For anyone that digs CD-Rom technology, the new 2-CD Queensryche, "Promised Land," is really cool. They describe it as Myst meets "A Hard Day's Night." Check it out, it's worth the money. craig ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Mar 1996 23:22:25 EST From: "RESPONSE at IBMMAIL 03/20/96 - 04:21:41" To: email_address_removed Subject: Mail Item Format Warning Message-ID: The mail item that you sent at 04:22:19 GMT on 20 Mar 1996 has been delivered. DREG Records is planning to release a compilation CD featuring unsigned progressive bands of the internet. below is the information about submitting your bands material. DREG Records http://www.kandu.com/dreg/ ..and don't forget to check out another Prog band, Facade: http://www.kandu.com/dreg/facade.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The DREG Progressive Bands of the Internet Compilation Album Submission Guidelines: - Submission deadline is April 15. - Material should be original, copyrighted, and preferably in the "progressive" style. Since the definition of "progressive" is varied, don't be afraid to submit even if you're not sure. - Bands, solo acts and studio projects are all eligible. Most solo acts submit under a band pseudonym. - You can submit any number of songs you want, but if it's more than three (3), be sure to note your top three (3) preferences in order. In all likelyhood, only one song per band will be used. - For evaluation, you can send any format (except vinyl...). for the final product, we will need (in order of preference) either CD-R, DAT or VERY high quality tape. Final submissions must be "releasable quality" which can range from hi quality home recordings to studio masters. - If you're not sure about the quality of your submission, send it anyway; you'd be surprised what some fancy mastering can do. - Submissions are NOT returned. DO NOT SEND YOUR MASTERS FOR SUBMISSIONS. If your submission is selected and you haven't already sent your best copy or master, we will then ask you for a master which WILL be returned if you send us a Self Addressed, Postage Paid envelope. - There's no set limit on song time lengths, but the idea is to get as many bands involved in this as possible, so don't screw yourself by only submitting a twenty minute song. - There will be a small, yet-to-be-determined royalty based on units sold. If your band is selected to be included, you will received a simple contract which explains the details of all this. Accepted bands are NOT committed to DREG Records in any way. - It's a good idea to do a trademark search on your band name. A few of the band names already submitted sounded familiar... - Make sure to include the phone # and address of a single contact person along with your submission. - Approximate Time frames: March/April - band selection and notification April/May - contracts and other details May/June - mastering, artwork June/July - duplication July - release Send your submissions to: DREG Records Attn: Compilation CD 1912 Old Stonemill Drive Cranbury, NJ 08512 any questions or comments: email_address_removed ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Mar 1996 09:32:40 -0500 (EST) From: "Christopher R. First, I'm in Denver (Wed. nite) on business and need a place to see some good rock music tonight. Anyone? Beuhler? Lemme kno you Denver Jammers! Also, I can't believe I didn't bring this up last year. The John Myung "noodling" piece on Subcon. really is bad. I know he plays bass, but I figured he'd be a better guitar player than this piece shows. Maybe he is. What I can't understand is that it had been mistaken for a Petrucci warm-up! Yikes!!! Finally, regarding college radio. I worked for three years at WPGU 107.1 ("Rocka nd roll until the cows come home" <- my sidekick and I got busted for partaking in juvenile humor and leaving off the last word) while at the University of Illinois. It still is only one of eight commercial radio station run completely by college students. Though we had a crappy play list (crappy in the fact that it was a play list, not the music), we had some more freedom than other station. We even had the full length specialty shows, etc. The Saturday Night Special was all requests/anything we wanted to play. At the constant begging of one of my friends, I played "In-a-godda-da-vida" (Iron Butterfly, 1969?, 17 min.) twice in a row!! Talk about TOO much freedom. BTW, the song was written "In the garden of eden" but the singer was too damn drunk during the recording. True story. Took me kinda by surprise when it happened. I was listening to Magic 105 in Little Rock, Arkansas... it was probably after midnight when it came on... I told my younger brother, 'Hey, I've heard this before...' thinking it was the Deep Purple version. Then I stopped to listen, noticed it was live, noticed it was LaBrie singing and the rest of the boys in the background. Surprised me quite a bit, but it was kinda cool. Now if only the radio stations will play DT songs instead of DT covering other people's songs. :) On another note: last night I saw Tesla live... wow... If you are a fan of good ole' rock-n-roll from some guys that know how to jam definitely check this show out. Only four guys on stage (did they lose Tommy Skeoch?), but they rocked... Frank Hannon gained my respect last night. Frank is no Petrucci, but he can play nonetheless... he's a bit eccentric though, playing with his teeth, behind his head, etc... :) DrX -- aka Death /-------------------------------------------------------------------------\ | It is against the law for a monster to enter the corporate | | limits of Urbana, Illinois. | \-------------------------------------------------------------------------/ \------ Ed : email_address_removed, email_address_removed ---------------/ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Mar 1996 17:13:50 -0400 From: email_address_removed To: email_address_removed Subject: Acos Video Message-ID: Hey..ive also thought about a video for ACoS..but my ideas are kinda difrent..ive thought about using the same sunset/sunrise image they printed on the cd itself..and makin like the clouds going by like in fast motion..like going from that oragne kinda color into a dark night color..and i loved that "band in tuxedo " idea..but not carying a coffin..thats way to much like Novermber Rain...and in the end having the father sitting with his son watching a breathtaking scene..and some flowers withering..al sorts of cool stuff..all this mixed up with some footage of the band playing..and i still think the sound is a Tie Fighter (heeh) im watching too much Star Wars arent I?
