New subscriber here, and I'd like info on obtaining the WDATU disc, as well as any other "rare" recordings (please email me at email_address_removed). Any Jammers going to the Galactic Cowboys show at the Troubador in Hollywood on April 5? Look for me wearing the "Awake" tour tshirt. Should be a real hot show. "Machine Fish" is a really good disc; however, I think that "Space in Your Face" is their best. Even the first disc has some killer tunes. Regarding Judas Priest, I saw in their web page that Scott Travis will be playing drums on the upcoming '96 release; they haven't decided on a singer yet. As far as the west coast Ytsecon goes, either San Francisco or Vegas would be fine; Vegas is more decadent so I leans towards that city (how about at the Hard Rock Hotel?) Jam on! Now, all I need is to start calling different hotels and convention centers in, say, Old Bridge or Woodbridge. But, do you think there could be any package deals, like a plane ticket/ticket to YtseCon/hotel room for a certain amount of money for the out-of-staters? That would be great and I think it would promote more people to come (if there can be discounts). Also, I pondered the idea of sponsers for awhile, but that would make this convention too commercialized (and it wouldn't be an Internet event anymore). But, let me know what you guys think, okay? Message-ID: OK....A lengthy post from MojoMan... Poison, Warant or Whatever: ********************************* This disgusts me...it really does...the trends in music change. period!!!!!!!! Bands like Poison, or Warant were on top of the world 8 years ago. They dictated what the MTV, Radio, and concert world did. Obviously, no one can stay on top of the world forever...It's the king of the mountain story...in music. What I have to say is this, I have grown disgusted because of the music we hear nowadays. Music has become raw, which I dont mind...but it has pushed away groups with talent...and forced them into the categories of 'washed up!' This has never happened in the history of music...all music has had an equal representation. (maybe sometimes 'trends' were weighed more than 'non-trends') For the first time, a whole genre of rock was washed out of memory to give birth to a more raw, angry, and painful genre of rock. I hate to say it folks, but although Nirvana, Bush, Soundgarden, Oasis and all these new rock groups sell records nowaday...it's a disgrace that these forms of music(If you dare call some of that rat excrement, music) can't co-exist with more in-depth rock...(poison is not in-depth...but compare any poison song to the **** you will see on MTV nowadays...and its like night and day....) Becareful when you scoff at people who listened to, or still listen to Poison or Warant... Some day your beloved Nirvana will be dead not only physically, but stylistically and economically. Music with a more uplifting, in-depth, self-conscious message will eat alternative music and they will be washed up....I can't wait for the day when I see this...for I will treat every doochebag that reacted to my listing to White Lion or whatever, the same and worse.... I am a huge fan of Warrant. Have ALL their discs. Funny, I feel the same about DT! No need to totally flame someone because they mention Poison or Warrant in the same sentence as DT. People constantly talk about Thought Industry (drift into hypocrisy...NOW!) and I think these guys blow!! Though many a post is dedicated to 'em, nobody's heard a neg. response til now. Even so, the correct response wouldn't be so "off the cuff." Warrant's "Cherry Pie" is sophmoric and crude, but a fun assed song! If you'd bother to listen to their last 2 discs before ranting, you'd find a much more mature band that incorporates various complexities in chord structure, solo performance, time sigs., vocal arrangements and lyrics. They haven't been running in place like Winger (another of my favorite bands!!). I've seen TI in concert and can't grasp why people dig 'em. But they do. C'mon, people. Musical Tastes. This seems to come up every couple of months here. I bet if you got a list together of every band that every jammer listened to, you would have such a huge list with so much variety, it would cover almost ever band out there. I know I listen to lots of different kinds of music, as do alot of jammers. So, since you listen to different music from DT/progrock doesn't make you less of a fan, it just makes you someone with a variety of tastes. Just from talking to some people from the jam at the Christmas shows and on IRC, I know that alot of people listen to some of the bands I listen to and some hate them, but it's just an opinion. Most people would be scared when they saw my CD/tape collection. I mean, I have so many different groups from so many different genres it isn't funny. So, people have different tastes. The common bond we have here is that we are all in to DT and at the same time, most of us like a variety of other progressive bands, but at the same time, alot of us don't JUST listen to progrock, but that doesn't make us any less of a DT fan.
