Someone had mentioned on a previous jam that there would be a clinic and I would like to attend. Personally I think MP is the greatest drummer to come out. I would like to here some of his secrets and see some of his techniques to improve my drumming. My ultimate goal is to play as good as him. I know I have a long way to go but it could happen some day. It's happened 3 times in a row. I was lying there in bed (swearing, because my damn skin was inside out), and I'd just started listening to "Awake". By the end of "6:00", I was fast asleep. That was just an afternoon snooze. When I went to bed again that night, I put on "Awake" again, because I'd slept through it earlier. Once again, I was fast asleep by the end of "6:00". This morning, when I woke up, I played the CD yet again, but I skipped "6:00". I have been Awake ever since :-) I think Aunt Kate and Mary Jane have been implanting subliminal messages into my poor defenceless brain. Definitly awesome. I was highly impressed by Blaze. God if you were far enough from the stage you couldn't even tell that it wasn't Bruce.(looks wise....singing was close but not that close). I was right up front in the pit and even that close the sound was clear. As far as having Eddie on stage, the place where I saw them(Electric Factory, this place is huge) could have definitly fit a giant Eddie, the ceiling has got to be at least 500 feet high. So I was wondering why he didn't make an appearance. But then I heard that they were playing the Birch Hill a few days later and realized why Eddie sat out this tour. I mean James practically had to bend over on the stage at that place. Anyway if Maiden comes your way, definitly check them out. Don't be discouraged by Bruce not being with them anymore like most of my friends did. They are kicking themselves now for missing such a kick ass show. Now for the DTC.....I was wondering how I could get my hands on a tape of the Birch Hill show. That show will be one that I would never forget but definitely like to relive. If anyone has any info as to how I could get a copy please e-mail me at email_address_removed. Thanx. Thsi is a copy of the post I sent privatelt to Ben regarding his idea about the Dream Theater cover C.D. Hiya Ben! Yes you can layer tracks (if you have access to a 4 track or studio time {$40 per hour) I'd love to lay some bass tracks, but how about this: what avbout taking DT's lyrics and reinterpreting the songs. They would most likely be simpler than the originals but wouldn't it be cool to have Pull Me Under as Raggae, the Take The Time rap, Surrounded with a fiddlin country band, The Killing Hand death metal! I know alot of closed minded DT purists would cry "sacrialge!" and barbacue me balls, but I think it would be a fantastic way to show our respect and appreciation for our favorite band. We could have a C.D. made called "Strawberry and Ytse Jam-a Tribute to Dream Theater". I'm serious about this. What do you think? Cheers! I think dream Theater would like this more than their fans just copying their songs note for note (I hate playing cover songs but I love writing my own) Muchas Gracias! email_address_removed Seth Hatlelid "Never shave while reading your email! So now my whole guitar rig is complete once again! So then I got my mail -- cards and money from the grandparents! People, always remember -- grandparents rule!! So then I went to work from 6:30 to midnight, and when I got home, I basically had eleven people in my room and there were balloons and streamers and cake and everything!! And what did my two best buddies get me for my B-Day? JP's instructional video!! (DTC) They know me too well... So basically it was a very pleasant day! One of my best birthdays ever! So then today I get a big ass package in the mail -- my best friend, Stacy (Elliot and Doug M. know her...), sent me a skateboard!! (long story) Wacky! Anyway, I'm very sorry to have wasted all this space with other-than-DT stuff, because I know there are Mail Item Format Warnings you all could be reading right now... :) Damon, Your band doesn't want keyboards anymore? Ta hell wit 'em!! I just so happen to be putting a band together and I could use a good keys man.... :) And I can guarantee that the music is cooler than the shit those guys were peddling! I had never heard him before, just heard OF him, so I thought, "why not check it out?" To anyone who's thinking of seeing him play: the man likes it loud. I could hear his THUNDEROUS setup outside while parking the car. I didn't even have to walk inside, just sort of lean one direction and let the vibrating earth shift me there. And there Tony stood, alone on a stage, two towers of amps on either side of him. The show gave me a good massage standing in the back, I couldn't imagine what the people up front were feeling. He did several tapping techniques that went from the 22nd-high-e fret all the way down to the 3rd-low-e fret, little two-second blurs executed perfectly every time. He even added the little Reb Beach vibrato-flourish where you leave your right hand hanging as your left does a hard vibrato on the last note. He was a real friendly fellow, mentioning Chopin as one of his influences, saying he had recorded a few of the etudes on his albums. I wasn't familiar with MacAlpine's music, but this statement pricked up my ears. The only question I asked him was, "Do you still ever play the etudes?" to which he answered, "Oh yeah, all the time. I still practice." Now, I had never even seen the guy before that day, but that one fact of his discipline and ability was enough to gain my respect as a musician. > I highly recommend checking him out.
