King Crimson is entering into their fourth wave of sound. The first era includes the albums: In The Court Of The Crimson King, In The Wake Of Poseidon, Lizard, and Islands. The second KC era involves John Wetton (U.K., and Asia): Larks' Tongues In Aspic, Starless And Bible Black, and Red. The third era involves Adrian Belew (of Zappa fame) - albums are: Discipline, Beat, and Three Of A Perfect Pair. The newest KC incarnation sound like a combination of Red and Discipline. The new EP is called VROOOM. Awesome stuff! Anyway, I'm through... I have approximately. 500 CDs, so my list would take up an entire digest. There is a lot of great music out there... Onward.... Thanks again to Kevin Moore and Jen for letting us in on what Kevin has in store for the Dream Theater fans who are following his solo career. Kevin's writing ability in Dream Theater will be sorely missed as evidenced by the number of people on here who thought Space Dye Vest was the most powerful song on Awake. Big Brother on the net. I hve noticed that the major problem with these servers are the subscription requests that get into the digest, and all of the problem with excessive quoting of material. I agree that nothing bothers me more than being sensored for the "good" of the group. I'm in favor in moderators for answering questions and formatting purposes, beyond that, who knows. Just for example (I'm not ragging on them specifically, but The National Midnight Star got to be so redundant that I couldn't stand it anymore. There would be two good posts and the rest were about my cat named Tom Sawyer and my dog named By-Tor, and my Fish named Derek (wrong digest ). Albeit they do a good job of covering the band right before and after a new album and tour, but beyond that, yuck. The cool thing about this digest is that we can talk about anything and hopefully most of it is on Dream Theater or stuff interesting to Dream Theater fans. Taping: There have been some people bitching on here about people and trades, etc... I would just like to say, try to deal with things through e-mail and give tapes time. Most of us tapers do things other than tape, and occasionally we get bogged down with work, family, and recreation. In short, try to fix the problem before you blacklist. King Crimson: With this list in mind I recommend Red (1974) as a starting point. Really driving trio material with lots of instrumental interludes. I would recommend In the Court of the Crimson King from the early stuff, and Discipline from the 1980's group (who Myung said he enjoyed in interview). Myung digs Tony Levin (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, etc...) who is one of the premire bass and stick players in music, Other bands: Does anyone know if the new Threshold album is out in the USA yet, I have heard it is out in Europe. Echolyn's album is due out March 7th for all of those I have converted , Magellan should have a new album out this spring, also check out Shadow Gallery and Cairo who are also on Magna Carta records and are really powerful bands. The new Mastermind should also be out in the USA soon thus making it easier for Europeans and Americans to get copies. Has anyone seen copies of the European singles for Awake albums in the US? I have been searching the import shops with no luck. As far as I know, 'Psychotic Waltz' brought out three albums. I didn't see their name mentioned very much on this list, and that suprises me. They make really wonderful music, a little bit "surrealistic", especially due to their vocalist. If you ever have the chance to see them live, don't miss it! I heard they would be coming back to Europe (they're American, aren't they?), I am desperatly looking for dates/places in the Net(her)lands. They only weird thing is you see them live, is when you see the guitarist playing rythem guitar, but you hear a guitar solo. That's because one of their guitarists made a mistake when he was stagediving a few years ago, and he has to soend his life in a wheelchair; if you're directly in front of the stage, you don't see him. I don't recall the titles of their albums, but you should check out the album that contains eight songs (I believe it's their second album), the first song is called "Ashes", this album is really a masterpiece! Lethal is a progressive metal band in the vein of old Queensryche and Fates Warning. They are based in Northern Kentucky, USA, near Cincinnati, but they seldom if ever play the major local clubs. Lethal not only still exists, but they released an EP (longer than a typical Van Halen album!) just a few months ago. They have three releases: the debut EP entitled "Lethal" (cassette only), full-length CD/tape "Programmed," and the recently released EP (its name escapes me now). Their CD's are difficult to find, even here in Cincinnati, but I will try to find out from a local store if they can acquire more. If so, I'll post how to get them. Unfortunately, I can't find any info on Psychotic Waltz. I've been to the alternative/metal music stores, record conventions, etc., but I can't locate Angra, Adramelch, Anekdoten, Asgard, Black Jester, Blackthorne, Divine Regale, Enchant, Heir Apparent, Inferno, or Mercury Rising anywhere.
