Now, this is my second post to the Jam this month, so don't let me come across as self-indulgent. I got to see Satch play at Deep Ellum Live in Dallas on the 20th. You are right, Joe is a madman...and one HELL of a guitarist. My girlfriend actually thinks that Joe is cute without hair. His entire band is SOOOO tight! Stu really held back for most of the first part of the concert...but when he got his chance to solo....Whew!!! He didn't do the Peanuts theme in Dallas...rather he played the best rendition of the Star Spangled Banner I've ever heard (of course, that is the one song that Hendrix performed that I never cared for much). I forgot my earplugs for the concert...and I ended up on the front row about 10 feet from Joe's parachute pants and about 3 feet from the left PA stack. My ears felt like they were going to bleed....and it was worth it! BTW...I wore one of the Jason "T-Stretch" Allen ytsejam t-shirts to the concert and about 5 people stopped me so that they could read it and give me a big thumbs up! Keep on 'jamming! Message-ID: Ben, I know he plays the By Demons Be Driven DRUM PART! I was just talking about the guitar and bass riff FROM THAT SONG that he played along with...you probably just read my post wrong. The sample he played with was a drum trigger. And as far as the Metropolis and Learning to Live sequences go...they are 5:05-5:16 and 5:30-6:26 respectively...although I must correct myself on what they are...Metropolis is a double part between hi-hat and timbale...whereas in Learning To Live, there is a double track with toms (him on the kit) and a cylindrical shaker which I can't remember the name of at this moment. Anyways...the drumming is still cool as hell! Thrak ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Mar 1996 14:05:22 -0500 (EST) From: "Christopher R. I would say there are probably more White Lion albums out there than DT albums. White Lion albums are infinitely easier to find than DT ones. And at the time they were pretty big, with posters, reviews in mags, etc... they are also one of the bands whose music has survived the times: given a choice between Poison or White Lion I'd pull out the White Lion albums any day. More non-DTC: Picked up the new Paradise Lost album last night (Draconian Times). Pretty cool stuff so far I have to admit. My best description of them would be very similar to Type-O Negative except maybe with a bit better songwriting, little less industrial, more power metallish. Haven't listened to it more than about twice through, but my initial impression is it's pretty good stuff. What do you think is the highest note that LaBrie hits in Awake? I say "Innocence Faded" when he says "Not intending to end" Secondly, what exactly makes a song "Progressive?" I've heard at times someone say something like "Megadeth has a prog song" What exactly does this mean? Just to throw my 2 cents in on the bass issue. Even though I drum and don't play bass, Ellefson of Megadeth has never impressed me on any of the albums. Myung impresses me. But I am surprised that no Death fans have spoken up about Steve DiGiorgio. If any of you bassists or whatever want to be truly blown away by bass-work, pick up one of Death's old albums, particularly "Individual Thought Patterns" P.S. I see Barney Greenway of Napalm Death in the special thanks a lot. Any jammers like 'em? I am a HUGE fan, although I don't think that they are progressive. P.P.S. Sorry about starting the White Lion thing. P.P.P.S. Can someone tell me how to respond to single messages? Sorry I am relatively new here. Weaker snare hit = less of a tension increase in >the drum head = different period of oscillation of the drum head = >different frequecy = different pitch. The physics classes I've taken have finally panned out! Sorry man, but that's not quite right. Amplitude is independent of frequency. Meaning, the harder you hit a drum, a tuning fork, a guitar string or anything else, the louder it's going to be, but it's still going to give you the same pitch. It's just going to be louder. Whack a tuning fork hard and you get whatever pitch it is. Just tap it and it's the same pitch, just a lot softer. The same holds true for a drum head. - And on another note, about that chain letter thing... If you've considered trying it, ponder this. 2 years ago, I got that exact same type of letter. For a while I thought about doing it, but then I started hearing people's reaction to it and decided to back out. The fact is, if these things worked the way that guy said it would, then over 2 years, exponentially, the letters would be completely flooding the net by now. Every other letter you receive would be a chain letter. Newsgroups would only have chain letters in them. Guess what? That hasn't happened! Why? Because people who post these things get tracked down and have their accounts removed. Also, not everyone who gets these letters responds to them. Add it all up and you'll probably get three bucks back, while finding your e-mail account has been relinquished. Still sound fun? Work - give it a try. Neat comment. Ben posted anagrams "courtesy of Main Sanitary Nag," which I translated as either "Insanity Anagram" or "Anagram Insanity." I thought that was pretty cool. Then Chris Merlo e-mailed me yesterday with the address at which I could view the pictures that I mailed him. I checked 'em out, and decided to explore his page while I was there. Now what did I stumble across, but an Anagram Generator. Strangely enough, it was called "Main Sanitary Nag," which translated itself as "Anagram Insanity." Fancy that. Life's little coincidences, I tell ya... Yes I made up those anagrams myself, Scotcher. Heck, I tried "David The Magical Kobayashi" on that website and it came up with ZERO. Here I am with about forty possibilities on my own, several of which I posted. So are you telling me that everyone gets their anagrams from this website? You made me sit here and grind anagrams out of my brain, when there was a machine that could do it for me? Is this site where Ben Laussade gets all his anagrams?
