Anyway, someone from the band Rush, I think the lead singer (I know the group so little that I don't even know the members of the group) is doing a side project right now. They did not break up. This is just a side project. The Rush member is making an album with members of the group Primus. I don't see how they are related. It should be interesting to hear this record. Anyway, I also heard on the same report that Rush will come out with their next studio album sometime during the spring. Aside from being DT's "signature song" (at least someone got that one), it's my favorite DT song, by far. Every time I hear those opening notes, I feel liquid shadows invade my mind and shimmering spiders scuttle down my spine. I've heard the song a million times and it still doesn't wear on me----and it won't wear on me a after a million times more, kind of like SoR by Rush. Okay, so if you missed it the first time, my idea is for any jammers that are going to any of the shows in December to cooperate together and print out a whole bunch of digests for Mike Portnoy. Someone could volunteer to do jams 1100-1110, another person could print out 1111-1120, etc. Have people gone off and already pulled together a concerted effort or are a bunch of us just printing out jams like crazy? Is anyone printing out ALL the jams, intent on lugging 300 pages of digests to a concert? If you have already printed out a bunch of jams for this purpose, let me know which numbers you have printed out. If you are willing to print out jams, let me know and I can assign you some so Mike won't end up with multiple copies of digests. There is absolutely no need to somehow get these printouts into my hands. If you are going to a show, (or two, or all three), there shouldn't be any reason why you can't give your printouts to him yourself. My efforts at coordinating this are only to help prevent repetition. -------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Nov 1995 16:46:34 -0500 (EST) From: "Hitchcock's Other Eye" To: ytsejaM - Dream Theater Subject: Rush Video Montage: list needed Message-ID: Afternoon folks, Does anyone out there have the complete list (with times) of what is contained on Mike Bahr's Rush Video Montage? I got my copy of Acoustic Dreams in today (11-7). No lenghty review, just that the sound quality is incredible. For those out there still waiting, mine is # 274. A lot of people having been complaining about mtv for good reason. They totally suck. They hardly play any videos whatsoever, and when they do it's usually rap or top 40. Unfortunately, there's nothing that can be done about it. A few years ago, they tried to go to a rock only format, but that didn't work out. If you really want an alternative, your best bet would be to get a satellite so you can watch Canada's Muchmusic. They remind me a lot of what mtv was back in the early 80's. Every mon-thurs they have the Power 30 which is a great show. They also have daily shows called Spotlight where they play :30 of interviews & videos by a single artist. Since I got my DSS about a year ago, I only watch mtv for their Unplugged or when there's a special on that looks good. If anybody out there who did not get a copy of AD, I would be happy to make a dub for you. Please email me personally and we can make arrangements. Message-ID: I can't believe what I just read in ytsejam1108. Mike Bahr, a person whose posts I've always looked forward to reading, is a bigot! I happen to have a half-sister (we have the same father) who is a Sioux Indian, and I can't begin to express my disappointment at that stereotypical "story" he wrote. I have met many American Indians and I have yet to find one that talks in the broken english that the one in the story did. In fact, most of them speak better english than many "whites" that I know. What's next, humorous stories about the holocaust? To give you an example of how Indians are STILL treated in America, my Sister's Mom's Brother (my Sister's Uncle) was playing Basketball when he was stricken with a heart attack. When they called 911, when they found out the guy was an Indian, 911 refused to send an ambulance. A full 45 minutes after the call to 911, they finally got him to a hospital where he died a short time later. Would he have lived if he got medical attention immediately? I don't know. But I do know one thing, if he would have been white, they would have dispatched help immediately. I don't think Mike is a bad guy, I think that if he wants to tell these kinds of stories to his friends, that's one thing. But don't post it to a mailing list of over 1,000 subscribers with 1,000 different personalities and ethnic backgrounds all over the world. Scott Cook It's a shame about Rabin's murder. However, if you are jsut plain lazy, get off of your tuchus and get it. It is an incredible rock opera. Perhaps one of the best out there. I think that there is more to it MUSICALLY than Mind Crime. Note that I emphasized the MUSIC part, and not the lyrics/story part. The songs just get better and better as they go along. The last two songs both have six-part vocal harmony (three different lyrics overdubbed in thirds with themselves). The musical mood of each song fits perfectly with the lyrics, as does the way that the lyrics are sung. It is not a matter of getting past some of the vocals (whoever you are, idiot), rather, a matter of actually reading thge liner notes and the poem (singular) that is divided up between the different songs. When I read the notes, I actually cried for the first time since I dont know when (excluding when I heard the sorrowful news about Yitchak Rabin, bless his soul). Anyhow, This is a definate MUST have for any progressive fan and anyone with a prog radio show (hint hint damon fibraio). I give it two thumbs up and an aural orgasm. So far you are staying cool - it must be the lead - but the loud clunk when you unplug the lifeless plank makes it plainly obvious that the fault lies elsewhere. In desperation you try a new lead anyway - still no sound. Then you remember in a state of cold panic, that because you restrung your guitar yesterday you didn't bother to bring a spare. Fumbling around in a lead bag you find a screwdriver - nervously you remove the control plate to be confronted by a mass of cables and metal objects that resemble upside down saucepans ! Yes ! you have found the broken wire, but what is it and where does it go ? (DT content - Please don't go ) Even if you knew, you haven got any tools or a soldering iron. I'm just a lurker, from a lurker family. Have you gotten the new Queen release, that was put out yesterday? I think that I would recommend, not only to you, but to any dream theater fan, pick up the album Queen II. The music isn't stylistically like Dream Theater, but I feel that it has a similar production ethic - they were putting up an incredible "wall of sound" that they didn't care if it was "appreciated" but is one heck of a rocking album. It's very early seventies rock. If queen woulda had the promoter Zeppelin had... Oh, on another note, more along dream theater...back on Oct 21, a friend ofmine bought my I&W and ACoS for my birthday, cos she knew to that point I had not had money to buy them, even though I loved them from the moment my friend introduced them to me. Well, last thursday a tragic chapter was written in the beginning of my Dream Theater collection - thursday marked the end of my collection, as someone found their way into my room and stole all my CDs, my DT discs included. Boy, I was not happy! One day, sitting back enjoying Take the Time, the next lamenting its theft. Not to mention, the theft of my entire Queen catalog, my Styx catalog, my Barry Manilow catalog - YES I LIKE BARRY MANILOW!!!!! Boy it sucks to have property stolen from your home. You feel so violated.
