Nice to see that the Jam is about DT again! Maybe it's no coincidence that Scarred is neither on the cassette version nor played live. Somewhat it sounds like it's just sort of a bonus track, though it's one of their best songs IMO. I got the Ivanhoe samples fromm Trey Allen's web page and I must say, I'm not impressed one bit. Sorry, but it sounds to me like just another progressive metal band. Hey, the vocal melody of the chorus is similar to the one of "Die da" from German rap act "Die fantastischen Vier". It's just a simple, boring scale. And the keys sound like randomly thrown in. Hi, Mike! Hey, I'm thinking of Mike Bahr... I'm still waiting for Acoustic Dreams, but I have some things to say concerning liner notes. If you don't want to print the band's name on it, then let it be instead of writing Majesty. Remember the puzzled statement here on the 'jam about that mysterious band named Majesty ;-) Then you wrote that you didn't mention Voices and Bad on the liner notes, because they have inferior qualitiy compared to the other tracks. But these tracks are on the CD, so you should put the titles on the liner notes, too! You could have written a small "Bonus tracks: Voices and Bad", that way the booklet would fit for the CD. Hell, am I pedantic... Liner notes become my new hobby. ;-) Steffen ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Nov 1995 12:48:57 -0500 From: email_address_removed (Jason Birzer) To: ytsejam@anthor.arastar.com ('smtp:ytsejam@arastar.com') Message-ID: 1-703-273-5600 Date: Tue, 07 Nov 1995 12:51:08 -0500 Subject: German Article I translated Karou's German article about Kevin Moore (I work for a company that makes language translation software). If any of you care, it is incredible. I can't really imagine Rush doing it, especially Geddy singing it. Very emotional with a haunting melody that grows on you. Another album highlight. BTW, since I receieved AD yesterday, I have already copied it to tape so I can blast it on my walkman after quiet hours in my dorm. Partha Mukhopadhyay Q of the day: What are the funniest things you've come across on this list? Tops for me were: 1) Back just after I found out about ACOS and got a dub of the tDOE version, somebody asked about the title, along the lines of "What does ACOS stand for? ANOTHER CARESS OF STEEL?" Having been a Rush fan long before I found DT, that line had me dying....good thing I read it in private, mighta earned a few suspicious looks in a school computer lab :) 2) Joe Krueger's Ytse/Jam takeoff (the extra voices made the gag work for me) psm ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Nov 1995 18:05:42 -0500 From: email_address_removed (Benjamin Gateno) To: email_address_removed Subject: Stuff Message-ID: Fuck Dave. Dudes, those Bad 4 Good boys are pretty talented, but I don't like the lead singer (Sam from Different Strokes) that much. Every time I listen all I can think about is him saying in that shitty little boy's tone, "Hello Mr.D!" But that guitar player is pretty good considering his age. I can't play anywhere near that level, and I can whip out a couple of decent licks, but he is Vai's prodigy. In general, the album is pretty cheesy. It's some of the worst compositions from Steve Vai I've ever heard. Right now I'm listening to Take The Time, which I haven't listened to in a long time. Actually I'm listening to the entire IaW disc. The best part is in PMU when it's just James singing "Watch the Sparrow falling......" Am I getting too long? Well, I'll just ask a couple of questions. 1) What's the title of the Picasso piece that's on our Italian God's guitar? It's cool. 2) I asked this earlier (Goodie, now I'm on to Surrounded! :^) ), but can anyone out there near or in Minnesota give a few of us a ride to one of the shows on the East Coast????? We have to see these shows, and we have plenty of gas money. We would not be a burden. Please?! Well, sorry, this is longer than I expected. Thanks for hearing me out. There ARE two things I have to bitch about, though. They both pertain to people discussing their other favorite bands. Some people try to use this opportunity to set themselves up as cooler than the rest of us. The first category is people who think they're cooler than the rest of us because one of their favorite bands is a band they claim no one else has ever heard of. Like the guy in the last 'jam who thinks no one has ever heard of Helmet. Get real, man! Helmet is a good band, but they're old-hat to most of us. The second category is actually a broader case of Category #1. This is the group of people who claims that they're superior to Progresive Rock fans, because they listen to such a broad range of music. For example, the big Dave Matthews thread here from a couple of weeks ago. Dave Matthews sucks. Jazz sucks. Rap sucks. If you listen to this crap, you aren't cooler than us DT/Rush/Yes fans; you just have worse musical taste.
