Overall, they're excellent. My only disappointment was on Only a Matter of Time from LitS. It's one of my favorite DT songs. The sound quality is pretty good (even though you can't understand a word LaBrie says) up until the classical-sounding keyboard solo part. What the hell happened there? It sounds like whoever was recording it went into the bathroom for the rest of the song! I still say they're worthing getting if you can get a copy of them. I believe it's made by Live Storm which is the same company that did Queensryche's Unplugged disk. That one is good and listenable. Anyhow, I'd appreciate opinions of this disk. Thanks. Set time, especially for headline bands, should only be dictated by artist endurance, music quality (what one plays and what the audience wants to hear) and venue/travel time restrictions. Dream Theater has the ability and music to play long sets, as does Metallica. In some ways, the best metal bands play progressively at times. Metallica and Iron Maiden are good examples. And as I believe I said in a previous post, Metallica's current lead ax-man studied with the Satch man (Joe Satriani). Is it just me, or does anyone else think that another Satch student (Steve Vai) sounds alot, at times, like his teacher. This is not a flame, just an observation. A couple of things here. Uh, like Bracken Odiorne asked what guitars that other guitar playing Ytsejammers played. As for me, I own two Les Pauls, an '87 standard with a special order white finish, and an '85 that is sort of a LP but sort of isn't because it has two cutaways like the Hamer Sunburst, and it has an 'Explorer' style headstock. But as a fan of intense guitar music, I could not be without a Floyd Rose, so my other electric is a Peavey G-90. (Nobody seems to know that this model existed. Too bad. It's a solid guitar after you put a Duncan TB11 Custom Custom Trembucker in it.) And I have an el-cheapo, but somewhat nice, but still a laminated top 12 string that is too hard to play as a 12, so I have it strung 6. Is it my imagination, or are most of DT's fans musicians? At least half of all the fans I've met seem to play something or another, or have attempted playing a musical instrument in the past. I also begin to wonder at times if I only appreciate DT because I can understand what they're doing, and don't judge music primarily on it's "danceability" factor (if it's not in 4/4, it sucks). I've been a musician longer than I haven't been. I'm beginning to wonder if only musicians perceive things that make DT great. I know that's probably not true, but, perhaps non-musicians that like DT or other bands that transcend commercialism are intrinsically 'musical' but never actually decided to pick up an instrument.
