Best Christmas cd I have ever heard. Just listening to the music and it feels like Dead Winter Dead Pt 2. Chris Caferty jams on this. Great concept album....... I just got my copy of TSO on Christmas Eve, and it is Great. However, Chris Caferty didn't play the guitars on this; Al Pitrelli, the same lead as on DWD, did most of the lead (&some rhythm) on this one. BTW, do these guys BELIEVE what's being said on TSO. There's a lot of heavy faith/beliefs proclaimed in the TSO lyrics, even the ones that 'tage producer/album concept/lyricist Paul O'Neill wrote. Also: I second/endorse the description of Enchant on 2140. I mean they all seemed happy with the sound they got (the clear drums, cool guitars, audible bass, keys were there althou a little low) many bands use the same producer over and over..why not use the guys from awake<< Good question - I dunno either, but I thought the same thing a couple times. In regards to the keys being low in the mix, I think that's pretty much due to Kevin separating himself from the band. Anyway, back to the original question, I still dunno - anyone with connections want to ask them? >>Is that producer the same one that did Awake? That was a good album. They did a very good job recording it. Where is the new album being recorded, anyway?<< Kevin Gilbert didn't produce Awake - it was John Purdell and Duane Barron As to where the new album will be recorded, I think a lot of it has to do with who is gonna produce it. QR's new one is being produced by Peter Collins and since he lives in Nashville now, they are doing half the album in Nashville (not that the new one will have a country twang to it) and the other half in Seattle (if my ytsememory serves me correctly). yet another YtseScott sed: >>I've got a couple of questions regarding the Ronnie Scott's gig of last year. The first is, has anyone else noticed that the fan club CD seemed to have been remastered from the original performance? I have a tape of the entire concert, and though the quality is not as good, I noticed that some of the vocals seemed to be redone on the fanclub cd.<< Yep - and if you listen to ACOS, some retouching was done on those 4 tracks as well - which is not uncommon with live recordings - especially since these were songs only played once (it's not like they have 5 dozen performances to pick from). >>The second question is: What is going on right before Red Hill Mining Town? They started it up, and then James says Oh no.. I don't think so... We just learned about this gig four hours ago..." something to that effect, like he might be talking to someone in the audience. Then they stop, and then start it over. I was confused by this, so I was wondering if anyone who was actually there or knows what happened could help me out. Of course, this is not on the fanclub version, only on the tape of the concert. Ig anyone could help me out I would really appreciate it.. Thanks.<< I dunno if it was James or Derek or someone else who goofed up, but apparently someone did. Since they were recording and the goof was too big, James decided to stop the song and start over again, which is where the Fan Club CD version starts. As to the comment about learning the song 4 hours ago, I think he was probably joking, but who knows, maybe he wasn't. Considering that they learned these songs mostly during soundchecks 'n' such, I still find it amazing at how well they did. Here's one fan that hopes they'll do another one sometime in the near future (with Natural Science in the list, of course!) And while I'm thinking of covers, I'd love to see them do a version of Yes's Heart of the Sunrise - I know this was part of the medley they did with Steve Howe at Ronnie Scott's, but I love to see them do the whole song! And also Circles from Joe Satriani - that is such an intense song - talk about going from one extreme to the other (and then back again)! I fucked up. re: Marcel Message-ID: I should have mentioned this to the Jam. I finally got all the recent payments through to Marcel, but I had to go through postal hell this last time to do it, as my original parcel to him was returned undeliverable. I would say that those of you waiting for Carpe Diem discs would have gotten them 2 or 3 weeks sooner if the misstep hadn't occurred. So it isn't 100% Marcel's fault... part of this was my screwing up the original packet. I had put on the customs slip that there was only written correspondence in the packet, but they freaked when they saw the big cashier's check in it, and sent it back. This time, I was very specific. I listed the contents as "written material plus one huge-ass bank check" and apparently that was sufficient. I also want to apologize to many of my international customers: until recently I was unaware that your local customs were taxing you for the discs I delivered. I now list the value very low ($5 or $10 per disc) in hopes that you will receive them and not have to pay any extra money. Please let me know if you run into problems. So far, the most difficulty I have is sending packets to the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg, possibly because of the known boot CD trade there. They are often delayed a long time or taxed. I am doing everything I can think of to make this better... any suggestions anyone may have will be welcomed. Later. OK, hesitated to reply to this privately, but I'd be interested to know of other opinions on this: What's the point here? How can you compare two bands completely different? Metallica has always favoured power over precision (how many gigs of Metallica do you know of not containing any major fuck-up?) whereas DT has to keep the priority on the precision side. I was actually surprised how well DT covered Damage, very precise, but lacking the raw power that only Metallica can deliver on this song. Somewhat surgical, too clean. Barney did not do the mistake of imitating Hetfield's voice as many a vocalist (I deleted "singer") would have tried to do. He sang it his way, and though many people don't like it, it was the best way of doing it. So I don't see any point here arguing who kicks who's ass off the stage. DT and Met are so different I doubt they'll ever get to share a stage, anyway. Last but not least, and a tad late: MERRY PROG-MAS EVERYONE!!!!! .............................................
