My analysis is not deep at all, but I think Chris wanted to sing like Rob Halford from Judas Priest (He's the greatest singer in the world, I think) . Although his voice wasn't powerful enough in high range, he succeeded partly in low range. His low voices on "A Vision", "Vital Star", or "March of the Tyrant" reminds me of Rob's vocal on "Sad Wings of Destiny" or "Sin after Sin" albums. I have moved and changed Internet accounts, my new address is: email_address_removed. What's really cool is the guy in the room next door to mine was listening to Pull Me Under the other day and I walked over and asked, "Is that from the album or the radio?" He replied, "From the album, Images & Words. I have their other one, too, Awake, it's just as good." About time to introduce this guy to WDADU, not to mention Subconscious and the Majesty Demos. Enjoy! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Aug 1995 09:30:25 -0700 (MST) From: Michael Bahr To: email_address_removed Subject: BANK problem solved! Message-ID: Whew! Thank GOD for that... they found the missing $1000. When I had gone in to do that cashier's check that was refused me, the teller tried to pull a fast one and keep the money for herself. It wasn't caught because the daily drawer count was even (since my acount had been docked $1000). I showed my receipts and such to management and called in their loss-prevention agent from downtown, and it was sorted out in short order... and that poor teller is without her job. That's what ya get for stealin, ya know! :) So the stream of CDs shall flow on!! It is (my opinion) that it is common practice for CD Europe to advertise CDs that are not yet in print based on expected or rumoured release dates in order to generate interest-bearing revenue. In March of this year they advertised the availability of the three missing Kansas CDs which still haven't been released. Of course, you still have the option of spending your credited money again in 2 months on other CDs that are also not available. I'd recommend sticking with more reliable and smaller dealers like Tim Lodge, Ranjit, and Shawn Cerreta. Joe Kruger ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Aug 1995 23:59:26 -0400 (EDT) From: "Damian G. Allis" To: email_address_removed Subject: An Evening With Mike... Message-ID: Hi all. Long time reader, first time writer, blah blah, etc. etc. Anyway, I just wanted to announce that the good Mr. Portnoy is giving a drum clinic on Sept. 19th at the Holiday Inn in Syracuse, N.Y. I haven't seen anyone with an e-mail address close enough the Syracuse to actually send this to, but there could always be a humble message-phobic person like myself that might be reading this anyway. Basically, after all the local roadies have picked their knuckles off the ground and gotten on stage to drool until both sides of their mouth loose the same amount (then the stage is level), the drummer (anyone) does a 20-or-so minute solo, talks about any kind of concept in their heads, fields a bunch of questions, and then jam for 4 or 5 songs with the local talent(if those words aren't mutually exclusive). The guy putting the thing on says that Mike's clinic will be big on rudiments and approaches to odd time and melodic playing. Tickets will be 10 bucks, and turnout is expected to be huge (which is good, because the guy putting it on had to buy all the cymbals and (?) rent the drums (the retail on the cymbals is $2500 alone!). Speaking of clinics, I've got a quick question. Does anyone know about the progress of the John Petrucci video? Portnoy said in a Modern Drummer interview ("Metal Drummer's Round Table," where he indirectly trashed Lars Ulrich (it's gotta be Lars)) that Petrucci was coming out with an instructional video. That was about 6 months ago, and I haven't seen it advertised yet. Any news? To the side, I just picked up Allan Holdsworth's new instr. video. If you want to hear some SERIOUSLY progressive stuff, buy the video. It's mostly live footage of his band, with a little gospel from the master. Good stuff. I'll stop. If anyone wants more info on the clinic, I'll be happy to send it out. It should be a great show. Damian Allis #8-)= "We never come to thoughts. 'nuff said on that. The summer included a Queensryche concert (awesome), as well as a Bad Company/Ted Nugent concert, and a Boston concert. Both of those were also quite good. Very recently, was the Live show (all of these shows have been in Phoenix). Granted, it was my first Live concert, but I would have to disagree with a certain "acoustic dreamer" and say that it was anything but mediocre. Or at least anything like "incredible", "awesome" and "one of the best I have been too". It was the closest that I have ever been, but... _The Dam at Otter Creek_ was a perfect opener, the new song, _Cheater_ (something like that) had the most powerful climax... Maybe it was a mediocre show. Maybe I'm weird. Actually, that's a given... but what I'm just trying to help Live. If Mike didn't like it as much, fine. I did. I can't wait for the new one (back to DT)... hearing that review made me shake...
