It ran perfectly on my 486-50 w/ 8 megs, so I can't see people having problems. It appears to be identicle to the one on the Mac, only it actually runs on a normally configured machine... Overall, it is a sorta cool thing, and I'd love to see the entire press release CD-ROM... The section on songs has a few samples to choose from, although the song names are shortened... The one thing that I am very dissapointed in is that in their Q&A section, the questions and are DIRECTLY from OUR FAQ, and the answers just rearrange the answers to various questions from the FAQ. This would not really upset me (I think it is sorta cool) except there is NO MENTION of Ytsejam, Mike Bahr, or any of us in the credits... Well, let me ask you. If you were in a band, and the number one question from fans who meet you after a show where you've just worked your butt of is "What about x who left the band?" Wouldn't you be a bit grumpy? Why not ask them about themselves, or the album, or something that relates to Dream Theater as it exists now? Kevin was my favorite member (I play Keyboards) But I'm seriously thinking of wearing a sticker on the front of my shirt that says "I Promise not to ask about Kevin" to the show. I mean, is it the band or is it their management who decides if they are allowed to hang out with their fans? From managements viewpoint it's a potential risk to hang out with fans, who knows what might happen? Someone might try to kill them! I know it's a grotesque example but I hope you see what I mean. As long as the band is on a relatively "small" scale, theres no need to be that precautious. I think someone should talk to Mike Portnoy about getting Light Fuse and Get Away with James on vocals. If he knew how intent we are on doing this, he might be willing to help us out. Be sure to make obvious that we are not in this for profit. This is just something to keep us (ytsejammers) busy and content. We also should be patient for the best version of TOWHTSTS. The version of "Only a Matter of Time" that we put on it should be the one on LitS with "March of the Tyrant" tacked on the end of it. That tune is really cool. Also, I think To Live Forever should be on it since this song actually dates back that far. Same with A Change of Seasons of we can fit it (this song was written around the time Metropolis was written). Eve however is not that old, and is really a I&W - Awake song. So if we divide by era, it shouldn't on it, but if we're just out to get everything that's not on I&W or Awake on this compilation, then put it on. I think we'll be dealing with space constraints with all 11 songs though, especially with the extras (Mission:Impossible, Another Hand, March of the Tyrant). I wouldn't want to do it without LFAGA, though. Comments, suggestions? They enjoyed talking to dedicated fans, and asked me questions about the internet, our group, Pittsburgh etc.. It was a conversation. Also, before jumping into deep questions, you bet your ass the first thing out of my mouth was "Great show, you guys are the greatest musicians." I present myself as a fan, not a reporter. Message-ID: More Reviews... Early Warning is a band that is out of Atlanta, USA. Their "The Hero's Dream" tape is probably one of the better small label albums I have heard in a while. At times this band sounds a bit like Fate's and at times like Queensryche, but they blend the style in a way that I have never heard. Wings of Steel is a very powerful song, on the hard side with great guitar. Beholden is a more melodic tune similar to the tunes of Queensryche. I highly recommend this tape, contact email_address_removed if you want more info. Enchant is a band out of California who worked with Marillion guitarist Rothery and has a harmonic vocal similar to King's X. The guitar playing is similar to Marillion. Inferno is a band that seems to want to be Dream Theater with a harder edge of older Metallica and some Iron Maiden. The lyrics are similar to something that Dream Theater would write, though the technical prowess of the members isn't that great at this point. The new material from Inferno should be a lot more powerful as the band matures. Lethal is a clone of Queensryche's Warning album that was released by Metal Blade in 1990. If you love Warning, this album is worth getting because it is like adding 45 minutes more music to the CD. Magellan is a band heading in the direction of Dream Theater with a kinda technical keyboard lead (imagine Kevin running DT totally). There is some industrial sound and the drums are played by the keyboard player. Some songs like Breaking These Circles and Magna Carta are excellent, some such as Friends of America are just poor and skippable (mostly due to lyrics). The second album is lyrically much better than the first (Impending Ascention) and more keyboard driven. Still a favorite of mine. Mastermind features the Berends brothers. Bill plays guitars and his brother the percussion. Bil is an incredible guitar player, if you love Johnson, Satriani, and Mainsteen, this album is for you. Guitar sound is not like the mentioned players, it is MIDI guitar, producving all of the keyboard like effects with speed untouched by a keyboardest. Brainstorm is a highly recommended album (not that metal, but very hard). Mercury Rising is a local band to Baltimore with a lot of of the sound of Iron Maiden. Minute Man is the highlight of the EP and the vocalist screams the refrain over rumbling bass. Their new disk which should be out any time now is suppose to step towards DT and FW in sound, but this band definitely has talent. POA, Progress of Agression captures the vocals of Mustane and the guitar of Puppets Metallica, with many other metal backgrounds into an album. It really isn't me favorite of the bunch, mostly because of the changes infrom song to song, but it is enjoyable. If you like straight metal you should enjoy this. Savatage is another favorite band on this list and in the prog metal category. Sirens / Dungeons is the only album I have bt them, but it is strong metal, and I quite like it. The only thing that would make it prog are the fantasy references in the lyric. Still recommended. Next installment will be e-mail addresses for some of these bands....
