Subject of this post is a magnificent CD I bought just before christmas and haven't stopped listening to since: "Riddles, Questions, Poetry & Outrage" by Leviathan not knowing much of this band I can't comment too much on them, but this is a GREAT progressive metal band, and remind me a lot of the two latest Fate's Warning studio releases (Parallels and Inside Out) with a little harder edge. Great songs, good instrumentation (I love the keyboards) and a good singer. The band seems to work a lot like FW too, John Lutzow (one of the guitarists) write most of the songs, plays the keys and seems like being the driving force behind the band... Enough rambling... :) The CD is released by Century Media, (Nevermore etc.) and the prod. number is 77143-2. Macalpine? On tour? Again? Yes!!!!!!!!! Please someone tell me about this. He's one of my absolute favorite guitarists. I saw Metalica on New Years Eve at the San Jose Arena in CA. I hate to say it, but I was completely unimpressed with a band who I've been a phan of for some time now. Their concert was just like every live CD you hear with some new material. James even said almost the same things as he says on the other CD's. Also, the stunt where they lit someone on fire, had someone else fall from a ladder, and pretended to short out their systems had me fooled. I think, now that I know, that that was one of the most tasteless stunts ever pulled by a band in history. I even had floor admission, so I was 35 feet from the stage at all times. Corn also sucked. Disappointing. I think I'll wait for the box set to come out to get any other CD's of theirs. Be well and take care. Matt B "The dead are rarely violent." (Shawn Rosenheim, Asst. I apologize for making a negative comment about the suicide note. The reason I posted the comment in the first place was because of a misunderstanding. The original suicide message did not have the word ytsejam in it, not even in the To: field. Thus, I assumed that the sender was spamming the whole internet with it. After Erik posted a followup to the jam though (I was behind in reading by about 4 jams), I realized that my spamming assumption was wrong. The point of my original post was, look, the sender is looking for attention from the whole internet, and the date field indicates the suicide message is a couple of weeks old anyway, so let's not all get so excited about it. Again, this was based on an incorrect assumuption on my part. I also admit that the way I put it was rather insensitive. To conclude, then, I realize that any suicide note should be taken seriously. I'm sorry that my comment put this one in a negative light. It seems the Finnish bands are getting some coverage around here. :) Now that's what I call musical progression. :) To the guy who asked which Stratovarius CD is better, "Episode" or "Fourth Dimension" the answer would be without a doubt "Episode". "4D" is a good disc, it has even some spectacular moments and the instrumental "Stratovarius" shows what their guitarist Timo Tolkki is all about. But "Episode" probably has five of the best ten songs Stratovarius has ever done. Besides, Jens Johansson and Joerg Michael do not play on "4D" or any of the earlier Strato discs. By the way (look ma, no acronyms!), Stratovarius is in the studio right now, the new cd will be out sometime around early May. Timo Kotipelto (their singer) wouldn't give the album title away just yet, but I'll keep you posted. Someone said that Waltari has female vocals. Not true. Their latest effort, "Yeah! Yeah! Die! Die! - Death Metal Symphony in Deep C" (now there's an album title that screams for an acronym!) has a female opera soprano as one of the three lead vocalists, the other two being Amorphis' death metal growler Tomi Koivusaari and Kartsy Hatakka, Waltari's own vocalist, who absolutely defies any classification, he can sound like anything from Madonna (yes he can!) to your run-of-the-mill black metal screamer...but back to the point, no other Waltari production has any female vocals save the Lapplander girls singing backing vox on their disc "So Fine!". If you're into weirdo-metal (I don't dare call them progressive, or it just may be that they're the most progressive band on this planet!), give them a listen. If you think Mr. Bungle or Primus are strange, you ain't heard nuthin' yet! I'm sure if Madonna would hear their death-techno cover of "Vogue", she'd sue the hell out of them.... Chris Ptacek, you said that Amorphis sucks. Fine. I respect you opinion. Now I'd like to know why do you think they suck. Is it the vox that turn you away or what? You definitely should give them another chance, only this time listen the growling vocalist like he was just an instrument supporting the keyboards. That should give you a different aspect to their stuff. :) Not that I'm politicking (is that a word) for Finnish metal or anything! :P _Mape_ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 07 Jan 1997 09:26:56 -0600 From: Madelaine To: email_address_removed Subject: Re:Queensryche Boot...yipes! Tracks 1-5 are the MTV Unplugged tunes, 6-10 are songs from the EP & Warning (and maybe one from Rage for Order, it's too early to think straight). 6-9 were recorded live in NY, Oct. 1983, and 10 was from Tokyo, 1985... And now, Nigel, it seems you've found a BETTER one! Eeep!!! Especially that "stars" track. It is the one from Hear N Aid, and to get it, you have to FIND Hear N Aid in the first place!! Jay Peele just moved and he is setting up a studio in the new house. He is planning on doing some recording this winter with a couple of new members, Gary is still doing the bass work. Jay was talking about changing the band name but he really hasn't let me know one way or the other. He will let me know, I run the official WWW page for Inferno. http://www.gl.umbc.edu/~mbacko1/inferno.html is the URL For those who heard the Architect demo tape (which I like a lot better than the CD) you will find that Jay's vocals are getting a whole lot better.
