DT & Rush together Someone on a.m.r newsgroup posted that they called Atlantic and the label confirmed that this studio album and one live album after it will be the end of Rush. Geddy wants to wrap up this part of his life and spend time with his family. So all of you fans of Rush and guys who gave up on them because of the quality of recent albums come out for old time's sack on this tour. It would be a great way to end the career of Rush to go out with Dream Theater opening and maybe if Dream Theater is still touring with them for the whole tour, the DT guys could play a duet with Rush at their last show. A "passing of the torch" so to speak. All of them could get on stage and they could play La Villa Strangiato and --> into Learning to Live with Geddy and John Myung side by side, Petrucci/ Lifeson trading licks, Neil and Mike on double kits, Derek on keys, and James LaBrie wailing away as fireworks launch into the sky. Freakin awesome sight that would be. OK, back to reality. 2. Whoever came up with the DT drinking game list could be on the verge of outdoing Bafu Vai. I expect Bafu to mount a comeback at any moment. I just want to get something off my chest about this DT and Rush tour talk. I've only seem DT once (during Awake) and it was at the Newport in Columbus, OH. It holds about 2,000 or so I think. Anyways, it was general admission and I was in the front row in front of Myung the whole show. I'm afraid that if DT tours with Rush we may not be able to get so close to the gods. I think it's been fairly easy to meet the guys, too, but I'm not sure about that if they were on this monster tour. However, I guess I'm just being selfish. I suppose that DT would gain a lot of new fans, so that's good. My opinion. My wife Heather and I are expecting our first child any day now. Her official due date is actually March 8th, but she says she can sense the baby coming very, very soon. False labor has become almost an everyday occurrence, and she feels "different" all of a sudden... so it sounds like the little guy is getting ready to make his big appearance. :) Yes, it is a boy, and his name is Alexander Evan Hochberg. I can't describe to you all how excited I am that I'm about to become a daddy! When the big day comes, I will of course announce the good news here on the 'jam. DTC: Even though my wife doesn't much care for DT's music, she knows they're my all-time favorite band, and she actually does appreciate their originality and stellar musicianship (she's simply turned off my most heavy music, that's all). Anyway, I'm pleased to announce that I am officially "allowed" to expose our son to DT, at a reasonably quiet volume level (of course), in the car, on my way to and from the babysitter's house. ;) I consider this to be quite a victory. I really want Alex to be exposed to a wide variety of different styles from the get-go, and hopefully he'll develop a relatively advanced understanding of music at an early age. I REFUSE to stunt his artistic development by singing along with a godforsaken purple dinosaur 24 hours a day. ;) So I'm coming up with ideas for different mix tapes for the little guy to listen to. I'm trying to be eclectic, but not TOO wild. In other words, "challenging," but not overly wierd. Mr. Bungle is probably a little too freaky. Enya juxtaposed with Napalm Death would also be a no-no. :) Any suggestions? Surely there must be some other parents on the 'jam who could offer some advice, particularly in the jazz and "classic" prog departments. I'm no slouch in the DJ'ing department, mind you, but any suggestions you feel like passing along would certainly be all the more helpful. Thanks! I will admit that Balance was a slight change for VH but he still is doing the tap-hammer-roll routine. Check out guitar tabs and see for yourself. Look at the difference between JP's solos and EV's. And i have to disagree with your top 5. I dont like top five lists on the jam but i really have to put this one down. (1. JP 2. Satriani 3. Malmsteen 4. Vai 5. Stevie Blaze) I've had the EV vs. every other guitarist on the planet with my friend Brian who is a die hard VH fan. It just goes in circles.....he uses arguements like....who's more popular or who's been around longer.....and i say so? Popularity doesnt mean shit if you are good or not. Popularity means you won the political game in the music business. Come on now. It's time for Eddie to do something new.
