It seems like we are getting alot of messages requesting specific dates and I too would like to know the information for my area (Cincinnati). But rather than flood the mail stream with all of these seperate messages, it makes sense for someone to just send all of the info at one time. Also, on another DT related topic, I would like to know if anyone has information on the possibility of Awake entering the BMG channel of distribution. I bought I&W through BMG and if it means waiting a couple of months for Awake to save four or five bucks, I will do it. The more I save, the more cd's I can buy and there is too many good cd's coming out in the next couple of months to sacrifice missing one. Another thing is, those of > you on the IRC session heard that they WON'T be playing the Killing Hand > live... > The reason that they won't play SDV live is not b/c they can't musically. The reason is that SDV, in all senses, is Kevin's song. He wrote it and it is a very personal song. Just listen to the way that James is singing. James sings in the exact tones and way that Kevin sung it on his origional demo of the song. Kevin basically played SDV for the band and was, from what I hear and believe, quite shocked that the rest of the band liked the song and wanted to record it for Awake. This is why they won't play it live. As far as Killing Hand, I believe the reason why they said that they will not play it is b/c they are going to try to only play stuff from WDADU that was not played on the I&W tour(s). That means probably only Light Fuse... and The Ones Who Help... We all already have heard the Killing Hand live, and it is one of the songs that was included on LaTM. I am more looking forward to hearing (and hopefully recording) LF&GA and TOWHTSTS, as well as hopefully Learning To Live, Metropolis and whatever they do from I&W. (I'd really love to see Afterlife and OAMOT, but I doubt it.) > ------------------------------ > > Topic No. 23 > > From: hartman larry > Subject: Kevin rejoining DT > > Has anyone else ever given any thought to the possiblity of Kev rejoining > the band? I don't think that we will ever see Kevin back w/ DT, even just as a guess keyboard player. DT really is the first band that I really, really liked and admired for their musical talent as well as just liking their music. Obviously, alot of us are fanatics (I'll be the first to admit that I am, if you couldn't guess :) It really is difficult to understand why all of this happened. Also, just remember, we are only the fans. Just imagine what it must feel like for the band. It seems, from what I have heard, that the rest of the guys, especially Mike P, really are having a tough time also... Message-ID: Hello all you Ytsejammers! Today just before 6 PM I visited a record store specialized in Metal in Stockholm, Sweden, hoping that they would have the Awake CD. Walking into that store right behind me was a guy with a package. Guess what was in that package... Yes, it was the Awake CD! I bought it right away, along with about 10 other DT'ers who were standing there waiting for it. So now I have it, though I haven't had the time to listen to it yet as I'm in school now. But I would like to tell you something about the cover and also say something about the booklet. Well, first here's all the songs: * 6.00 (5.31) - Music: Dream Theater, Lyrics: Kevin Moore * Caught in a web (5.28) - M: Dream Theater, L: James LaBrie & John Petrucci * Innocense faded (5.43) - M: Dream Theater, L: John Petrucci - A mind beside itself: * Erotomania (6.45) - M: Dream Theater * Voices (9.53) - M: Dream Theater, L: John Petrucci * The silent man (3.48) - M: John Petrucci, L: John Petrucci * The mirror (6.45) - M: Dream Theater, L: Mike Portnoy * Lie (6.34) - M: Dream Theater, L: Kevin Moore * Lifting shadows off a dream (6.05) - M: Dream Theater, L: John Myung * Scarred (11.00) - M: Dream Theater, L: John Petrucci * Space dye vest (7.29) - M: Kevin Moore, L: Kevin Moore In the booklet there are no indications of who the other singer is on some of the songs (if it's not LaBrie) that's been discussed on the list. The only one who's listed as singing vocals ("voices") is LaBrie. Inside are all the lyrics along with the usual sleeve notes and some photos. There are 5 individual black/white pics, one group pic (color) and one big really cool color photo of the band jamming in the studio! The color pics are kinda "blueish". About the cover: The back has a black/white pic inserted into some kind of metal thing that's lying on the ground, I think (it's hard to tell what it is). The front has the DT "logo" in yellow on the top with Awake beneath it in white. The front cover is made up of many different things, possibly referring to the lyrics as has also been discussed on the list. Among other things the cover features the Majesty logo, a mirror with a face, a spider in a web, a clock, a city and some kind of sculpture. The front cover also has the color tone of blue. The back cover has the color tone of yellow/orange. Well, that's about all I can say about it for now. Now I'm heading home to wrap it into my CD player and find out what it sounds like. I'll be back in a few days to give my impressions on the music. I don't find that to be a "cop out", myself. I think it shows a lot of respect for Kevin and for what that song meant to him personally. I can't imagine seeing DT play that song without him behind the keyboards. That would be hard for *me* to take, as a fan... I can't imagine how difficult it would be for *them* to deal with. SDV is kind of like Kevin's "swan song" to me and I think their decision not to play it live is a sound & thoughtful one. Maybe one of these days, we *will* get the chance to see it played live... by Kevin. :) I hope so.
