Message-ID: I was unable to grab a shirt last night at the Birch Hell. Does anyone have an extra or know of some way that I can get one? I would like one of the maroon ones in XL but if not, any one of them in XL would be great too!! BTW - anyone know if the keyboard chick from Einstein if available? :) Wow! Her playing was just as beautiful as she was. I'm in love. :) Anyone know if their CD has pictures? :) I sure hope that DT picks up a producer that likes Images and Words so he can help them re-work the new stuff a little. Most of them had the CIAW-feel to them. A bunch of connected, rhythmic, riffs. Sounded like White Zombie. Not enough of Images and Words era DT. The new stuff didn't sound as ... hmmmm... majestic as the older stuff. I know it's almost impossible to digest a DT song on one listen so I'll try not to be too critcal until I hear the final versions on the album a couple of times. I was also in one of my "Man, I really miss Kevin" moods last night. :( It was great that they let us in on time and that we didn't have to wait to wait until midnight to hear some music. The 1st band went on 9:45 and DT played from 11-1am. Too bad the bouncers kicked everyone out just when the band started to come out. Did anyone stay outside to meet the band after being booted by the bouncers? Also, PLEASE say that someone taped this show. Let me know if you have a copy, I have lots to trade. Every time I've been there to see DT, the show has been great, and I've gotten to meet lots of jammers, and it has always been a good time all around. This past weekend was no exception. Many thanks to Heather Powers for setting up the TGIF shindig and for the snack (Dew never tasted so good!). Thanks also to Skadz and Chris DiGiuseppe for everything! Thanks also to Anthony and the rest of Clockwork for the excellent listening material! :) DTC: The new tunes sounded great. At New Haven and Providence the keys seemed really low in the mix and thus some of the harmonies were difficult to make out, but at Birch Heaven Derek was more audible and it sounded great! Guitar enthusiasts: The Ibanez JPM for this coming year is the same axe, but once again with a new color scheme. The color scheme for '97 is the black and white version that's on the 7-string. Your review in the 2114 jam was right on the money. Very kewl.I was right ain front of the mixing boards on JP's side, and the sound was very good. A bit on the load side, but the mixing was pretty good. Hey Bafu, Portnoys Drum kit was awsome man. A killer round pipe setup, with the awsome TAMA double pumpers leadin it on. No Graphix yet. the drums themselves where white that blended to purple at the top. On an older note, If anyone is interested in older material, I have a bootleg video of the Foundations Forum show from just before Awake came out. I will be getting a PO box soon and I'll be happy to get it to you when that happens. I am not asking for any money, all I am asking ind a video tape, and return postage for that tape. I'll post when I get the PO box set up. BTY, I personaly recorded this show from the camera riser at the back of the ballrom, so I was above the crowd (big plus). the audio is very good too, considering that it was cone on a small Camcorder. darksider email_address_removed ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Dec 1996 03:19:38 -0800 From: Mike Backof To: email_address_removed Subject: Birch Hell, Jam 2112, Engine Lights, ACK! Message-ID: Hello Jammers, Jam 2112 happened. Not much else I can say there. Thanks Kevin for the account of our trip to Birch Hill. There for a while I figured that we would eventually end up in New York City. Neither of us we doing a great job at navigating on route 9. We missed the hotel, the club, and the correct TGIF. How many K-mart plazas with TGIFs can one town have? I've necided never to move to New Jersey. I'd rather stand naked shouting racial obscenities in the Bronx. Jug-handles are certainly tools created by Satan to waste valuable time. I bet people in Jersey spend at least four days out of the year in total time sitting at lights in the jug-handles. Toll-roads are also inherently evil. Maryland may not be the best state in the USA, but at least you can correct directional errors without too much hassle. I was impressed that Kevin was still thanking toll collectors for taking our money at 4AM on Sunday. I would have been fed up by that point. Hello to everyone who we ran into at the TGIF. BTW Kevin and I were the two guys who came in at about 7:30PM, Kevin was in Red Wings garb, I was the extremely tall guy in the trenchcoat, black jeans, and black Ytsejam sweatshirt. We annexed the table next to all of the jammmers, much to the dismay of the hostess. I think Birch Hill was one of the worst places to see a concert. I've seen about 100 concerts in about 50 venues, and this place was the shits. It was way too small. I think they should have moved the concert out to the deck bar. I was waiting for the announcer man to yell, "Live sex all night, on the deck bar!" Just to get some people out there. The driveway to Birch Hill was like driving through the craters of the moon. A Tercel could fall completely into some of the smaller ones. And the large ones! I'm going to need to hear more of the new material to get an appreciation for it. I wanted to hang around and meet the band but I was tired as hell and everyone else seemed to be hanging around, so that meant it wasn't likely that I'd get to meet anyone. Kevin and I split back to Maryland. I got back to grandma's at 5AM. I left my keys in the house, since I planned to get a hotel room and not come back until later on Sunday. So I couldn't get into my car to drive home. My grandparents had a key buried in the lawn so I had to find that at 5AM so I didn't have to wake them up. Fortunately I found it and got the car keys. Drove home and got to bed at 6AM Sunday. ACK! Some long crazy trip. Kevin could probably sleep on the way back, his car didn't need him to hit the accelerator. Hello to Kevin, Jason, Steve, Skadz, Ibanez, Syrinx, and everyone else whom I met and am forgetting. The discography guy is signing off and going to get some sleep. The never ending quest for finding a job needs to continue tommorrow!
