If you want to continue, enjoy and possibly learn. If not, please skip. 1. Could we (you) please stop abusing the Jam as a vehicle for evangelizing? If people wish to believe in various deities, idols, stones, rebirthing, karma, totems, altenative universes, UFOs, life after death, etc, let them, but please don't send posts to the Jam with content that attempts to spread these views. True, free speech is constitutionally guaranteed in many countries, as is freedom to choose whatever religion (or lack thereof) you want, but I would consider it to be basic netiquette to keep these things of the Jam, and if you see posts that you want to comment about, then send a personal e-mail to the originator. Otherwise I might be forced to start quoting anti-religious texts, and we wouldn't want that, would we? 2. Ben, the last lyrics questions were just too easy, even for an oldie like myself. Try this one for size: 'Blow it up your ass, motorcycle man!' 3. Bing Crosby *really* did sell over 205,000,000 copies of White Christmas! Some people seem to doubt this - honest, it's true, I counted them all myself. 4. My comments about Rush 2112/1812 Tschaikowsky seem to have confused some people. Humour. I know what 2112 is (even if I never really liked Rush that much). It just freaked me out that both numbers are divisible by 3, so I thought they might be related... (humour again). Wait a minute, so is '6.00'! 5. DT f**k-ups part 27(b): not doing any shows in Europe on this Xmas mini-tour thing. Perhaps they are punishing England for the fact that so many of the best bands come from the UK (stands back and waits for rear-end to be kicked by the YTSEUSers). 6. Is it just chance that the new Beatles album and the Beatles BBC sessions were both released just before Christmas? Has Macca run out of cash again? 7. Does moshing have anything to do with 'moshed potatoes'? Time to go now, see you all next time. stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de) Currently playing: King's X - Dogman ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Nov 1995 10:10:58 -0500 (EST) From: Pat Daugherty To: Dream Theater Subject: Moshing at DT Message-ID: Well on this topic of moshing... I saw DT twice at Hammerjacks in Baltimore. The first time the bouncers were not allowing moshing and in fact were throwing big time moshers out. The second time, there was very little moshing. In fact I think at the first show, (or it might be on a bootleg, I cant remember) James says basically to calm down and dont hurt each other. This shows me that at least James is not a big fan of moshing... I dont think AL BALKEWICZ will ever send me the tapes he has owed me for 9 months. Message-ID: PLEASE LORD!!! TELL ME MY NIGHTMARE ISN'T HAPPENING!! DISCUSSING THE BEATLES ON THE JAM!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't like 'em, never did. The early stuff is trite pop tunes and the later stuff ("I am the walrus"?!?! "Yellow submarine"?!?!?) is WAAAYY too acid laced for me. This whole "phony Beatlemania" (thanx, Clash) is as annoying as the whole Deadhead movement, esp. after Jerry Garcia passed. Whomever posted they like Beatles covers better has a point. There are SOME good tunes, but they are done by others much better. (This is where I put in the "IMHO" to keep the jumpy in their seats). Let it be? Let the hype die! Beavis' Cornholio pops up constantly on their show. I think the best appearance was the cappacino skit. I loved the beatnik poetry he spewed forth. It was most hilarious when Beavis had come down from his high and was himself again, albeit sleepy. One of the dudes in the audience sends up a whole 'nother pot of cappacino to "light fuse and get away." Cornholio returns exhalting, "Are you threatening me?!?!" Finally, I, too am a singer. I've been playing keys since the second grade (20 years) and guitar for 2 years. I can play easy comp. stuff and sing at the same time (a la Counting Crows, "Tears", etc.), but I haven't been able to do riff stuff or intricate strumming and singing at the same time. Whomever said drummers that sing may have the best coordination/concentration could very well be right. It's impressive as hell. The next closest thing might be what Geddy Lee does (sing, keys and bass)!! In the ytsejam digest 1150, L. Jason Hartman stated that he wasn't sure who was more overrated; the beatles, or zepplin. Well, neither one were. The beatles were genuious in their simplicity, and were groundbreaking at the time. However, I do agree that they should let it rest. (by the way, they did the new song by over dubbing new parts to something Lenon had done years ago.) Personally, i don't like most of their music, but i'd never consider them overrated. Secondly, which songs by Zepplin did you hear that gave you the idea that they were overrated? They were the most influencial ROCK band of the 70's, in my opinion. Hell, Dream Theater should cover Kashmir. That would be cool. huh huh, huh huh. Anyway, i'm not trying to flame since this whole conversation is based on opinions, but if you're passing zepplin off as an overrated band, i feel sorry for you.
