I got it at the local import store long before the US version was released (they do have copies of that now for about $10 less). It does have Guardian, which prompted me to get ATG, I have everything from that up now. It has a slightly reworked version of "At Fate's Fingers" although I like the original better. The song "Circles," though, I think is better than the two songs on IO that parts of it came from. The only problem is that PS is underrepresented, but it's still a great compilation. He was *really* getting into it on this tour during "Lie." It definitely got the crowd going in SFO. The whole damn floor was jumping up and down in unison. Having made my way to the back from the front by the time the song came on, I obtained the full effect--- it was awesome. Chasing Time is a great overview of Fates Warning, and yes it has Guardian. Here's the tracklist: 1. Monument (from Inside Out) 2. The Apparition (from the Spectre Within) 3. Through Different Eyes (Perfect Symmetry) 4. Point of View (Parallels) 5. Prelude to Ruin (Awaken The Guardian) 6. Quietus (part of the Ivory Gate of Dreams, No Exit) 7. Eye to Eye (Parallels) 8. Guardian (Awaken the Guardian) 9. At Fates Fingers (unreleased instrumental version of At Fates Hands from Perfect Symmetry) 10. Silent Cries (No Exit) 11. We Only Say Goodbye (remix of the version from Parallels) 12. Damnation (Night on Brocken) 13. Circles (unreleased, sort of a mix of Outside Looking In and Shelter Me) 14. The Eleventh Hour (Parallels) And for the other guy who asked, the Ivory Gate of Dreams is on No Exit. I think you can order it through cdnow.com or cdconnection.com... -Max Anton Max Keyboards, Aepithex MadMax+@cmu.edu ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Sep 1995 00:26:29 -0400 (EDT) From: Rachel Goldenberg To: email_address_removed Subject: space-dyed sportswear sighting Message-ID: Sorry, no ACOS review... I have also been trading boots lately. I think it would be a great idea if we got together a list of DT boot dubbers. I know that several of you have MANY MANY boots (Brian Cox) but with a list one could find the closest dubber and ensure a fast return. Wouldn't it be killer if every subscriber had like almost all of the boots out there?!?! So if you guys agree, mail me a list of what you have and I'll keep track of this one too. 6) This newborn zebra's mother has just been killed...the baby zebra is sad and crying and this wise owl flys over and asks whats wrong. I think it would be a great idea if we could get another (smaller) mailing list going to further pursue many topics which are brought up but can't really be discussed fully due to the facts of limited bandwidth, and other people's complaining. Tell me what you think and how involved it would be (Ken Bibb maybe?). 8) Here is the list so far for Subconscious Dub sites. New guy here. I've been on the list for about a week, and I really enjoy the thoughts that are being passed around. First of all, "How I became a DT fan." Some time, probably '92, I was listening to the only local "Hard Rock" station in Utah, when I happened to hear an awesome keyboard passage. It was from the middle of Take the Time. I fell in love with TTT, and requested KBER to play it constantly. The radio station played it probably 3 more times in the next month before they went back to glam tunes. I bought IAW and was converted. Then Awake came out and I loved it even more. Then DT came to town, almost, (Salt Lake City) and I went and saw them. They blew me away. They didn't miss a note. Myung & Petrucci were incredible. and I really liked James. Anyway, that's it. I'd like to put in my two cents on the "DT would rule if they were an instrumental band" comment from Matt . I agree...to a point. There are a lot of songs that would be better without words (like most of Yngwie Malmsteen's--my personal guitar savior), but then it would be almost impossible for bands to get messages across. Mood is conveyed as well. I can't imagine SDV without words. As I said before, I really like James....don't get me wrong. Also, I agree with Frank Marotta . I couple of days ago he wrote about getting more info about "DOE" and "Subconcious". I haven't heard anything about these. And where can I get "boots?" Please, anybody, let me know what I'm missing. Since they haven't been working as fast as expected, the fact that they were nice enough to spare some expensive studio time and invite everyone within driving distance down to hear some rough mixes and have a little party really impressed me. :) On Wednesday, Sept. 27, Marco Petrini wrote: [...snip...] "I want to know everything about the new cd of Kevin Moore, I think that at the guitar will be Mark (the guitar tech of John Petrucci) it's true ??? No, Kevin doesn't have a CD coming out anytime soon because he doesn't have a record deal yet! He doesn't have a guitarist either, it's just him on bass/keys/vocals and Mark Zonder on drums so far. (I've e-mailed Marco an explanation about this privately, btw.) Maybe we should put something about this in the YJ subscription introduction message so that I don't have to bother everyone on YJ by answering this question every week? :) Haha. Absolutely! :) My brother was working on some of his own demos about two years ago in the same studio in Virginia where Dave Matthews cut the demos that landed his band their major label deal, and he used to just constantly rave to me over and over again about how great DMB was. I was very impressed with what he played me even then, but I thought they might be a little _too_ good to be successful with the mainstream public. It's always nice to be proven wrong about something like that. ;) DT content: Mike Portnoy thinks Dave Matthews' drummer, Carter Beauford, is very cool. :) Is it just me or does the guy not only play like but _look_ like Dennis Chambers? ;) Jennifer "ignorance is your bright armor shield the sword of love drivin' your heart reckless when the road gets too rough" -vicky pratt keating/_those voices_ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Sep 1995 12:28:00 +0100 From: w de boer To: email_address_removed Cc: email_address_removed.NL Subject: Late (again) Message-ID: Hey jammers, I have always been late at everything in life, so it was only yesterday that I picked up my copy of ACOS. On my first listen, I recognized the Erotomania keyboard sound. But it's not just the sound. It's also the rythm that sounds like Erotomania. I think this is not original, because they already did something similar with Wait for Sleep in Learning to Live. Something that IS cool, is the percussion sound of Bombay Vindaloo at about 17:08 in ACOS. And everybody's right about the snare sound. It is quite annoying. Sounds like a bucket. There is no such thing as a "definitive" translation. For example, your voice teacher's translation is more of a word for word translation, but "word for word" doesn't work well in translating the feel of a message. For support of this position, look at any translation mailing list/newsgroup. Most people don't know (or care) about the differences between ASCII and the extended character sets--they just want their posts to look nice. MIME handles this situation nicely, but many people aren't using MIME so that won't help.
