 3 albums of theirs at RT in the past month), and re-stocked, with Streets and a few others. I'm so happy. People on the Jam have been saying how they prefer Jon Oliva for the most part, because he has more emotion. Now, before Streets, I only had HOR and DWD (AWESOME discs, both), so I figured, "How could he be better than Zachary? Look at 'I Am' and 'Doesn't Matter Anyway'! His voice doesn't compare." Wow. Were you guys right. After listening thorough the entire Streets disc, I'm convinced that Jon is the better singer. This disc is sooooooo indescribably good. 'Believe' just took over the spot as my fave 'Tage song, kicking 'Chance''s ass. :) So, what 'Tage disc should I get next? (Dream Theater, If you type faster than me, does it make you more talented? Or just faster? If your LP plays at 45 instead of 33 1/3, does it make it any better? Talent isn't relative. Speed is. The Edge is a very talented player with his credo "notes are precious, I won't waste a single one of them". He's a good musician. Yngwie Malmsteen is a very fast player, but does he write good and enjoyable music? None that I've heard. (With some exceptions on "Trilogy".) He's a good shredder. I prefer good musicians to good shredders 7-11 and then some more. Oh, Lord, mayst thou give us more of those that are both. Just wondering... In 1991, I was living in a little shithole of a town northwest of Dallas, TX. If you had your vehicle pointed just right, you could pick up Z Rock out of Denton (their x-mission location). My best friend and co-worker were driving to work one morning when PMU came on Z Rock. My friend turned it up, as he had been trying to explain this new song he had heard to me for about a week...I just kept missing it. Of course, it blew me away, only to end up near the bottom of my list of favorite DT tunes over the years. A year or so later, I tuned to Z Rock one morning only to hear Hispanic music...they had dropped out of the DFW radio market. Now I live in Denver, which also lost Z Rock a while back...but I'll always have an appreciation for the radio station who turned me onto a whole new world of music. It will not repeat in the future ( I hope so ...) :) However, I will translate that message and add some comments: Of course, Yngwie Mamsteen is known as one of the fast playing guitar players. And he shows it every time. I NEVER said that Petrucci and Malmsteen has the same way of playing. I really think Petrucci admires Malmsteen, which is demonstrate on the song "Viking Outro" ( available on the "Instrumental III" bootleg ), where Petrucci plays a part of a Malmsteenīs song.
