I took it back and got another one. The new one works just fine. The other benefit I got is that I have the question sheet again! I think I'll just keep this one for the picture. Thanks for all the input. btw. I listened to the CD Constantly for a week before I realized that it wouldn't come out. Mike S. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Oct 1994 00:47:10 -0400 From: email_address_removed To: email_address_removed Subject: Release Party Message-ID: Wow! I just got back from the record release party here on Long Island. Here's the specifics. LaBrie, Petrucci, and Portnoy played acoustic. Mike had a 4 or 5 bongo set-up with wind chimes and a mounted tambourine. John M. was there, but didn't play. They played 1 verse of Voices, then did the whole Silent Man. The other song they did was Bad (the U2 song). James' voice sounded great. That's it 2-1/2 songs, then they sat down and signed some autographs. I asked Mike if there were any triggered drum samples. He gave me a big smile and said "No way". He seemed quite happy about this. I also asked him about the IRC thing and he said it was really cool, but kinda slow. He said he had to wait for the questions, and then it had to be typed and sent back. He didn't really mind, though. I asked James if anyone else sang on the album. He said "No one in the band, but John Purnell sang back-up with me on the Silent Man." I then asked if SDV was all him and he said it was, so I told him how much I dig those vocals. The only thing I asked Myung was if the mirror on the album cover was the object the girl is holding on I&W and he said it's not the same. (I still think it is- it's cooler that way:)) I didn't speak to Petrucci since I couldn't really think of a question. But the coolest part of the night was before the show. Charlie Dominici was there, and me and my friend spoke with him for about 20 minutes. When they showed the Lie video on the monitors, Dominici sang along during the chorus. He was a really nice guy and said that he had a demo that he was shopping to some labels. He has a studio on Long Island and runs a music teaching service. He told us he sang at Portnoy's wedding a month or so ago. The acoustic set was brief, but worth the 7 bucks to get in. John P. sang backing on the Silent Man, and sounded good. That's all I remember right now. Andy ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Oct 1994 00:58:29 -0400 From: email_address_removed To: email_address_removed Subject: Help! I just heard that there is gonna be a record release party after all. It's at a bar on Long Island called Mulcahy's. I think it's in Wantagh or Massapequa. A local radio station WRCN is sponsoring it. I don't know the freq. number of the station, so I can't even listen to find out. The area code here is 516 if someone wants to get the number for Mulcahy's. I also heard they are going to play a few acoustic since Mike isn't showing due to sickness. I have no idea if any of this is true, but I figured I'd post anyway. Damn- I almost forgot- it's tomorrow night (Friday) at 9 pm. I think I'll just go down there tomorrow and try to get in. For those of you who live in the LA area, they had a bunch of neat-o keen flyers announcing the show in Aron's (one of the best record shops in town, BTW), if you want to go down and pick up a couple as souvenirs. :) Jennifer ____________________________________________ air email_address_removed email_address_removed ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Oct 1994 06:11:59 -0400 (EDT) From: BILL LIVES HERE To: email_address_removed Subject: Re: Release Party Revisited Message-ID: Ho do you unsubscribe? ------------------------------ Date: 15 Oct 94 07:11:38 EDT From: Jeremy Haynes To: "INTERNET:ytsejam@arastar.com" Subject: YTSEJAM digest 554 Message-ID: My first post to the "Jam", figured I throw up my top four Awake tunes FWIW: 1) CIAW 2) 6:00 3) Erotomania 4) SDV Jer ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Oct 1994 10:39:31 -0400 From: email_address_removed To: email_address_removed Subject: Jordan/Derek Message-ID: ERIC MOEGLING writes: <<>> Jordan WAS offered the DT tour gig but turned it down to be with the Dixie Dregs. If anyone out there is interested in a get together and did not get a message from me for the Providence show, please let me know and I will send you the (few as of now) details about the get together (so far, I have myself, Brent Phillips & crew from MIT, Mike Masi, Tim Lodge, Chris Anderson (and band?) as well as Kaoru Kobayashi who is coming all the way over to the US for some shows). Becuase Providence is a general admission show, at least a few of us might hang around during the show also.... I don't know... I mean I can't see them doing it, I'd hope they'd have higher moral values than this, especially since they're all married or getting married. Can you comment?<<< Well, I really feel that what they do in their personal lives is none of my business, or anyone else's for that matter, but I can honestly say that I've never personally seen any of the band members participate in any "illicit" activities of that nature. On the contrary, the 1st time I met them, Mike's girlfriend, Marlene (who is now his wife), was with him and John P's girlfriend, Rena (who is now his wife also), was with him. They seem like a pretty sedate bunch to me. :) Unless, of course, you want to count the time I witnessed Mike Portnoy & Alan Doss (of Galactic Cowboys) having a few too many beers and singing old Beatles songs nowhere near the right key. :) Jennifer _____________________________________________ air email_address_removed email_address_removed ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Oct 1994 13:53:49 -0400 From: email_address_removed To: email_address_removed Subject: Re: Re: YTSEJAM digest 552 Message-ID: Jones asked: >>>What do you think the odds are that fans will be able to stay afterwards and meet the guys in the band? This is gonna sound blindingly obvious, but is "Voices" is really about what *I* think it's about (which would be a person doubting his/her faith in popular religions), the lines "Sex is death/Death is Sex/Says it right here on my crucifix," might simply mean that the relgion(s) in question have put a lot of emphasis on sex (esp. sex other than for the express purpose of having a child) as being *very bad*. I took the line at face value. No reading-in necessary. It's a cynical line, that's the only real twist...he's "reading" the unwritten rules of his faith from his religious icon. Mark D. Message-ID: Hey, guys, this is my first post here; I figured it was about time to put my $0.02 in! By the way, I saw DT with Marillion in '89 (in NYC) and it was incredible. Most of the crowd really didn't like them; I had never even heard of them but was completely blown away. (just an aside) Is anyone else really sick of not hearing John Myung at all on DT albums? I thought he was neglected on I&W, but this is ridiculous. You can never hear him, and when you do, it's this really wishy-washy bass sound, with none of the punch of the bass sound on WDaDU (which wasn't great either) I just yearn to have a guitar solo with a bass sound behind it like Geddy Lee's circa MP or Signals-now that would be cool. It doesn't make sense that a band where musicianship is so important would let a amember be neglected like that. Personally, my faves (in no order) are: The Mirror (I love the SDV bit) AMBI (I consider it one tune) Scarred CiaW , though this list will certainly change. I love SDV, but I think the samples are too long and really slow the song down rather than add to it. Does anyone else think it reminds them of Silent Lucidity? I think it totally does (especially the samples, like the middle section of SL). I also think it could be a surprise hit like SL (especially if they edited the samples. The E-Bowed guitar melody makes me weep instantly (is it in D-minor :) ?) Well, if you're at the NYC show, see ya there. (A brief non-DT aside-if you like great guitar playing, you should check out Michael Hedges at the Bottom Line on 11/5 (or 11/6, if you are foolish enough to miss theFW show!)
