That's what happens when your parents decide they don't want to drive you half an hour home so YOU can figure out what you need to take and what you don't need to take, but instead lump stuff in the van and drive it over and then don't understand why you're torqued! Um, Mom? I didn't want my entire dresser contents, just what I shoved in suitcases! You forgot my shampoo, too... ...and when she finally remembered it, she didn't close the top and a pair of my shorts and quite a few cassettes (yikes) were covered with green gooey stuff. GRRRR! ANYWAY - it's done, I'm NOT screwing anyone over, I just need to get it copied, but I can't do that until it's in my hands, so you folks'll just have to hold your shorts til about the end of this week, maybe early next week. I'm *really* sorry about the delay, but there's nothing I can do about parents that are obvious victims of the Clue Bandit - they forgot the phone cord when they brought the computer, and I had to go steal someone's. Message-ID: Just thought I'd share some thoughts with you all... ... Are the bunch on alt.music.rush IMPATIENT or what?? You Jammers quietly and politely waited during my nightmare of slow shipping of Subconscious, and now everyone's happy. I run two or three days behind schedule on Cygnus, and all of a sudden half of alt.music.rush is asking if they've been had! Geesh! I can only work so fast! ... Today my bank lost $1000 out of my account. Just like that. I went to make my deposit in the morning, and had $1600. Later, I decided to make a withdrawal to get lunch & such, and it showed my remaining balance as $580. Needless to say, I damn near had a heart attack. And it gets worse! I go in to inquire as to where it went, and the response I get is "well, it must never have been _in_ there." I show them my ATM receipts and ask what they think of that. They decide I'm getting too hot on the trail of the mysterious missing money, or something, because they ask for ID and say my drivers licence dosen't look like me. Of _course_ it dosen't. I got it when I was sixteen, I'm now 21. I don't have long hair anymore, and my beard is a prominent addition. They say I'm just some common criminal trying to get money, so they call the cops. The police officers, for a change, took my side entirely! (I guess state ID, SS card, college ID, and photo drivers license _DO_ count as proof of identity... imagine that!) So it was back to "where is my goddamn $1000 bucks!" And the end answer was "you'll have to come back Monday and talk to the manager." So I guess I'm fucked. $1000 for nothing. I should at least have parked across three handicapped spaces or something, so at least the "fine" would have meant something. Don't worry, it won't affect Acoustic Dreams or Cygnus (both are paid for) but if I don't find out what happened, I won't be able to produce any more. I'll be bankrupt. To be continued... ... Dream Theater won't tour to follow the release of ACOS in the USA, so I guess I'll be pretty dead for comments on them for about a year. What the hell are they thinking? Rush toured after every release, no matter how dismal (Caress of Steel) and it's a big part of the reason they are where they are now. ... Speakin of Rush, does anyone notice the EXTREME parallels that developed between Rush and DT where the first albums are concerned? If I don't miss my mark, ACOS is DT's "2112". Here's hoping for similar results. ... Live's show in Phoenix was entertaining, but I was sort of just reminded by it of how great DT and Rush are. Something inside me just rails against mediocrity. Live is a good band, but they put on a painfully mediocre concert. ... The next night, Dokken blew away a sellout crowd at the Electric Ballroom in nearby Tempe. That show was incredible. They even had time to do a Zep cover as a third encore (Whole Lotta Love). Whatever you may or may not think about the glam '80s, that's where the showmanship was, and that's a fact. Who the hell wants to see a current concert where the band sits around in rocking chairs and croons quietly amongst themselves. I yearn for the days of Kiss with makeup, of early Van Halen, of Rush during the "fantasy" years, of a show with Zeppelin in it. Some people were just born too late, I guess. ... Brothers and sisters I have none, but this person's father is my father's son. Who am I? I haven't heard it so I have to go by what you say. I was mostly playing devil's advocate but I still believe that one doesn't have to be a soloist to fully express himself. Maybe some think that's a contradiction. I don't. I don't think you should have kept it to yourself. You got flamed. It's the Internet. Say something that someone doesn't like and they may call you a jerk (or whatever). It was interesting and I enjoyed talking about it. We can end it if you like. Until I hear it, I don't really have much more to say. Don't worry about what someone else says. You didn't like his solo. Some people might have. How about this. Years ago, I went to the Newport jazz festival. Three of the bands were Wynton Marsalis, Kenny G (G for Jazz ;) and Nancy . My favorite - Kenny G. My quote "he's as fast as any guitar player!" Just thought it was funny. I'll cover myself by saying that I'd only been playing a short time and didn't know what I was listening to. Somehow I thought it was relevant in illustrating how different people like different things. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ + Marc Respass email_address_removed + + http://www.iii.net/users/mer/welcome.html + +----------------------------------------------------------+ + Check out the Joel Rivard Group home page at + + http://www.iii.net/users/mer/joelpage.html + ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 26 Aug 1995 12:49:56 -0500 (CDT) From: Shaft To: email_address_removed Cc: Multiple recipients of list Subject: Re: A possible project...and other tidbits Message-ID: If you want to set up an ftp site or something, I could set up both an extra page on my web page and an ftp site. If you have a Kevin Moore dub site list on your Web page, *please* contact Jen Albert at email_address_removed and ask for an updated version. Yet again, I am receiving a great number of requests, and I closed my dub site in *March* - not only that, if your list is old, it probably has a large number of outdated e-mail addresses as well. Thank you... --------------- Recently (about last week), someone expressed dismany at receiving the 'jam digest in a file form (possibly, .mme or .txt, as I personally have been experiencing). This is related to AOL's new policy for large e-mail messages. Personally, I am *not* pleased with this as it requires a separate software program to decode the damn thing, and it's taking two to three minutes longer to receive single digests now (due to the fact that there's half an e-mail message...and then the first half is repeated in the file!) As if AOL wasn't in enough hot water for allegedly rounding up minutes! If you are displeased, I *strongly* suggest that you write to AOL to make a grievance (which I have been trying to do - I've actually sent two messages thus far). I received some lame form e-mail that said the new policy was enacted because people wanted to "easily" (hah!) send and receive long e-mail messages - well, if enough people commenting caused the policy, then if enough people write who don't like the policy, AOL can go back to the drawing board! If you would like to discuss the issue further with me, please e-mail me privately. Okay, /set serious mode off. I just felt like posting a letter to the jam with a few questions, and opinions. First, I feel that John Myung is an awesome bass player. Ever hear the solo on 'The Ytsejam' ? Also, before you start criticizing another musician, first ask yourself if you could outperform him/her in the same situation. I know we're all fans and we analyze things and inject opinions, but hey, J.M. is a great bass player, hands down. Also, (I've said this before) anyone reading the 'JAM who is going to Potsdam in Upstate NY who would be interested in starting a DT/Rush/Queensryche/etc.. type band should really seriously get ahold of me at email_address_removed. Remember, Classes start Monday!! And finally, how do I get a pair of shorts like John Petrucci had on at the Providence show? Can I get them made somewhere? OK! Not to bust your chops Jeremy, but check out the YYZ drum solo from Rush's "Exit... Stage Left" (if you haven't already). After hearing that and seeing Neil's latest drum solo on each tour, I have a hard time finding another drum/percussion solo on the same plane in terms of musicianship and complexity. For the DT content, I've been away from the list most of the summer, has anything else come out about a return North American tour? I didn't get to see them last fall but I did catch them w/ GC July '93 in Baltimore (5th row) - one hell of a show!
