Most soundboards have what's called Balanced output...  three wire,
separate ground, minimal analog noise.  So if you wanted to hook up onto
the soundboard with your unit you'd have to have an RCA to balanced
transformer or a 1/4" jack which most soundboards have too...

Audience DAT recordings are just as good as a lot of soundboards... listen
to Dance of Eternity... that is no a soundboard, it is an audience DAT
recording done with some really good mics!
