Entertainment is supposed to begin at about 9:00. I believe that they will be either the first or second band to play. Devine Regale is a band which supposedly sounds *exactly* like (you guessed it) DT. I had ordered one of their disks about four months ago but, alas, it has not arrived yet, so I do not know to what degree this is true. Will not accept any responsibility if this claim is total horse shit. But anything remotely close should be worth checking out. Only five bucks. Let a little fresh air into your wallet and check them out. When will my WDATU arrive ?????? Being that the people I hang out with the most are pretty much a bunch of hippie freaks (my best friend and his then-fiancee followed the Dead around the US for an entire summer a couple years ago), I'm quite familiar with Phish; a bunch of my friends even traveled from here (Norfolk, VA) to see them in New Orleans. They've been hailed as the Dead of the 90s, and to my shock, even my *parents* had heard of them. I was supposed to go see them in Hampton over Thanksgiving weekend after the aforementioned best friend said he'd buy my ticket if I went. Due to complications that were all his fault, I ended up not going. I kind of wish I had; I've been to quite a few alternative shows since I came to college, and I enjoy the atmosphere; it's completely different from that at metal shows - it's very laid back. I like Phish quite a bit. Not to the point where I've started borrowing my friends' bazillion CDs and bootleg shows, but I enjoy listening to them when I'm at parties or just hanging out. No, they're not metal by a long shot, nor do they play mind-bogglingly brilliant and technical material, but they do some great jams that are great for just kicking back and relaxing - whether you're tokin' on a bong or completely sober. If you're openminded enough to listen to something other than prog rock or metal, I'd recommend that you check them out. Just my 2 pfennigs on the subject... I agree with the "progressive" definition of Phish! Sure they have a lot less distortion than the bands we talk about, but their musicianship and especially the way they play off each other is phenomenal! If anybody gets the chance to see them live, it's well worth the money (great music and about 3hours worth!) If you decided to give them a listen, DO NOT get Hoist!!! Then someone complained about all the young jammers. So, who is the oldest jammer on the list? It's true, there is an article in the back of guitar world on Norweigen black metal. Not only did Mayhem's bassist kill the guitar player but he boiled the brains and offered them to the rest of the band. Most of the other members of the band is also in jail for defacing churches, etc. There was also a band here in Denver who's bassist told the band he was going to rape a girl, and he did. The rest of the band is having to testify against him, which should be rough judging on how tight friends in bands are. This is pretty scary. There are some sound bytes on WDADU that are not understandible on my CD because of the poor sound quality. Is anyone able to hear them? Better yet, does anyone know where they are from? I have loved sound bytes ever since the ones I heard on Dark Side of the Moon. Actually those are just people talking, but they sound very spooky when mixed in the background like that. Anyone from Denver planning to see the Psychodelic Zombiez at the Mercury on April 15 or 16? Great band. Great sense of jazz and all other forms of music. It's all just opinion anyway, based on your bias of interpretion of a good or a sh*t player, but the fact remains that any monkey with fingers and a guitar can play something on the thing. Just like the dictionary, you can understand all these concepts and still not be able to write music that anyone would want to listen to.
