John..shit, first it was Randy Rhods vs Eddie...I think Randy won frankly but never had the chance to prove it, although his legacy he left behind, damn, my vote is for Randy...then it was Eddie vs Satriani at one point and Satch Vs.Vai and then Hammster, I mean Hammet vs. Friedman and then Hammet vs. eddie and then Hammet vs. the rest of the world..Actually, I was kinda wondering why no one had talked about JP bein comapred to the likes of those guys. Its a thread now..who's better...2 different styles frankly, A little Hard to judge. I'd have to go with JP. I don't think VH is much of a challenge for JP but who knows, 2 great guitarists. What about the guys in Fates Warning Or Queensyrche Vs JP...there's a tuff choice. THIS IS JUST A RE-POST OF THE ORIGINAL AVAILABILITY ADVERTISEMENT FOR NOSTALGIA PURPOSES. -begin- Dream Theater "SUBCONSCIOUS" and project CDs infofile 2/1/95 Hi! This is a general information notice about the Dream Theater "Subconscious" CD and other special limited edition Ytsejam-only CDs I will be making available in the months to come. This is in answer to all the requests for more information and the like from the list. I, humble Mike Bahr, and some of my buddies here in Arizona, busted our wallets and pressed our VISAs to the limit because we thought it would be a good idea to have a CD burner. It does Audio CDs and CDROM. Tests have indicated to us that it's a bitch to use, but does work well and can be used to make some EXTREMELY collectable CDs for the list itself. > Turns out it didn't work worth shit, and I had to rent studio time and > equipment to do the job. You live and you learn. How am I being compensated for this? Well I plan to put the profit (such as it will be... as I will run a very narrow margin on these) toward paying for the burner. The very miniscule profit from the Rush Video Montage from earlier in 1994 was sufficient to pay for the second hifi VCR I had bought to do the duplicating with. I figured that the only way to be able to make this sort of special edition stuff available to Ytsejam would be to take a huge risk and hope that their fandom was for real. Well as it turns out, your fandom is MORE than real! I will begin production on the first special DT CD "Subconscious" near the end of 2/95. I will be posting periodic notices to Ytsejam about when to pay and when to expect delivery. Hang onto your money for now as I am not yet ready to start spinning discs. > It was released on April 3rd. Subconscious covered costs after about 370 > copies were sold, and I put the rest toward Cygnus and Acoustic Dreams. Since this is a privately financed project, I will be making a single production run of (it now appears) roughly 500 discs. They will never be produced again, and they will have jewel boxes and case liners of course. I am not Kiss The Stone or Metal Crash, so it may not LOOK quite as spiffy as some boots, but this will be the best, easily. Here's a preliminary track listing... the final product will differ little, if at all: (some of these, I have found nearly FIRST gen copies of!!) > Of the below, ($) means it wound up on Sub, (%) on Antiquities, (@) on > Scenes From A Memory, (^) on Acoustic Dreams, (&) on WDATU, > and (#) means it never made it onto a CD. A Change of Seasons (live from 1993 with James on vocs)$ OR: A Change of Seasons (demo, instrumental) or (demo, C.Cintron on vocals)@ To Live Forever (acoustic version) (James on vocs)$ O Holy Night (C. Dominici on vocals)$ Don't Look Past Me (J. Hendricks on vocals)$ Eve (with samples, live)$ Wanted Dead or Alive (cover of BJ with Kev's roommate on vocals)$ Tears (cover of Rush from the upcoming covers gig in London)$ Mission: Impossible$ The Gorilla Session Jam$ The Silent Man/Another Day (acoustic versions from a radio thing)^ Those are GOING to be on it, 90% certainty. Other possible tracks, depending totally on room-on-the-disc and so forth, are: To Live Forever# Eve# Lie (radio edit)# Caught In a Web (re)# Pull Me Under (re)# Take The Time (re)# Take The Time (demo version)# To Live Forever/Heavy Jam (live instrumental)& Status Seeker (Broon remix)# Afterlife (Broon remix)# Metropolis (demo version)# To Live Forever (Hendricks on vocals)# The Golden Weight$ A LOT of these may be held over until another disc, and/or more covers from the London gig may find themselves on either CD. Still forthcoming when Subconscious is finished is When Dream And James Unite, the live CD of WDADU with James on vocals. In a large way, Subconscious will be financing WDAJU. I expect WDAJU to sell far more copies and to be less rare than the totally collectible Subconscious, and as such the price will doubtless go down a shade. > The irony in that paragraph is startling. WDA_T_U is still shipping > (though it already has out-sold Subconscious) and Subconscious is one of, > if not _THE_ most collectible Dream Theater rarities. Okay now for the details. I'll post ordering info to Ytsejam just before production begins. I am taking reservations now, limit 5 copies per person. Limit on production is 500 copies. Currently 310 reserved. The price will be US$27.50. I am paying shipping and such. I can ship to any country for no increase in price. > I wound up dropping the price to $25 and adding international postage > because most of the orders were from the USA. However with every CD, > the number of international orders has increased. I want to close by saying two things: I really admire the dedication to this band shown by the members of Ytsejam... truly if anyone deserves a shot at this CD, you guys 'n girls do. Thank you for making this project a success almost before I even began. Secondly, stay tuned to Ytsejam for more information as it becomes available!! Thanks!!
