Each dash represents one 32nd note. I know some of the time sigs, rhythms, notes etc are probably wrong, but i am doing this from my head at work, so bear with it. Some of it is a wild ass guess, when i was trying to figure it out, and has become the way i play it, most of it at least fits, anyway. i will try to post more later this week...have fun!!! 7/4 -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- 8-7-5-----------5-4-2----------------------------------- --------------------------------5-4-2-----------2-0----- ----------------------------------------------------3--- 7/4 -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------2-------2---0--- ----------------4-------5-------4----------------------- 2---2-2-5---2-2-----2-2-----2-2-----0------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- ----------------4-------5-------0-0-0---5---0---7\------ 2---2-2-5---2-2-----2-2-----2--------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------2-------2---0--- ----------------4-------5-------4----------------------- 2---2-2-5---2-2-----2-2-----2-2-----0------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- 4/4 -------------------------------- -------------------------------- -------------------------------- ----------------4-------5------- 2---2-2-5---2-2-----2-2--------- -------------------------------- 7/4 (??) -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- -----------------11-9----------------------------------- --12---11-9----9------12-11-9-11-9---------------------- 9----9------12---------------------12------11----------- -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------2-------2---0--- ----------------4-------5-------4----------------------- 2---2-2-5---2-2-----2-2-----2-2-----0------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- ----------------4-------5-------0-0-2---5---0---7\------ 2---2-2-5---2-2-----2-2-----2--------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------2-------2---0--- ----------------4-------5-------4----------------------- 2---2-2-5---2-2-----2-2-----2-2-----0------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- ----------------4-------5-------0-0-5---7---0---9\------ 2---2-2-5---2-2-----2-2-----2--------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- This next part I didn't feel like typing the whole thing, as it repeats. La Brie's voice is right up there. I put it just above Lee and Geoff Tate. Moore has no peer on the keys. And Petrucci is really scaring Steve Vai and Joe Satriani these days... As much as I admire Portnoy as a drummer... listening to ONE of Neil Peart's solos from any time after 1976 or so, Portnoy's begins to seem uninspired and bland. And I think Portnoy's solo is great! It's just that Neil Peart's THAT GOOD. His solos have musical quality. The one he did for this year's tour is simply the best drum work ever put to tape. Neil even did a 15-minute drum solo called "The Pieces of Eight" a few years back for Modern Drummer, and it's the most musical drumming, and skillful, that I've heard in any format. I encourage anyone who likes DT a lot to, if they have not already... listen to a good dose of Rush. Dream Theater is such a great band IMHO because they pick up the "other possible tangent" of Rush from about 1980. Rush had a choice to follow one of two musical paths; one of tight, concise music trying to express a lot with a little, and the one they had been doing before, of expressing things as carefully as possible even at the expense of structure and style. DT took the second path. I think songs such as Take the Time and Learning to Live are examples of where proper song structure COULD HAVE been far better, for what they were expressing. However it does not make those songs any less "real". They are still genuine and full of musical power. The similarities, finally, between DT and Rush blow my mind. Rush, also, broke wide open on their second album, and it had eight songs, including two particularly long thematic songs. The progression similarity between the bands really impresses me... Long live Rush and DT!!! - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - Mike/email_address_removed/Snow Dog of Prismatic Force Designs/sydest.com Likely or not, it's a dream that we keep, and at odds with our senses we'll climb.
