So , there it is. No, here it is: I've notice in Metropolis Part 1 that Kev does some wierd modulation thing at 1:28. It is kind of low in the mix. It gives the song some wierd feeling if you think about it. Also, on LTL, on the Dream out Loud cd, the chord right after, "I won't Give up till I've no more to give, no more to give." Really cool chord that I think should have been louder in the mix on I&W, Does anyone agree? Of course maybe not. Laapy, I am a Tourniquet fan too. I think that Vanishing Lessons is not their best stuff, but I really like it. Steve Taylor is cool. I like him a lot. And Steve Vai's new album is awesome! All for now, I just want to see if this works. Since I had to get to I-95 North to go to my internship, I was kinda stuck going a very strange way to get there - through the city. =) After Jim got out of the car, AWAKE went back in the player. I went apeshit. People were giving me the oddest looks... However, there is a sticker on the back window of my car that is designed to explain my odd behavior. It simply says: MUSICIAN ON BOARD. Hand-made, mind you. =) I'd recommend you try that. Either that, or make one up that says: "AIR DRUMMER ON BOARD" And lemme tell ya'll something - when I'm getting up at the butt-crack of dawn to go home from my g/f's apartment (where I really should start paying rent), there's nothing quite like "Scarred" to kick off my day. I was accused by a female friend of being "waaaaaay too chipper" today. =) Ah well. Not much DT content. And no technical jargon. Wow. PRO-TOOLS! 44.1khz! DAT! AAD/DDD/DAD/ADD! MULTI-TRACK! I'm thinking about doing a con out west, in the Phoenix area. It's accessible to both the California _and_ Texas users, which comprise the larger segments of all southwestren Jammers. It depends on how well things are going here at the complex. Of course, since I doubt Dream Theater themselves will be here, I'd say Babs' convention has an immediate upper hand. I'm sitting here with everything ready to burn and nothing to burn it on. I've already contacted the record company about the situation (damn their lazy, slow souls to hell) and they have sworn over and over that the discs will get to me "right away". Until then I can only watch, wait, and wonder what _other_ company I will contact when I do When Dream and James Unite. It certainly does me no good to have the CDs delayed, so I can assure you all that I am as impatient to get 'em as you are... after all.. I've got a lot of work ahead of me, and I'd like to get started! :) I'll just have to leave it in God's hands, since if I don't get those discs darned soon, you all know where to find me so you can lynch me! Again, my most humble apologies for this inexcusable delay. On the up side, I bullied them into fully pressing 10 discs for every day that the order will be late, starting today. So, I will at least have a handful already recorded, to send out immediately. The true test is listen for feel. If a band plays an odd time and it feels good it is good. If it feels awkward, they're doing something wrong (like "trying" to be complicated). I can agree with the first part of your statement but not the second part (the rest of the band can be replaced). I think we'll see a different sound on the next album due to Moore's departure. I would also venture that Petrucci writes his parts and the rest of the band writes theirs. I also wouldn't doubt if other members contribute to each song even if the majority of it is one person's idea. Everything makes a big difference to a song - the drum, part the keyboard voicings, the bass line, the vocal melody and the guitar part. Only two songs on Awake don't credit Dream Theater with writing the music. So, as the self-appointed defender of "80's" bands, I thought it my duty to inform everyone that the Skid Row album "Subhuman Race" is out. Surprisingly, I've seen at least two people quoting the new album in their "sig.," so there seems to be potential interest among DT fans. "Subhuman Race" is in a lot of way the logical extenstion of their previous effort "Slave to the Grind," meaning that it is very, very, very heavy. They're using a lot of time changes, most of which I'm still trying to figure out. Now for the DT CONTENT: to those who have the album, it seems to me that drummer Rob Affuso has been listening to some Portnoy lately because he has really stepped out into the forefront on this album, especially on "Face Against My Soul" and "Medicine Jar." We all know that Sebastian Bach is into DT because of the LiT video, but I'm wondering about the rest of the band. And is DT a fan of Skid Row? It wouldn't surprise me. Anyone have any info on this? In any case, I 've taken up too much time already. Once again, BUY "SUBHUMAN RACE!" Especially all you drummers out there. It's very cool.
