James >Hetfield's voice actually sucks im my opinion. * I happen to really like Hetfield's voice - at least on the albums since And Justice For All. Before that he tended to sing in a higher pitch, and yell more. Granted, LaBrie could probably hold tone and pitch better, and maybe even sing with a choir (hehe, not Hetfield), but Hetfield's voice is more inclined to very heavy/thrash music. It has an "in-your-face" sound to it. Kind of like Dave Mustaine's voice. They both come at you with both barrels blazing, as does their music. DT's music, on the other hand, is so intricate and complicated, that it requires an accurate singer to compliment it. I don't think that Hetfield's voice would work on a lot of DT's songs. You know what I mean? Ever singer is good at a particular style. You have to compare apples against apples. There's only 3 reasons I can think of: 1. Those producers are tied up doing something else. 2. Those producers really hated working on Awake and don't care to repeat the experience. 3. DT wasn't COMPLETELY satisfied with how Awake turned out, i.e. looking back on it, they'd like to have done this with that song or that with this song or whatever, and they wish the producers could have added the input necessary to "get it right" so now they're gonna get a different producer so they can "get it right." Could be anything, I guess. > > As to where the new album will be recorded, I think a lot of it has to > do with who is gonna produce it. There could be something in the water over there. If there is, QR could could end up with that country twang for half that album. If it were up to me, I'd stay the hell away from Nashville. (joke) Also: it sure is amazing what's happened to the Jam. One week has passed since I left school for the break and the Jams are crawling one by one into my mailbox now, as opposed to the flurry I was getting just a couple of weeks ago. I was at my cousin's Christmas party Wednesday, when I struck up a conversation with some dude about the Rush concerts. He's telling me about how he has been following Rush for so long and has gone to all their shows, and lives 20 minutes from the Meadowlands, NJ but didn't see them 2 weeks ago. After telling him about my 4th row center experience, I went on to talk about seeing DT at Toad's the weekend before. So he's like "Ohhh no NOT Dream Theater. We call them the poor man's Rush..." I'm like WHAT? WHY? and who's this WE. He goes, "all of us on the Rush list...""...and, they are trying so hard to be like Rush and are too fancy" But he didn't think that Rush was fancy. After introducing him to the term "Progressive Rock" and convincing him that DT is NOT TRYING to be like Rush I asked him if he has even heard DT's music. He owns Awake and Change of Seasons. But not I&M. and here's the funny part. I get into an even BIGGER argument over WDADU 'cause he insisted that I&M was their first release. Before it got too ugly I just walked away. Have any of you heard of DT being described by a Rush fan as "A poor man's Rush"? I know for a fact that many Rush fans ARE DT fans. And at the Nassau and Meadowlands Rush shows I saw a handfull of "Fix for '96" T-shirts. Anyway, I just had to get it off my chest. Have a great new year!!! I think this guy is a real good choice. :) Ever think the maybe the reason the John and Duane were dumped was because mebbe they were trying to take everything out of the band's control? I thought the sound of Awake was almost perfect. These guys did Ozzy's No More Tears, too, which I think has near perfect production. Notice Ozzy didn't go back to them on the last album. (Yet, they played parts in it). I think there's something to these guys we don't know about. Anyway, I think things will be OK. :) Laterz! I was a bit disappointed that Zak or Jon didn't have any songs on the cd (not counting backing vocals) but still, the singers they had were bloody amazing. Angra, Well, I don't know if anyone has ever heard of these guys or for that matter has even heard a few of their songs. I was lucky enough to get one of their cd's yesterday really cheap (normally 30$) and let me put it this way, Imagine DT..and then imagine DT 10times more intense...add some Deep Purple, Queen, Maiden, Fates Warning and Queensyrche and Gamma Ray (alive '95) in..and you have Angra. The cd I got was called Holy Land...son of a bitch, these guys are the most amazing band I have ever heard. There's alot of percussion, veryu operatic vocals, a REALLY good keyboardist and keyboard sound. Mike Portnoy has met his match as far as this drummer goes, same with Myung and Petrucci, like I said, way more intense than DT and if you think DT are amazing musicians, these guys blow them out of the water. The arrangments are amazing as well. If you get the chance, listen to them and just buy it. If I get the chance I'll make a wav file of some of the songs.
