I guess you have to play the drums.. Though, as far as they go, Mike's was pretty neat with all those samples... When the played here, my brother and I went and bought our shirts, hats, drinks, and found another place to stand, during the drum solo... ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Dec 1993 11:20:46 -0500 (EST) From: hartman larry Subject: drum solos I usually like drum solos, ones that are well done that is. I enjoy a good Neil Peart solo and I can really go for Dave Weckl solos! Most of you probably don't know who he is, he is just about the best jazz-fusion drummer out there. Mike Portnoy is an incredible drummer when it comes to play with the band and in odd time signatures, but you are correct, HE CAN'T SOLO WORTH A SHIT! Sorry Mike, but it had no flow to it. I would really bet that he was making it up and never played it the same way twice. If you gonna play once and make up a solo, that is cool, but he probably does it everynight and it just gets worse and worse. It seemed like he would just finish doing one thing and then think "Hmmm... What other cool thing could I do?...Oh yeah!" rata atatararaatatarraratatataratatat - you get the point. It didn't have anyway near the flowing-ness of a Neil Peart solo or the style of a Dave Weckl solo. I would have thought that it would have been better based upon his regular playing style and talent. I'm sure he will get better at it with time. Keep rockin' guys! Although I do enjoy the drum solo. But we're all entitled to our own opinions :) I thought the solo was very good, and especially the way he got the crowd into it (well, they were making noise during it at least :) Chris ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Dec 1993 11:57:54 -0500 From: Martin A Hennemann Subject: Re: Image Ok, now let's make this image ibm compat :) I can't view mac pics :( Chris ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Dec 1993 01:25:10 -0800 (PST) From: Jason Hough Subject: Re: Posting Pictures/video PLEASE PLEASE do not post the images to the entire list!!!!! However taking Rush's Neil Peart for an example, his Rhythm Method drum solo changes every year, and gets longer, more intricate, better. Plus, he varies it incredibly within the same tours; my bootlegs are evidence of this. This is how drum solos must be to retain excitement :) Mike ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Dec 93 11:40:51 MST From: Michael Bahr Subject: Re: Posting Pictures/video > > Well, I made some DT scans from video last night, and they look okay. > Actually, they lack some things to be desired, because the program I'm > writing was in-between development steps (I wrote something which introduced > a bug and hadn't fixed it yet) so I had to use the software that came with > the video board.
