While I'm glad people think my posts are generally substantive (except, possibly, this one... heh) I'm gonna have to offer a dissenting opinion here... I rather like longer posts as long as they _go_ somewhere. I don't even mind if there are no par-breaks, or if it's a "continuous" train of thought, as long as it isn't something to say "I like DT oooooooooooh how I like DT I wish they were a chick band so I could fantasize about them oooooooooh they the best" ... but usually that's not the case. Believe it or not, I even read _all_ the posts about metal tapes, and the meter in The Mirror, because I wanted to understand both topics. But I usually skip posts about Echolyn and Genesis, since neither band has really hit me yet, though I think both are good. Short posts are really good for the Jam though, brevity is the soul of wit, and if there's anything we are getting in about the most appropriate quantity, it's humor. It's not a sordid, melancholy mailing list, and yet it's not utterly ridiculous and goofy like the SDOA BBS was back in the days of old. When Portnoy goes into his oh, 8 minute drum solo, half way through, he gives this signal to Petrucci as to say "Let's do it now!". Then Petrucci and Portnoy echo each other in some sort of weird Death Metal chant or something. It's as if they expect us to recognize it or something! Well, me not being an afficianado of weird Death Metal chants, am asking you, The Jam what you think it is that they're playing. I've heard that sometimes that MP sometimes puts some Iron Maiden or Pantera into his solos (NOT that I'm suggesting that they are death metal bands!!!), so is this the case, or is it some other band? I'm just writing because i came across some DT material that i found interesting. I was talking to my bud during english class (what else is there to do??) and i mentioned Dream Theater. He said "that name sounds familiar" So he left it at that. the next day, he comes to school and gives me a videocassette. He said his brother's friend subscribes to "ROCKvideo Monthly", which i had never heard of. He pointed to the box and said "Dream Theater?" and i looked and i said "DREAM THEATER!!!" It's a compilation of metal videos for the releases around June '93. The third video is 'Another Day'. I've heard that it didn't make MTV's playlist, so i kinda jumped at the sight. So, i havn't even gotten a chance to watch it yet, and i plan on doing that right now. If there are a few folks who havn't seen it, i'll kindly do a little review for ya in the future. I saw 'Lie' once on MTV around last October or November, whenever DT was on Headbanger's Ball (my first exposure to the band i might add). I liked the video, but havn't seen it since. I haven't seen PMU or TTT at all... i'm so deprived. I'm in a DT video fix right now. I think it would be cool of DT to release a video compilation with their next album. The videocassette could have all videos up to that point (especially 'The Silent Man'... that video's gotta be good!!) plus one off of their new album. I guess it would be kinda 'neat' to do and to see. Welp, i gotta go check this video out! later dudes! Jeff. The Fates CD was Parallels. I had never heard them before, and I was looki= ng forward to hearing it, because that disc was #1 on my similarities engine results (and with a real high weight, too). Now, I know that just about everybody on the Jam likes this band, so please don't flame me, but I didn'= t really hear anything special. But then again, I didn't have all that much time so I was kinda just skimming through the songs. I don't know if I would've liked it more if I had time to listen to the whole thing, but nothing jumped out at me like DT's songs do. On the other hand, I was also really looking forward to hearing Ozric Tentacles. I love instrumental songs/bands, 'cause with no vocals, you're forced to listen to the music. The disc was Arborescence (their latest, I think?). I liked this one from the start, and ended up buying it. It's ju= st so wonderfully weird!
