Brilliant. Also, you might want to pick up the video, Live in Tokyo...there's a great instrumental on that at the end of "To Live Forever." Mainly a guitar solo, but the other instruments are there too...Beyond that, buy some bootlegs...Dance of Eternity features A Change of Seasons, with a lot of long instrumental passages...it's an amazing song. max That's not a knife... p.s. The FAQ in the DT archives says The Dance of Eternity is "easily the best DT boot available". Is this a widely held opinion or just Michael Burstin's ? I also assume that any of the soundboard recordings are of decent quality. Any comments about that? Are there any to avoid ? I would welcome any comments, as I'd prefer to get the best I can for the price. Thanks. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Jun 94 14:36:20 EDT From: email_address_removed (Tim Howard) Subject: Re: pup? new album?Fates Warning! Try "Parallels" -- it's the only Fates Warning album I've heard (so far) and it's great. (They are working on one now though...) It's a lot like Queensryche. Then, find "No Exit" which is amazing... Anything before that has a different singer, and the lyrics are just plain stupid. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Jun 1994 19:26:46 -0700 (PDT) From: Christopher Taylor Oates Subject: Re: YTSEJAM digest 418 Just to reinforce what evberyone else has said about Fates, I have Guardian, No Exit, Perf. Is this a widely held opinion or just Michael Burstin's ? I like the following two 2CD shows I have from Dream Theater: Lords of Sound - from a radio concert in Milwaukee Dance of Eternity - this is would say the best because of the length and quality =============================================================== = "As you woke this morning and opened up your eyes = = Did you notice the tear-stains lining your face were mine" = = = = "I Dream in Infrared" Queensryche = =============================================================== = email_address_removed Terry Helmts = =============================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 Jun 1994 00:13:50 -0500 (EDT) From: hartman larry Subject: previous issue stuff. I just wish that it was in a big jewel box to keep it in good shape. Here is what I'm gonna do. I bought one of those two disc in one jewel box things (like what DoE comes in). I'll put the discs in there and then take the packaging and stuff to a color copier and print up copies of the set list from the back and put it in the inside of the box and then put a nice "DREAM THEATER" from the cover on the front of the CD. It'll be my own little "portable" Lost in the Sky. When I listened, I wanted to here the new stuff. I wanted to check out Only a Matter of Time with the "new" ending instumental section. When I 1st heard it, I thought that it sounded familiar, maybe from one of the Majesty Demos. Then later, when I listened to the whole disc, I heard that at the end of the track before it (before OaMoT starts), James says something like "We're gonna go back to 1989 and do something from When Dream and Day Unite, and after that we are gonna go back a little farther". This also makes me think he was speaking of the Majesty demos. I guess I'll have to pull them out and listen to them some more and see if I can find the spot. Also , does anyone know which of the Majesty demos supposedly became the latter end of Change of Seasons? I find the sound on LitS to be a little mid-rangy, especially the guitars. The drums sound great. Sometimes James sounds dry, like there are no effects on him at all. I had heard my friends Dance of Eternity a few times and thought it was great, I expected LitS to be better. I guess it has its good parts and bad. I love Eve. It sounds great. I wonder how these bootleg people can make the kind of mistakes that they do? Like putting a pic of John M. where John P. should be, or in some cases, mislabeling songs. To go to all of the trouble to put together such a great CD, you would think that the person would be a big DT fan and know what they were talking about, or at least get it checked out by a true DT fan. I also picked up Fates Warnings - Perfect Symetry this evening. I have Parralels and No Exit. This one sounds pretty good so far. The one that Kevin plays one is already my favorite. You could probably tell someone that it was Dt and they would believe you, except for the vocals I guess. Kevin and his keys just add so much to the music, more than a two guitars could do, ie - Fates or Qryche or even Cynic. BTW - Cynic is really cool. What other bands are like them? Welp I'll get going now. I just wanted to type some and keep my phone busy because I don't want my woman to be able to call me. She was supposed to call me an hour ago but her line is still busy, she is talking to her other "guy friend". Screw her.... ************************************************************************** * Jason Hartman "I am the Killing Hand!" email_address_removed * * * * You're fighting the weight of the world, * * and no one can save you this time. * * Close your eyes - you can find all you need in your mind. * * * * "Take the Time" - Dream Theater * ************************************************************************** ------------------------------ End of Digest ************************
