If anyone's looking for wicked guitar I purchased Al DiMeola's Elegant Gypsy which has a spanish/latin american feel throughout most of the cd. It's not that jazzy, but features Paco de Lucia in at least one song. They even do tradeoffs with the keyboard. It's incredible. Very reminiscent of Deep Purple, and Vinnie Moore at times. One song features two acoustic guitars for about 6 minutes at blistering speed (Paco and Al). You can see the influence in DT's stuff as well. But (after only one try) I wasnt impressed. I dont know but it doesnt sound that special to me. I really had expected something less *hm I dont knom the word, the only word that comes into my mind is the Forbidden one, but OK here it is -MAINSTREAM- OK so there I said it, go flame me, just do it* Though I can see that some people really can get into it and love them. They are not bad, not bad at all, just that they arent any special, at least not to me, at least not yet. To me it sounded like Queensry:che, and not like their best performances either. Maybe I should try another album, and perhaps at home instead of in the recordstore. I dont remember who said something about their lyrics, but I think they were quite medioker. Not that I can make better myself, but I know other ( DT, Fish, Queensry:che.....) that can. ON THE OTHER HAND I listened to Genesis the -Lamb on Broadway- album. Man was that brilliant !!!! I must say that I NEVER thought Gabriel/Collins were able to do that kind of music. Sometimes it was so good I was thinking of buying it right away, even if the CD costed 30 dollars and I dont have a CD-player. I will definately try to listen to more of their stuff. And to you out there who just have heard their newer pop-stuff, GIVE THEM A TRY ! It is 2 decades old and has the same quality as Pink Floyd - the same weird *drug*-parts too -. DT requires open mindedness, people who say they like DT but they'd be better without the keyboards are full of shit. DT is dark, uplifting, heavy and light, but always excellent. they wouldn't be DT if awake consisted only of ciaw, the mirror, lie, and songs like that. its diversity and their ability to write excellent music that makes them who they are. big ramble. my point, dt demands openmindedness, so before you label a song as cheese because it grooves or poppy because james sings 'ah' and its a major chord, give it another chance. dt grows on you. i hate IF and now its my favorite from the cd because i put the 'too poppy' mentallity out of my head and listened with a clean slate, so to speak. there isn't a single DT song after the majesty demos that i dont love. its the same closed mindedness and unwillingness to listen that keeps people from getting into fates. under brooding skies and watchful email_address_removed on convulsive seas of false urgency-----http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu we walk empty corridors in vain--------derek-------.edu/usr/wb2a/home -cds for sale: http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/u/wb2a/cdsale.html- guitars, not-very-impressive backing vocals, and songwriter, aepithex ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Jan 1995 17:01:46 -0500 (EST) From: William T Bajzek To: Multiple recipients of list Subject: Re: DT & related bands Message-ID: email_address_removed.ac.at (Obiltschnig Guenter) writes: > Hi Yjmrs! > > Could you please stop discussing DT-related bands here!
