Hey everyone,

To this to whoever asked about TOWHTSTS ==>The Ones Who Helped To Set The
Sun. :)

And to whoever asked about if Savatage is death metal...My answer would be a
big N-O. I have their last 4 albums which are metal-ish but I wouldn't call
them death metal. Maybe they sounded death-ish in their previous albums but
I can't tell you about that. Here's my review of those couple o'CDs.

"Streets"A Rock Opera-Very guitar heavy album. But I don't mean that in a
bad way. Chris Oliva just has this sound that is aggressive, but it just
goes so well with the story. Sorry I can't describe it better than that but
you just have to listen for yourself. But the whole album isn't centered
around a lonely guitar. Believe is an amazing song and that doesn't showcase
Chris' guitar work. 

Edge Of Thorns-This album is a little more mellow than Streets. Zak Stevens
is the new singer, you've probably heard about how Jon Oliva is a more
emotional singer than Zak. Just true but don't think Zak is just sitting
around and getting kicks out of shiny things. He has more of a range than
Jon, and if you're into singers with huge vocal huge he's a singer for you.

Handful of Rain-Well this is a different album(I mean that in a good way too;)) 
Chris Oliva has died and Alex Skolnick(Testament) is filling for him. I
think this is a great album but its just so different from the other
Savatage albums because no one can play like Chris Oliva. But the guitar is
great on album, too.

Dead Winter Dead-Okay, this is another theme based album like Streets. Its
about whats been going on in Sarajevo. There are just a couple of line-up
changes. Skolnick is replaced by Chris Caffery and Al Pitrell, also Dr.
Killdrums is replaced by Jeff Plate. This is a good CD,too. There is even a
cello in this album.

Okay on which to get first, well if you are a metal head get Streets first.
If you're more of a prog head get Handful of Rain. Get Dead Winter Dead
first only if you're really into classical. I think if you get DWD first
you'll get the wrong first impression of Savatage. And if you can't put
yourself into any music group get Edge Of Thorns. Have fun listening!

        This is also called "Garage Days and More" and it has a total of 15
tracks, not just the original 5 from the EP.  I used to have the original
EP.  This "Garage Days and More" CD is still about the same quality (I can't
tell any difference) as the original. It's half the price, readily available
through countless mail-order companies, and it has more stuff on it (Killing
Time, Stone Cold Crazy, So What, black album demos w/ Jaymz singing "Na na
na na na, laa laa" in place of some lyrics, and it has the One demo).

Wait a minute...  At one time, I had a tape...  A really old version of "Kill 
'em All" that had both those songs on it.  I've never even listened to the 
old Garage Days.  I sold the tape to a guy who said he couldn't find it, (my 
copy was getting old anyway, and I thought I'd just go buy a new one) and 
when I got home with the new one, I put it in and ... Shit!  Where's 
Blitzkrieg???  And Am I Evil???  WTF!?!?!?!?  
I asked the guy that ran the place I bought it from (damn cool place, just 
bought NIN's Rusted Nails and RN II there... but anyway) and he said 
Metallica had just re-released Kill 'em All, and for some fuked up reason had 
decided to leave those two songs off...  But, the point of this message is, 
They actually appeared on the old Kill 'em All..
BTW..  if anyone has that old Kill 'em All tape (or if the CD exists, that 
would be better... but I don't think it does)  I'd be willing to pay decently 
for it...  E-mail me!

Details
=======

The Ytsejam shirts are two sided prints.  The front of the shirt features 
a *full color* raytraced graphic from Chris Hailey in Washington.  The 
graphic is a beautifully done scene with the Majesty logo floating behind 
a group of marble columns on a tile floor with a wide view of space 
visible behind.

The back of the shirt is in a solid light blue color.  The majority 
of the design is a huge Majesty logo, framed by the Dream Theater title 
at the top, the mailing list address on the sides and "Ytsejam" at the 
bottom.  Below that is "Internet Mailing List" between two more Majesty 
logos.

The current lot of shirts is 217 (they printed up more than I asked 
for, but I'm not complaining).  If those run out, and demand is high 
enough, I may run another with a slightly different design.

Pricing
=======

The cost of the shirts is $16 each.  The shirt is damn close to concert 
quality, so $16 is a steal (last Dream Theater concert I was at charged 
$23 for a shirt!).  If you require a size larger than XL, please let me 
know ASAP so I can get those orders in.  There is an additional $1 charge 
for each size increase (ie. XXL = $17).  If you are picking the shirt up 
from me directly the $16 price stands.  If you can't get the shirt in 
person, you can order one through the mail for $20 to cover shipping.

I spoke with the people at the post office and I've decided to set the 
shipping prices outside the USA at $9, for a total of $25.  I realize 
this is damn expensive for a tshirt, and I'm sorry.  If individual prices 
are signifigantly less expensive, I will gladly return a check for the 
balance.

Ordering
========

The shirts are open to mail ordering now.  Mail orders will be shipped 
out every Wednesday via Priority Mail for US orders, and airmail for 
all others.  Checks and money orders will be cashed before the order goes 
out, most likely on Monday.  So far, mail orders have gone well, the only 
problem I have had has been with the bank, not the post office, so don't 
worry about your orders.  All US orders are insured for the amount paid 
for the shirts and shipping, and insurance on airmail depends on the 
country and other aspects.

I've occasionally seen this band mentioned here in progressive-metal
-and- death metal circles...  I can now confirm that Iced Earth will
be playing at "my" convention, Dragon*Con '97, in late June.  For info
on the convention (probably doesn't include Iced Earth's bio yet, but
I just got finished editing it) please see http://www.dragoncon.org.
Iced Earth's new album is based on the Spawn comic from Todd
McFarlane, and since the convention is SF/fantasy/comics/gaming
oriented, they're a natural choice.

Phoenix-area metal band Doomsday are also on the bill.  We're still
awaiting confirmations from The Misfits and Anthrax.  :)

There are several  (comments for those I have heard).  Many of these are not
progressive metal per se but range from symphonic, 70's style (KING CRIMSON,
YES, GENESIS) to neo-progressive (MARILLION, PENDRAGON) : 

STRANGERS ON A TRAIN (Britain; with Clive Nolan from Pendragon, this is neo-prog)
ARRAKEEN (France, guitarist from Marillion makes guest appearance, neo-prog stuff)
HALLOWEEN (France, in French; male & female voice, dramatic, intense and symphonic)
KAOS MOON (Canada)
SECRET CINEMA (Italy) 
TALE CUE (Italy, in English;  mellow but intense, this is maybe for Tori Amos fans)
WALTARI and 3RD AND THE MORTAL (these are both combined with death 
metal style vocals and are definitely heavy progressive metal)
WERWOLF 
THE WISHING TREE (Britain; mellow and wistful, also a Marillion side project).
ACUMEN (USA, see their web page)

The two that I am most familiar with are;

THE GATHERING Always
                          Almost a Dance
                         Mandylion
Heavy, death-style prog metal from Holland.  Grind male vocals on first two CD's but great 
keyboard driven death metal.  On Mandylion they have changed to clean-vocal, female 
singer that is awesome!  She is really a powerful and emotional singer that changes 
the whole face of this group.  One of the best releases of 1995.  Dramatic, 
gothic-sounding stuff, very good.

LEGER DE MAIN  The Concept of Our Reality
Fabulous trio out of Pennsylvania.  These are some of the most talented newcomers I 
have heard.  Imagine RUSH circa "Signals"-era with Kate Bush or Tori Amos on vocals.  
This album contains an epic 19 minute track.  New album due out soon.
