Cashman" To: email_address_removed Subject: Bad Traders listing Message-ID: This is a great idea, but whoever starts it should try to keep a few things in mind: 1) for each person listed, include a "history" section showing who traded with them, the amount (or equivalent in merchandise) lost, dates, and as much specific information as possible. 2) Try to keep it from becoming a bash-fest. It's possible the listing could include people who -- through no fault of their own -- were unable to respond to trades. (Car wrecks, injuries, etc.) There are obvious criminals out there, but in some cases "bad trading" could just be "bad luck." People will take the list much more seriously if it looks professional and isn't just a bunch of bashing......plus, what if you were doing trades, got in an accident, and then found yourself on this big hate list? Avoid libel; just include the facts and let potential traders judge for themselves. I think a professionally-handled list like that would be a GREAT resource if handled well. -- Seen my diary on the newsstand | Paul W. Message-ID: Dear Jammers: Disclaimer: I was very tired when I wrote this so do the best you can --- Maybe Kevin's equipment logos were deliberatly covered up because he bought it out of pocket, meaning he wasn't paid to endorse the keys he preferred to use. So why advertise for free. I'd be the same way. Now Mike P. is a different story, he switched from TAMA to Mapex and it was acknowledged in the liner notes of "Awake". I could be mistaken on this. It was just a thought. About Scarred: Remember what I told you guys/girls a few months ago about the complexity of Scarred? DT are good musicians but I think Scarred is strictly a studio piece. Someone said in a recent jam when they talked to Mike P. he said that the last time they played it was in the studio. They got in over their heads on that one. I'll see if I can find my earlier post on that subject and throw it out here again. That is one heck of a song and piece of music. BTW, it's probably my fave on Awake. So much emotion, so much of it hits "close to home" for me. About personnel changes: James is arrogant and needs to read the book "How to Win Friends and Influecne people" but he's an integral part of DT, he stays. Now Derick on the other hand, I'm still wondering if he can add that special something that currently distinguishes DT from other metal bands. I really liked Kevin. But to do away with keys? Absurd! Add a rhythym guitarist, again absurd. Maybe add some percussion flunkee like me to fill in on Met pt. 1 and some other songs :). Responding to and earlier post(s) Mike Bahr: (in ">" ) Chris Oats (in ">>" ) >> From: Chris Oates >> Subject: My last public words on religion >> The discussion >> would also die out quickly if the religious nuts wouldn't expect it as their >> right to rub their religion in our noses without a response. It sounds to me like you're under conviction from God (meaning you have not yet made the decision in include Jesus in your day to day life) to be so vehemently opposed to remarks made about God/Christ on this list. I know others share your view but a minority gauging from the number and type of responses I get to my posts. >> After all, >> it's part of their belief to "convert the non-believers" right? feh. > NO, NO, a thousand times no. The only MAJOR religions that actually go around trying to >force you to be a part of it are Mormonism, Jehovah's Witnesses, and >Evangelical variants of Protestantism. Well Mike I agree about the Mormons and JWs, its actually a part of their doctrine to go door to door and spread the Gospel to attain a certain status for lack of a better word in their congregations, although the aforementioned are cults and their doctine strays from what the Bible teaches. To you I must fall into the category of one of the variants of Protestantism because if I feel when I meet someone and the time is right or the ask me I'll tell them that Christ has a plan for my life and assure them they're in His plans too bur they have to be willing to recieve. "If you light a lamp do you hide it under a table? By no means you would place it on the table so the whole room would benefit from the light" My paraphrase taken from one of the first four books in the NT. >(not all!) Most forms of >Protestantism (and there are dozens of them), all forms of Catholicism >and Orthodox Christianity, and scores of other religions do not "rub >their religion in your noses". I try to be as careful as I can be when it comes to discussing Christ to non-believers. Before I became a Christian there were people rubbing "it" into my nose and it made me feel that I was inferior and could never know Christ because I wasn't "religious" enough. It's something to be handled with the utmost care and sensitivity. I'm still learning though I believe I've come along way. It's hard to impart this type of knowledge/faith on the net; 1. I'm not a writer or an evangelist, 2. a lot get's lost in translation, you've never met this "nut" face to face and an image is worth a thousand words. ;) > I'm a Roman Catholic. It is NOT a part of my religion that I am >supposed to look down at non-Catholics or non-believers... it is NOT a >part of my religion that I have a duty to "bring them to God". If it >really means a lot to me that a specific person somewhere does not >believe, my religion says I should pray for that person, and try to be as >understanding as possible of their position. Again I disagree Mike, I believe as Christians we have a duty to win people to Christ. I personally feel that it should not be forced i.e., I wait for the Holy Spirit to make an opportunity for me to start a neutral relationship/dialouge with an individual and then go step by step from there. Sometimes it stops before it starts other times a door is opened. >In fact, that's the exact >same language the Pope also used when dealing with the issues of >homosexuality and such. If only he was that understanding on the abortion >issue... it's too polarizing for me to be a part of. But again, to >reiterate: we are taught to appreciate and respect their position. Homosexuality and abortion are clear cut issues IMO, they're black and white, but I'll reserve comment on those issues to stay within the scope of this post. >Do not condemn, do not interfere, and do not insist that >they are doomed to hell. Pray for them in private, on your own time, and >try to be a good friend when you can. That's it. In other words "hate the sin, love the sinner", yes I agree with you Mike. > Incidentally, most branches of Christianity do _not_ believe that >non-believers are headed straight to hell. In the modern doctrine, the only way >one can be sent to hell is to come into the fullness of knowing Christ and >his forgiveness for us, and to still reject even _that_. Oh Mike, where did you get that idea? The latter part of that statment is partially true. The book of Hebrews in the NT speaks of coming into the fullness of Christ and then rejection at that point is damning. In my reading and understanding I believe that there's NOT an out just because one chooses to not seek knowing God through believers or praying or failure to read the Bible. Again any more discussion on this exceeds the intent of this post. >And we're not supposed to even get a shot at it until after we die, so it's not >something that's any of our business to press upon other people. We won't get another "shot at it" that is salvation after death. I'm sure you've heard this before; "if someone's house was on fire wouldn't you feel compelled to run in and try to save those inside as opposed to letting them perish without warning?". I make it my business when I have the opportunity to warn people of the impending danger if I didn't I guess that would mean I didn't love them. "Love you neibour as yourself". And that's all I've got to say about that, My momma told me "life's like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get. Just because you believe you've found a higher being to worship doesn't mean that _all_ humans have such a desire. Such generalizations are the downfall of many a religious person's argument when they are trying to convince a non-believer that they are in the wrong. What happens if I state that religion is an attempt to explain the unexplain- able, and that for me right now, I am content if the unexplainable remains unexplained? Why is that wrong? > know there is a higher power. In WFS "God give me the power...." > and there are other references that John P. makes as well. If we > don't nurture our spiritual person we will be spiritually dead. > Just as if we don't take care of our bodies we will die physically. You've got to realize that that's just not a good argument. If I am a happy, productive person who does not rely on the belief of a greater being to be so, that is _not_ analogous to me not taking care of my body. Apples and oranges. When DT writes about god, they are expressing their own beliefs, and in some cases, they are expressing their _doubt_ in religion as well. It's not like they're some progressive Amy Grant singing the merits of Christianity in every song. > For those of you who may think I'm preaching - I'm not, I'm teaching > PLEASE make the distinction. Sorry, but you _are_ preaching, and that's why I had to respond to this message. I disagree with whoever posted the message about Fates that stated their newer stuff is better. All the albums after "No exit " are not really as heavy as i was used to. "No exit" is really good and the earlier stuff with John Arch on vocals has awesome guitar work. His voice can be bothersome when he starts to scream but after a while it rocks. Chasing time is a really good representation of what Fates has done. Among the best songs on Chasing Time are guardian, damnation, prelude to ruin , and the apparition, all of which are sung by Arch. Don't get me wrong, the newer stuff is cool too, its just too mellow for my tastes. Monument is on their newest album "Inside Out" and it is a great song. Some people wear flares, some don't. Some people are religious, some >aren't. Lighten up, dude. Live and let live. All those messages you're >sending actually didn't stick to me for DT content but merely for religious >stuff. This is not the Godjam or anything. If you're right about all this I >will fry in hell. If I am right, however, you will have lived your life a >self-righteous silly person. Most likely, we are both wrong and I will fry >in hell *and* you will actually turn out to have lived your life a silly >person. > Then again, who am *I* to say this? After all, your opinion is as valid as >mine. Just keep your opinion in non-DT related matters *off* the flipping >Digest! I can assure you I will keep my non-religious opinions off the digest >in the future, too. Surely, not a soul is interested in it. > It's just that I was almost getting angry because of all that self-righteous >condescendence. I had to write this and shoot my load. > Allright, but I've only one thing to say to all that, and I want you to really think about it : "Better safe that sorry." (wouldn't you rather show a little respect to God than risk going to hel?) That's all I have to say. What?!?!?!?!? Even if this is true, higher power does not mean the Christian all powerful, bebevolent, all knowing God. It can include a multitude of things. And there are some people who, deep down in their heart, do not believe in a higher power. (My jury is still out) > P.S. Jon do you celebrate Christmas or acknowledge Easter? Christmas I acknowldge for what it has become, a cultural celebration of family and good will towards all men. But it really doesn't have anything to do with God/Jesus for me. Sorry to prolong this stuff on the 'Jam, but I needed to vent my spleen. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- "On the news, a nation mourns you Jonathan Byrne Unknown soldier count the cost.
