Anyway, it was the pre-game show thing and they had some guy out on the field doing commentary. All of a sudden I recognize the music coming over the PA system in Giants Stadium - it was 6:00!!!!!!! And they played the entire thing. Of course it was pretty difficult to hear at home thru the TV, but over 60,000 people were listening to DT before the Jets game on Sunday. I thught it was very kewl, considering that's probably the most people that have ever heard DT at one time.....then again, most of the fans were probably drunk or stoned anyway - you know how Jets fans get! :) Just another interesting anecdote.... Could you imagine Eddie Van Halen playing with Myung and Portnoy? It'd be cool, but not ideal. Here's my idea though... I will now conduct an offical survey of the ytsejammers. Here's the idea.. I had to explain this to my girlfriend too. The point is that it may or may not be that Neil Peart is better than Mike Portnoy, but the reason I picked MP is because of his *style*! I think NP is AMAZING but if he had to play with other members of DT I don't think he would do as well. NP is technically perfect(that's a GOOD thing) but he's not[IMHO] as flexible as MP, and DT is DEFINATLY flexable. Please no flames about a NP/MP war here...just my opinion. Someone like Joe Satriani[again IMHO] would have NO place in DT, and DT is EXACTLY what I want to hear! :) As for me, I don't see how the music could get better. I did however think that Geoff Tate could do wonderfully on the vocals Basically, what I'm trying to say is: It's not just talent...it's being able to show that talent without smothering the other members of the band. And it's being able to stive in the band environment >I guess that this is no real surprise, since this is a DT mailing list. >Still, don't want to start behaving like die-hard Rush fans (no offense >to anyone) and not being able to see beyond the abilities of one band! :) Yeah, I know what you mean >^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ >| MMM MMM || "We are a vision without revelation | >| MMMM MMMM || We are a miracle without meaning" | >| JJJ MMMM MMMM PPP || -The Tale of the Body Thief | >| J MM MMM MM PPP || Anne Rice | >| J J MM M MM P || | >| JJJ MM MM P || Jayson M. I just wanted to express my firmest support for derrick, whom I had the pleasure of meeting backstage at the Denver gig last week (thanks LUVAH!). This fellow is extremely talented, very laid back (not quite to the extent of the SLLEPAH [affectionate name for the departed Moore] though) and generally seemed to fit in well with the band. His piano solo on TTT was exemplary, especially when considering the noticeable abscence of Myung. The only concern that remains in my mind would be his songwriting abilities. I'm sure this is NOT A PROBLEM, however, judging by his creative improv accomplishments. His remarkable ornithic presence repealed any likelyhood of oscitancy on my part. Although osculation was out of the question, I did feel honored to have met such a musician last week. As for Portnoy, though, it was harder to resist.(ha!) -Colin ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Nov 94 17:32:00 EST From: "Cackowski, David" To: email_address_removed Subject: Awake on vinyl update Message-ID: <2EDBD6E8@OSCS_MAIL_GATE> Okay jammers, Here is the phone number for Ear Candy Collectibles in California. DT already exists so it can't be my dream band. I picked Marty Friedman for guitaist myself. I just picked up hi new release Introduction. It is somewhat like Scenes for the sound, (classical, new ageish) He has Brian BecVar doing piano/keys and Nick Menza doing drums. It would be interesting to see what others people dream bands where.
